Right now he's a Congressman from TX http://www.house.gov/paul/
He just announced a run for the Prez in 2008.

He is the kind of Dark Horse candidate that scares the crap out of both the repubs and dems...

As this grows, you will hear all sorts of bad, bad things about a man like this. The MSM and power brokers of the world will pull out all stops to keep control of Paul. Remember this post and come back here to check his own words on just about every topic that concerns all of us.

I want every one of you to follow at least one link below on a topic that interests you. I plan on organizing campaign funding and rallies in my area. Any of you ever gripe about the .gov, this is your chance to see EVERYTHING we despise tossed aside. I am SO excited about this. PLEASE, if you don't know about Ron Paul, read something about him as this may come down to a write in ballot.

</td></tr></tbody></table> </td></tr> </tbody></table> enjoys a national reputation as the premier advocate for liberty in politics today.

Dr. Paul is the leading spokesman in Washington for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency. He is known among both his colleagues in Congress and his constituents for his consistent voting record in the House of Representatives: Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill.

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s.

He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies! He and Carol, who reside in Surfside Beach, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have seventeen grandchildren.

While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul's limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. He served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve's inflationary measures. He also was a key member of the Gold Commission, advocating a return to a gold standard for our currency. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending, and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.

Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th Congressional district of Texas. He serves on the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, and the International Relations committee. On the Financial Services Committee, Rep. Paul serves as the vice-chairman of the Oversight and Investigations subcommittee. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.

Dr. Paul is the author of several books, including Challenge to Liberty; The Case for Gold; and A Republic, If You Can Keep It. He has been a distinguished counselor to the Ludwig von Mises Institute, and is widely quoted by scholars and writers in the fields of monetary policy, banking, and political economy. He has received many awards and honors during his career in Congress, from organizations such as the National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, the Council for a Competitive Economy, Young Americans for Freedom, and countless others.

Dr. Paul's consistent voting record prompted one Congressman to comment that "Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers' ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are." Another Congresswoman added that "There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few."

While it looks like he mightbe a good fit I definatly dont see him standing a chance. If he runs as a Republican then based simply on the fact Bush has screwed up in so many ways its almost guaranteed that a Rep wont pull off a win. Add to that the fact that he is also from the home state of Bush and you add even more reason (however unfounded) for people to think he would screw us the same way and the chances get even slimer.

If he were to run third party or independent then he would be almost guaranteed to be shown by the mediain the same light of insanity that the did for Perott (sp?) and so overcomeing the Democrats would be even less likely with Rs takeing their share of the vote, a third party getting their share, then the Dems getting all of their normal votes (includeing the dead and the pets) as well as the majority of those running away in horror from voteing for a precieved continuation of Bush.

I TRUELY hope I am wrong, but I really see 08 as being a free ride win for the Dems with our ONLY chance of avoiding it being if they run Hillary and enouph folks are not ready for a female president combined with enouph folks disdane for that family based on her and her husband and enouph folks disdane for the Dems, then MAYBE.

Im NOT looking forward to '08+4.

I scanned over some of his articles, I'm glad their mostly short.

    Questions:

    1) Does he really stand a chance?

    2) Will he be allowed in office by tptb?

From what he said, I would be very tempted to vote for the first time in over a dozen years.

I would vote for him. I find that his beliefs are very well founded and he could turn this whole mess around. If he believes so highly then he should feel that it is his obligation to run. Remember our forefathers didn't run from corruption. They faced it head on and abolished it where they could. Maybe he can make up a new party instead of running Rep, Dem, or other. He could be the American Republic Party or something like that.

Then again, (the paranoid me speaking) what if he's the anti-christ? Would make sense that he speaks a good game and it all looks great though after he's in office it becomes much worse. Man I need to get out more. Haha.

Well I guess it's just a matter of electing him because the others are all idiots. At this point I think anything is better than the current option. Then again by '08, we may not have elections. Sounds like someone is busy building a dictatorship.

