As The USA is in a real inflationary period inspite of what the Government tells us.

For most people expenses are rising quite a bit faster than their income.

So I started this thred because Im curious what sort of things has everyone quit buying, and what did you replace it with.

Ill start with something simple........Texas toast from Wallyworld. Last time I went to buy it it was up to 2.40$, it used to be 1.30$. I replaced it with cornbred which I can make a batch for .50 to .60$

Haven't quit so much as changed where I get certain items. As an example, 100 count boxes of Lipton Teabags has gone up to $5.49 so I get them at BJ's Warehouse at $3/9.99. I time my trips to BJ's for when I am in that town meeting a client and then stock up. Sometimes I will buy as many as 10 three packs. I do the same for things like canned tuna, beans, etc.

Its not that I quit buying any thing. I just don't buy it when its not on sale, preferably with a coupon in hand that they'll double!!!

    Same here...

I go to town once a week, just to purchase the Weekly Specials, which are not as common as they once were. The better-half and I have always enjoyed our Sunday drives. You know the ones where you go down a road you have never been down before. Well, those are not as frequent as they use to be as gas nears $4.00 here in south Georgia. The old ford sits in the yard much more these days and the old Geo Metro gets used more and more. So it can be safely said that Ceteris paribus ,we are limiting our budget more than we are going to switching to inferior goods.

Aint nothing wrong with Evan me and him are close friends and have been for a long time....(lol)

We have started changing alot of brands and if you research them a little they are made by name brand companies just with a different lable. The one thing which makes me happy is we have switched from the box from alot of box stuff like pizza, ravioli and other to home made. you can buy the stuff to make 3 for the price you pay for 1

We eat out less, make trips with two/three goals instead of just running into town for a loaf of bread, shop a bit more economically, and freeze/can much more. Had a delicious peach cobler last week from our canned goods. Expanding our orchard/vineyard/raised beds so we don't have to buy much.

We hold back and wait for the middle of the month sales the stores around here wait until after the rush of the first when welfare checks come out. Then they do the big sales we lucked up last week and found tuna two for a dollar and got $30.00 / 60cans

We've all but stopped eating out - maybe once or twice a month. It's about the cost as well as the poor quality of food.

I can do much more for my wife and daughter with $50 at the local butcher than I can at the local lunch or breakfast joint.

In the past, we bought Prego spaghetti sauce in big jars. Now, I get Classico at Sam's. I don't think it tastes as good and there is only a negligible cost difference. The main reason for the change is that Classico jars are a type of Mason jar.

While you shouldn't can with these (check Classico's website), you can store other things in them as Mason jar lids (sans seal ring) fit. We eat spaghetti about once a week (kid's favorite), so I figure why not reuse the jars rather than throwing them away. This irks my wife who would prefer to throw everything away. She will thank me one day...and that's if I decide to share my preps with her. She will have to eat copious amounts of crow first. :D

I wouldn't buy peanut-butter now. I'm glad I stocked up a few months ago so I have plenty, but, if I didn't have it, I wouldn't buy it. I think peanut-butter is probably my favorite food too. I'm 40 years old and probably eat a PB&J twice a week if not more.

I've quit buying juice. I only drink water now. Sometimes Publix has a 2 for 1 deal, then I'll buy it, but I give it to the kids (after I water it down a bit...grape juice is some thick stuff).

As a matter of fact, anytime Publix has a 2 for 1 deal on ANY food we eat, I practically take them all. There is a shelf in my garage that is rapidly filling up with 2/1 pasta.

We used to buy the small containers of yogurt. Now, we get a big tub and mix fruit with it (mainly for the kids).

My friends who think of me as a fiscally conservative Yankee will laugh but I water down liquid dishwashing soap. When I get a new bottle, I pour half in the old bottle and add water to the top. Since I live alone, I don't have copious quantities of dishes to wash, usually just a couple to rinse off so I soap up my cloth with the watered down soap, wash the plate and rinse. May sound like a little thing but you'd be surprised at how much liquid soap you use, even with only one person

Sales, sales, sales. I also buy store brand everything. Buy online with amazon using my prime account which has paid for itself.. buy in bulk and ask neighbors if they want stuff too. Prime saves on shipping, and I don't spend a dime in gas.

used to eat out a handful of times each month.. haven't done that in about 4 months now.
    -Got rid of netflix..
-changed to a cheaper FiOS plan

-paid off one CC to offset increase in food. Long term savings there.
-work extra hours and a small, small side job (like 2 hours a month) for a bit of extra cash.

I stopped going to the movie theaters literally a couple decades ago - the cost even then was ridiculous.
The few places me and a buddy eat out at are out of town and cheap, but still good food - a good Waffle House and a certain little gas station with mini-diner.
I buy less expensive food items in bulk, cook it in a big pot and then freeze for several meals.
I do buy better grade and more expensive shirts at Tractor Supply, but they last years longer than WallyMart crap - cost savings over time.
I combine shopping into my evening commute - the main stores are along the way. Gas stations too.

I stopped buying our dishwasher detergent and Landry detergent. We now make our own. Saves $50/month. Also i carpool to work when i can, got ride of the snowmobile as i got 6 miles per gallon when there was snow to ride it. Mostly buy stuff on sale and tons of it. We use to devour bacon now we only eat 1-2lbs per month as it's gone up $1.50/lb and is never one sale.

    Homemade Laundry Soap
1/3 bar Fels Naptha or other type of soap, as listed above
    ½ cup washing soda
    ½ cup borax powder
~You will also need a small bucket, about 2 gallon size~

If you want your soap to have some sort of scent you can scent this with ½ to 1 oz. of essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice

I get whisk air freshener oil and sent my soap with that. It runs around $4 for 3onzes (these are the refillable type that go in the wall plugin's.

I think ammo prices are still less than they were when the Kenyan first got elected...and that's even if you could find what you were looking for.

I am getting kill on it right now Guit_Fishn. I am a newbie to fireamrs (the last 2-3 years) and feel like I cannot afford to keep Ammo in stock outside of .22lr.

I am almost to the point of starting to reload as I would rather be shotting 400 rounds of .223 a month and not 40. Same goes with my .45ACP that I Might throw 20-30 down rage if I am lucky.

Sad state of affairs if you ask me.

We must have cheaped out a long time ago....been making our own canned sauce for years. When I kill a beef, we take a bunch of the fresh hamburger, and make sauce w/meat, and chili. Also beef stew.

Use home grown tomatoes for the base stock, and other veggies as needed. About the only thing we buy are the spices, and kidney beans for the chili. Haven't found it economical to raise them, yet.

I've had the pleasure of sampling Andy's sauce and his chili.
Better than anything I'd ever purchased.

I believe this requires you to post your recipe Andy :D ...it would be great to have homemade spaghetti sauce from the raw tomato up.
