I bought some used paperbacks. One "The Fury" by William Johnstone was good, then I found "Out of the Ashes" by Johnstone. Seems this was the first in a number of "Ashes" novels set in a post WWIII America. I'm hooked, found several more of the series and trying to read them in order.

Classic doomer fiction. The first 5 or so in the series were exceptional then they trail off into mutants and UN globetrotting peacekeeping missions. I think there is about 25 in the series last I saw.

I think I actually read about 12 or 15, then when the ghost writer was obviously not even trying I started skimming, I think I just quit with 5 books to go. Yes, the first few books are very good, but when you think the series has probably dried up, stop reading and just call that the end and you'll be better off.

I enjoyed the first 5 as well.