These days, they also need to raise heart-stopping amounts of money.
The next White House race is certain to break every spending record. And despite various attempts to curb the cash orgy that presidential politics has become, it will likely also spell the end of publicly financed campaigns.
"The 2008 race will be the longest and most expensive election in American history," warned Federal Election Commissioner Michael Toner. "We're heading into the first $1 billion election."
Things have gotten so out of hand that Toner estimated a prospective candidate needs to raise $100 million by the end of this year just to be "taken seriously."
"Call it a $100 million entry fee," he said.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney raised $6.5 million in a single day last week and said he hoped his GOP presidential rivals took note.
"I think it's going to be a strong message to [Arizona Sen. John] McCain as well as [ex-New York Mayor Rudy] Giuliani," said Romney fund-raiser Tom Tellefsen. "It's going to be a strong message to those that are considering or haven't really yet laid the groundwork that maybe they should have."
Democrats like Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Virginia Gov. Mark Warner have already dropped out, scared off by the financial chops of glitzier candidates.
Toner figures the Democratic and the Republican nominees will have to spend $500 million each by Election Day - double what they did in the record-smashing election of 2004.
In that campaign, John Kerry and George Bush both declined to take public financing in the primary campaign, reckoning they could raise far more money than the $45 million they would have received by "opting in" to the federal system.
Indeed, Kerry raised $234 million for the primary and Bush $269 million, according to FEC records.
Both candidates decided to take the government's $75 million for the general election.
But analysts expect neither will in 2008, foreseeing an ignominious end to the public financing system set up after Watergate, intended to purge politics of fat cat influence and level the playing field for all candidates.
Bush was the first major candidate to opt out of the system in the 2000 primaries, and the then-staggering $100 million he took in convinced other candidates they couldn't afford to abide by any cash restrictions.
"It's an ever-escalating arms race," said Mary Boyle of Common Cause, a group that backs public financing. "The system is broken. Until you cut the dependence between people who are running for office and the special interests who are raising money for them, you are going to have public policy that favors the special interests."
Several factors are driving the dramatic dash for dollars: Well-known, high-profile candidates like McCain, Giuliani, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) firing up donors.
A highly polarized and interested electorate.
A campaign starting nearly a year early.
A front-loaded primary calendar, which means far less time for glad-handing and speeches and more emphasis on pricey TV ads.
Higher contribution limits, which ironically were supposed to help curb the money frenzy. "We're going to see an unprecedented fund-raising sprint in the next six months," Toner said.

Well there go the elections. Now it's a game show. 'Who Wants to Be President'. Sad state of affairs. And the coporations are not going to sit idly by while their puppet, I mean candidate gets wasted for not raising enough money. No longer does the people's voice mean anything. It's a racket where he who has the gold gets elected and makes the rules.

That has to amount to the 1% CT I spoke of earlier.

FWIW, Fred was mentioned as a possible on Meet The Press last Sunday. Concensus is he won't run (probably can't raise enough money to run) but if he did, he'd have about a 3:1 chances against for the GOP nomination. I can't tell who's the front runner for the Republican nomination, too many to count.

    The Republican Presidential Debate

    Debate

"There is no such thing as a power of inherent sovereignty
in the government of the [federal] United States...
In this country sovereignty resides in the people, and Congress can exercise
no power which they [the sovereign people] have not, by their Constitution entrusted to it: All else is withheld."

    Abstract

The Republican primary debate for President was held on May 3, 2007. MSNBC consented to be the host of the event. No greater undertaking can be had than the pursuit of liberty and justice engendered by the election of the President of the United States of America.

Together, the President, Congress, and the Judiciary, provide the structure known as government. As such, they represent the will of the people, the fabric of society. The government exists for the sole purpose of protecting the people's unalienable rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

MSNBC provided a great service by allowing the people to see and hear the candidates up close and personable: what they stand for, what policies they believe in, what philosophy they are guided by.

    The Cast

Nine men took to the stage, to bask in the light of the public forum, revealing themselves to the nation - to the people they wished to represent, to those who alone have the sovereign power to say yeah or nay - We the People.

