Better to deal with than Spetsnaz.

Not so sure. I could shoot the Spetznaz easily, but would have to think twice about shooting our own troops. The only way I can see the Spetnaz getting in my sights is if we are (partially) disarmed. (One for them, one for me, under the tree --)

"In times of emergency or a major disaster". A real emergency requires food, medicines, supplies... and they want to add the logistics for 400K troops to that? What emergency requires 400K troops? Alien invasion? Godzilla? Galactus trying to take a bite out of Washington DC? Why not just rename NORTHCOM the Army of Occupation and get it over with.

I was going to post this in TFHL but it seems relevant here. There are many reports of Robert Gates considering a request for the stationing of troops to aid in a pandemic. A lot of war gaming and what ifs being discussed.

Swine Flu's Worst Case Scenario: Paranoia or Preparedness?

An uncontrollable, deadly virus ravages America, shutting down civilian institutions and triggering martial law. Vaccinations are compulsory, and there are mass quarantines throughout the country. It's the stuff of Hollywood — but rumors that it could be real are spreading like the flu in the blogosphere, where some people are loudly expressing their fears that the federal government is seriously considering such measures as it maps out a worst-case-scenario response to the swine flu pandemic. During the bird flu scare of 2005, the Bush administration added novel forms of influenza — including the swine flu — to the official list of "quarantinable communicable diseases," clearing the way for the forced detention of people who exhibit symptoms of the disease.

Now a proposal awaiting Defense Secretary Robert Gates' approval would allow the military to set up regional teams to assist civilian authorities in dealing with the impact of the swine flu pandemic.

And some observers see this level of government preparedness as little more than a pretext for tyranny. "The implications are far reaching," Michel Chossudovsky wrote on the Global Research Web site, which averages 18,000 visitors daily. "The decision points toward the establishment of a police state," he said. "It would be extremely troubling and raise serious constitutional questions," Chris Calabre, ACLU counsel for technology and liberty, told FOXNews.com when asked how the civil liberties group would react to mandatory quarantines. "We opposed this in 2005 and will do so again because it gives the government blanket authority to hold anyone and has no due process."

Foreign governments, too, are thought to be drawing up worst-case emergency plans that rely heavily on armed forces. "In addition to planning mass graves and crematoriums operating around the clock, governments are planning to implement martial law in response to a pandemic," Kurt Nimmo wrote on Infowars.com, which has been tracking disturbing developments in swine flu preparedness. Nimmo pointed to a report in the Daily Telegraph that referred to the British government's emergency plans for "mass graves, inflatable mortuaries, 24-hour cremations and 'express' funerals."

Simon Barrett, press officer with the Home Office Press Office, referred questions about Britain's plans to a 2004 Department of Health publication titled, "Pandemic Flu: a national framework for responding to an influenza pandemic," which makes no mention of mass graves and rapid body disposal. "Whilst there may be an increase in the number of flu-related deaths, local authorities will be able to cope using normal practices," Barrett said. Britain's planning document makes no mention of martial law, but stresses the need to maintain operational readiness.

I don't consider fully armed personnel coming after me, who are willing to shoot me dead (my own troops)...but I see your point.

[dunno] US soldiers are not nearly as disciplined, I know many of their habits, strengths, weaknesses, and logistic support requirements. I would greatly benefit from having an enemy I understood and knew very well.

The Spetsnaz are pretty awesome, but they are elite units, like our Rangers. Now that's a whole different argument there. An element of Rangers would super sized suck. [booze] But you know...this is what I sit around mulling over when I am bored.

Seems very soon the entire nation will come to understand what the families in the Deep South went through in the late 1860's, after the last disagreement we had with an overbearing Federal Government......

What used to be called "Carpet Baggers" are now called...... ACORN. [shtf]

Offhand, without gazing at references I can say that millions have died from influenza. Several generations ago, and still today people can die from flu strains -some of the most notable plagues of the past were viruses. Most notably, a person effected with an immunodeficiency virus such as AIDS ends up succumbing to the common flu, bronchial infections, and pneumonia. No person with AIDS has ever died from it directly, it is some other weakness in the body which causes death due to the lowered white blood cell count and immune deficiency.

Just seemslike unwarranted fear mongering Or paranoidversion:
"They" know more about this "upcoming pandemic bug " than people with clean hands should.

Oh no doubt, man. I agree completely. "They" want to scare the living SH*T out of you! "They" know very well that a frightened mind is one which can be easily guided when a "solution" is introduced. And "they" have just the thing.

Supposedly 10's of thousands die annually in the USA from the flu. This year, this strain realistically I think it will be higher than normal at 50 to 60K. I seriously wonder about the CDC and present Administration not having a viable safe vaccine ready. [dunno]

I do not fear the Mexican Flu nearly so much as I fear the Administration that is eager to make use of any handy disaster for their own ends!

With the recent MIAC report equating patriots/white/former military/3rd party supporters (Ron Paul)to white Al Queda, NORTHCOM deploying 400K doesnt surprise me at all.

My son is in basic right now at Ft Benning for 11B (infantry/Airborne) and told me 90% of his battle buddies have never even read the constitution, let alone know what it says or means.

So will a uniformed, uninformed, armed, 18 year old with a weapon, obey an order to disarm or engage Americans when he is told they are the enemy?

MY son says yes they will, he will not, he knows what the posse comitatus act is.

Introduce your son to the "oath-keepers". google them first yourself.

I think you will be pleasantly enlightened. [flag] Ask him to spread the word quietly, and to remind his buddies of their oath of enlistment .... every word. The Traitor unsurper of the Constitution is in Washington.
