Been looking forward to this tv series..(some life huh...)
9 people setup in an abandoned factory /warehouse to survive with a dieoff scenario.Tonight they ran up against the classic survivalist dilemma.after somenight time harassment and securing the perimeter they get a friendly knock at the door, a gregarious(forward) group 6 people wanting to come in, the defacto leader who's more realistic/"paranoid" (pickyour word) says no but the group goes with "they're just people in trouble don't be rude", and lets this group in that's almost as large as the main group.no searching of what they carried in. they get upset when the main group won't put their lengths of pipe down andstart demanding equal accomodations.,[beat][beat]

I was struck by the comment by one of the originals "how can I turn them away when they mean no harm?" My first thought was how did this person know the uninvited second group meant no harm - because they knocked on the door in daylight instead of banging on it in the middle of the night? This should be an interesting series as it progresses.

I liked the first episode more than I thought I would. I think it will be more revealing on the psychological side of survival than the actual survival skills side.

It was an interesting episode, a bit slow, but I would imagine it's going to take a few episodes for some of the "ground work" to be laid in.

I guess we can post on here somethings we liked and somethings we disliked and just how plausible some of the stuff they do is.

I liked the water filtration system the old guy came up with. I thought it was ironic they had so many fully charged car batteries ready to use.

Did anybody notice during one of the outdoor rain scenes what appeared to be a couple of container gardens? Looked like they did the square foot gardening system. Just seemed too well laid out for the plants to be growing randomly.

I agree with MM, I think it will be more psychological rather than real survival.

they said alot of stuff would be salted in their area on the recommendations of "survival experts and authors."

group dynamics is an important issue where random strangers may haveto work together Thesecurity guy was resistant to opening up everything and the other members didn't want to appear rude! You don'want to beisolated like a "Francis":" Touch my stuff I 'll kill you!, look at me wrong, I'll kill you". Not everydbody has been exposed to survivalist thinking

I was struck by the "innocence" of amny of them. When group 2 arrived, one of the women from group 1 promptly told then about all of their resources. My paranoid nature kicks in too readily to tell much of anything to strangers.

The producers choose a good blend of ages - I'm glad this isn't another "reality" show with bikini clad blonds and muscle bound body builders.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the saga plays out - it will offer a good learning experience for the masses who never consider "survival"

+1 paranoid me; expects they'll be awakened in the middle of the night by the night security catching one of the neewbie's loading up the food and sneaking out. or unlocking a door for their buddies outside.