    Total Speaking Time in Seconds

On MSNBC's website that covers the debate (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/1829690), there is a picture of each candidate with a short one line clip, providing a glimpse into the man behind the face. They are as follows:

    *

Hunter - need to move quickly on Iraq
    *

Thompson - says he is the reliable conservative
    *

Tancredo - speaks about Reagan, beliefs
    *

Romney - says bin Laden will pay
    *

Paul - explains the role of government
    *

Huckabee - would have fired Rumsfeld before the election
    *

    Giuliani - stresses bi-partisanship
    *

Gilmore - lead against a sea of hostility
    *

Brownback - stresses building strong families
    *

McCain - says he is most prepared

Chris Matthews of Hardball notoriety monitored the debate. A better choice would have been difficult to make, as Matthews played hardball - in a softball sort of way. The nuances of the presentation and monitoring of the debate explained the political process in the same manner as did the debate, perhaps even more - in a more subdued and subtle kind of way.

    The Stage

The time allotted to each candidate, and the remarks made introducing and dismissing them, were fascinating to watch: a true master of ceremonies was orchestrating the play. All that was missing was the maestro, but perhaps he was in the audience - a watcher.

Another website (http://2008central.net/?p=656#more-656) that covered the debate, listed the total time that each candidate was allowed to literally speak. A question and answer format was used. Certain questions were allotted a longer response time then others. It was alluded to that all candidates were to receive fair and equal treatment.

    Permission

The allotment of time given to each of the candidates is most telling, but just what is it telling? First, we note that the time allotted to each individual greatly varied in length. If one was looking for equality they were searching in the wrong place.

Senator John McCain received the lion's share of the bounty - 11.5 minutes, with Romney not far behind with 9 minutes.

Giuliani had 7, and Brownback 6.33 minutes. From there it was all down hill. Three of the remaining candidates were granted 5 minutes and change, while the last three were only permitted approximately 4.5 minutes.

    Cui Bono

Why such disparity? Was this fair play or hardball? Several candidates seemed to have come packing for hardball, as if they knew the score before the game even started.

Apparently Senator McCain benefited - tapped with the seal of approval to deliver political speeches, as opposed to the limitations of direct answers to specific questions. The words my friends still rings in my ears.

Was favoritism shown for a select elite few over and above the rest, and if so - why? Was it prearranged or was it happenchance? Does anything occur by happenchance, especially in the world of politics?

    At What Cost

Perhaps this behavior is indicative of the times - a comment upon the neocon plutocracy we have allowed to take root, spreading its limbs over the face of the land, offering shade to those who accept its protection - no matter what the cost: even if freedoms are part of the toll.

    Clues

A quick glance at the one line summations of each candidate provides further clues. McCain claimed to be the most prepared, and thus he so appeared. The question is - prepared for what? Iraq, Iran, and then what - all other imagined threats to the greatest military power ever to walk the face of the earth? I think not.

Hunter, Romney, and Gilmore espoused the same ideal - divide and conquer was the call of the day. War - not peace had its say. From chaos comes order was part of the mix. Why fire Rumsfeld if such is the way? Perhaps he was a bit too enthusiastic and drew unwanted attention; better to come dressed as sheep seemed to be the motto of the day.

At least Tancredo and Brownback provided moral fiber to the tone of the debate, while Giuliani was hell bent on reciting the litany of his well honed record. Strike up the band to inspire others to pay - the costs of imperialism and occupation are meant to stay.

    A Beacon

While limited to just four minutes and forty-six seconds, Congressman Ron Paul had a lot to say, and he performed admirably well considering the debilitating circumstances imposed by the controllers.

Ron Paul's constitutional grounding permeated all his answers, which espoused a different message compared to his colleagues with whom he shared the stage. His message was simple yet sage: follow the Constitution and one would not be led astray, falling by the wayside - unable to pay.

    The Message

Protect the homeland without seeking the conquest of the world, as ordained and sanctioned by the Supreme Law of the Land. Protect the freedoms of the sovereign people, who granted limited powers to the government for just such a cause - freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Why spend billions of dollars trying to police the world, while many are still starving here at home? Are we really trying to force democracy on others, or enable global plutocracy to grow stronger by the day? Take our sons and daughters out of harms way, and into the loving arms of ones held dear - families and friends who make it all worthwhile.

