REVENGE THREAT IN POST SHTF SCENERO

Here's something I've been giving some thought to:

Let's assume that there is a widespread SHTF scenario in which it seems like there will be a prolonged period of lawlessness. There have been discussions on here about people looting, the role of gangs, people moving from urban areas to the rural areas, etc.

    But what about revenge killings?

When the Balkans collapsed into violence in the 1990s, I heard that a lot of the initial violence was revenge killings. Obviously, there was a whole history of blood-feuds there, but it made me start to think about it.

Then, there was a situation in a small town where I grew up. A guy became aware that he was going to be arrested in the next several days for a statutory rape case that would put him away for a long time. So he shot and killed his neighbor and when the police interrogated him he said, "That guy was the biggest pain in my butt, so thought I'd finish him off while I could."

Everyone has enemies, minor, major, etc.

Has anyone given thought to whether they might be the victim of revenge killings in a post-SHTF scenario? A neighbor who hates you, ex-employee you fired, ex-husband, etc.?

I don't think I have anyone after me, but of course, there could be someone out there simmering with rage who I slighted some time ago that is ready to pop.

    Just something to think about...

I stole the entire thing above from another site. I concur that it is something we need to think about and be aware of. My apologies for the plagiarism.

Interesting angle. I would think that most people would be too absorbed in their own survival to worry about taking revenge on someone. In the initial phases anyway.
Another reason to get away from the urban environments and surround yourself with people you trust.

    I dislike the term "hate"...
    It's so impersonal.

I prefer the saying: "to terminate with extreme prejudice"!
    It's like "blackmail-vs-extortion....."
A rose is still a rose by any other name, but a thorn will always be a NASTY!

I can see a few people going after those they may blame for the loss of their jobs, their homes, their health care, etc....
    It is probably inevitable.....
Hatred can run deep and long ....and another straw on the camels back may cause a few to slide over the edge and become quite homicidal first, then suicidal secondary.

Humans, can't live with them, can't shoot them!
"Beam me up Snotty, there is no intelligent life on this planet"!

If or when a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, you can pretty well sum up the first few days, total chaos fueld by the basic human instinct to survive. It will be during thoses first few days that will see the average "Jane" and "John" Doe's that will let there true colors shine forth. Those colors will definitely not be pretty.

Even though certain groups and individuals will use the excusses of basic ethno centrisims to raid, rape, murder and pilliage. It will come down to the simple fact that most of humanity has not truely evolved and has just buried their violent tendancies very deep inside themselves. (How many mild mannered people have you seen turn into complete monsters while under the influence of alcohol?).

If the dieoff happens in my lifetime, I will simply use whatever force necesssary to protect myself. As for the monsters that will show themseles for what they are, I will simply sit back(hide) and watch them devour each other and themselves. No since in wasteing ammo on them.

Revenge attacks/killings happen daily in gangland USA.

IMHO: I don't see it as a SHTF problem. Someone might be mad at me for having the last water bottle, but not for laying them off a few years ago.

The Golden Rule is one that I live by. I'm not worried at all about revenge from others. :)

The very few that ever "fired" me, I shook hands with and thanked them profusely!
It was good to be out of their rat race!
I even took one boss to lunch following a termination!
I was so happy it made him furious!
    Revenge is best served cold!

I've fired a couple here and there, and been fired and laid off. All in the course of business, not personal situations, no ill will on either side. However, I've had some neighbors that could be a bit peeved, and at least two would want to "discuss" the situation. The thing is, I'm long gone from there. Ikean, you might like your remote location tied down sooner than later.

My feelings are, as the whole enchalada goes into the toilet in the near future, crime WILL run rampant.
First, as the Welfare checks stop coming, a certain segment of 'society' who have been raised to consider 'entitlements' as their due, will loot and riot to take what they see as 'theirs'. As we saw in sunny L.A. during the Rodney King fiasco, eventually shop and business owners WILL resort to armed defense.
Next, as the skeleton-crew police force is co-opted into defending the city's Elite, there will be NO LEO presence on the street. Many 'disenfranchised' will loot and pillage. Gangs will seek to get vengence on other gangs, or to extend their turf. Gangwar will become a scourge in all cities. The American Southwest will become a true warzone as La Raza seeks to carry out their long-awaited take-over.
Many 'good' people, seeing their whole world crumbling, faced with the certainty of their own coming demise, may well decide to 'even the score' with whoever or whatever they feel has offended them.

Gonna be a rough time, for sure.....

I truly hope and pray my crystal ball is on the fritz.......

Your scenario is right out of the pages of one of my favorite books.
"Out of the Ashes" by William W. Johnstone. He seems to have the same crystal ball. He is at the most a prophet, or at the least a damn fine writer.
