I was told NOT to buy or to use this type of ammo in my SKS....
    What is the problem?
    Thanks!

Errr.... Dragon, I thinks someone nis pulling your leg. Black box Wolf is the better of your run of the mill Russia/Chinese surplus ammo. The polymer coating does not melt like the lacquer coating used to which led to broken case heads and a lot of stuck cases that were not easy to remove.

Also, do your have a broken case extractor for your SKS?

Yep, what RC said. Wolf got a well deserved bad rep due to the lacquer coating they used to use as a corrosion protection on the steel cases. I haven't seen the lacquer coated stuff in years. The coating now is some kind of polymer, so they say, but it won't bother your piece.

    RC/Ghrit:
Nope I have no extractor as yet....!
I was curious about the "shellac"/"lacquer" coatings I had seen before on some ammo, and wondered about it causing seizing in the chambers....
The rounds I have now are clean, seem to have barely any, if at all, coatings on them.
I Have been considering buying extractors for the SKS and M-N rifles as well....
    any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I just checked, the coating is NOT given on the boxes. However, all the mail order outlets say if it is polymer. If they don't say so, have a doubt and call first. I don't know how to tell by looking, I've never had the lacquer coated stuff. At least it gave me no troubles if I did.

Midway has extractors, haven't looked anywhere else. I don't have one in any caliber, and haven't stuck a case nor even seen one stuck since '75. You might poke thru the Handloaders Bench, there was a discussion not too long ago on removing cases from dies.

Black box is polymer coated. It's kind of gray in color. Lacquer coated stuff has a green color and, well, it looks like its coated in lacquer.

I think the idea is that lacquer can get sticky if you're really heating up the chamber. I dunno...I have fired plenty of both through SKS's and AK's and never had an issue.

As for the broken shell extractor.....you can look on ebay (unless they are cracking down on that kind of thing now too). You probably won't need it but for less than $10, it's worth having around, just in case. I got one a few months ago for about $8.

My AKs do not discriminate, however my ARs do.