Without paying to feed the dogs of war, much less credit and debt would need to be created and then discharged. Ron Paul spoke of the purpose of government as his guiding light, which makes perfect sense given our plight. Is there an enemy out there, or was Sun Tzu right when he stated he had meant the enemy, and he was I. Remember well - the first casualty of war is truth.

War is a business of the merchants of death - they who ply their trade to rule the world. Listen not to their false ways; follow thy heart in all it has to say. Make peace not war; intervene not in the affairs of others - clean up one's own house before all else.

    Heartfelt

Congressman Ron Paul cast an aura of truth and honesty that came through loud and clear in the minimal time he was permitted to speak. Imagine what we would hear if he was afforded equal time and exposure by the mainstream media.

The links below lead to MSNBC's 2008 Primary Debate website, as well as to a few others that have video's of Congressman Ron Paul and his beliefs that emphasize following the mandates of the Constitution of the United States.

You will be surprised at the message you hear, a message of truth - that only Congress can declare war; that freedoms are being forsaken and usurped by those whose sole constitutional purpose is to honor and protect those very same freedoms and liberties.

And lastly you will hear about Honest Money - the hard currency of Gold & Silver Coin mandated by the Constitution of the United States. Why is it not adhered to if it is the Supreme Law of the Land?

If you care about the future of our nation, and the future of your children and their children you will leave behind - take a few minutes to listen to the videos. It may be one of the best investments of your time you ever make.

"The sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the liberty of action of any of their number, is self-protection.

That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant.

He cannot rightfully be compelled to do or forbear because it will be better for him to do so, because it will make him happier, because, in the opinion of others, to do so would be wise, or even right...

The only part of the conduct of anyone, for which he is amenable to society, is that which concerns others. In the part which merely concerns himself, his independence is, of right, absolute. Over himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign." [John Stuart Mill]

Congressman Ron Paul’s donations have moved up - not by hundreds of thousands - but by millions as a result of his debate performances and groundswell of support on the Internet and in New Hampshire, observers close to the campaign say.

The move is especially impressive since as of March 31, 2007, he had perhaps $500,000 on hand (see candidate estimates below).

FMNN had previously reported – after the GOP presidential debate in South Carolina - that candidate Ron Paul’s (R-Tex) donations, large and small, had nearly doubled.

    http://www.freemarketnews.com/WorldNews.asp?nid=42336

Now observers close to the campaign are revealing – with some astonishment – that donations to the campaign in recent weeks have pushed the total up to perhaps $4 or $5 million.

“That’s a huge number at this stage,” says one observer. “That starts to put him in a position where he can compete – state by state, anyway – with the major candidates.”

And this source added, “Of course, it’s hard to tell because the numbers keep changing – and thus nobody at the campaign has a firm count, at least not hour to hour. But the numbers are big. It’s definitely over three, probably over four, and if it hasn’t hit five yet, it will soon.”

At this rate, say observers, Ron Paul could have something like $10 million in his coffers inside of several months, and the total could keep growing – so long as he continues to hit on themes that Americans support – how to return the country to a true, small government, constitutional republic and how to end the war in Iraq.

To be sure such amounts are somewhat speculative. But to put the amount of money Ron Paul is said to have raised recently in perspective, here are the figures of cash on hand for GOP candidates as of March 31, 2007:

    http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/money/gop.html

    Sam Brownback
    cash-on-hand: $806,626

    Jim Gilmore
    cash-on-hand: $90,107

    Rudy Giuliani
    cash-on-hand: $11,949,735

    Mike Huckabee
    cash-on-hand: $373,918

    Duncan Hunter
    cash-on-hand: $272,552

    John McCain
    cash-on-hand: $5,180,799

    Ron Paul
    cash-on-hand: $524,919

    Mitt Romney
    cash-on-hand: $11,863,653

    Tom Tancredo
    cash-on-hand: $575,078

    Tommy Thompson
    cash-on-hand: $139,723
