Ok, too many DOOM & GLOOM threads going on lately.

What is/was your favorite Sci-Fi show. TV series or movie.

Mine was "Babylon 5", I loved it when it was on. I've watched the entire series on DVD, and now I'm watching it online. I like the fact it was done as a 5yr plot line, with subplots that resolved in 1 episode or in a few episodes.

I even got the wife hooked on the show.

    OK, what's your favorite?

The re-imaged Battle Star Galactica. Could have had a better series ending last spring.

the original "Alien" movie is probably my favorite.

My favorite is and will always be Babylon 5. The writing was terrific, and the acting superb. The characters are impressive, even if the show's budget wasn't always top notch. There were only a few flaws with the program, such as Centauri sexual organs (6), which I felt was a gross exaggeration and silly considering their body types. It would more suit the Pakmarah or even the Drazzi. Regardless, I loved it. I own every show on DVD (multiple copies of each), all the movies, the latest compilations, and the spinoff show "Crusade", which was canceled early. I love all of MJS (Michael John Strazinski) shows, including Jeremiah (another canceled show unfortunately).

The thing about Babylon 5 that I really love the most, is that no matter how many times I watch it, I always get something else from the program via script that I missed or didn't fully understand in the past. My favorite episode is probably season 3, episode 11 when Delenne comes to the aide of the station as John is holding off the Earth attack, and her response when told to leave immediately by the Earth fleet is "Why? Every Earth battle ship has lost to a Minbari war vessel, save one...He is behind me...you are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else."

Yes, Babylon 5 is amazing. There are a lot of values to be learned from that show. Drawing the line against the darkness no matter the cost -one I hold dear to me.

    Heroes
The Jetsons (the theme was my favorite part of our Chat room)
    Twilight Zone (original)
    Alien Nation
    Mork and Mindy
    ALF
    3rd Rock

Gosh, as I run a TV show memory list in my head, I'm finding that a lot of what I watched could be considered sci-fi.

What about Wonder Woman? The Six Million Dollar Man? The Bionic Woman? Planet of the Apes (Was that a regular show? I remember watching it some weekends with Dad)?

Hi. My name's Tracy and I'm a Sci-Fi geek.
(Thanks for that dose of reality, kckndrgn)

That is also my favorite line, although you miffed it a little:D

"Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me...."

WOW, didn't realize there were so many B-5 fans here :)

And like Broker, every time I watch it, I'll pick up on something else.

Too bad TNT had to get in and muck things up on the 5th season, but it was good overall.

Yup, and thanks for that correction, Magnus ;)

I own everything on video for Babylon 5, and I will continue to search for anything new. The only other show I love nearly as much is FARSCAPE, which is just awesome as well.

At first glance I thought the 5th season was horrible too. BUT it does what it is supposed to. It ties up loose ends. It really is sad to watch.

I never could get into sitting through B-5 episodes. I'm sure if I were to actually rent the DVD's I could get introduced to the characters properly and follow the story's progression.

ST:TNG was ok. I can't get past the moralist message of it. To believe that in the future humanity will all conform to a universal moral code and true liberty isn't exercised...call me crazy but I don't see it.

I did love the new Battle Star. My fav sci-fi movie of all time is probably the special edition of Aliens. I actually liked District 9 too. I really hope that story progresses. Hmm what else. There just isn't enough good sci-fi on film! And too much that is has a horror component that just ruins it for me. Don't get me wrong I like a good slasher film as much as the next guy but I don't like to mix the genres.

Yeah, B-5 is not one you can really get into mid-stream. Watch it from the beginning along with the movies in the right place and it will flow much better.

    "V" was a good show.

I never watched any of the new Battlestar Gallactica shows, though I did hear they are good. I'll have to see if I can find it online and watch some of it.

Okay, I have lurked at this thread for long enough, and I am man enough to lay it out there even though no one else brought this one up.... Highlander .... all of them, movies, and tv, have almost all of them on cd. JMHO of course...lol ... to each his own.

Highlander the first movie - great, they shoulda listened to their own saying "There can be only ONE".

Highlander the series - awesome, loved it. Well, towards the end with the watchers it started going downhill (JMHO of course)

We all have our own opinions ... and I totally respect that, even if I have not quite been so tolerant in the past. With age and experience one should learn. At least you liked some of it. Thank you for your input.

I always liked Adrian Paul as Highlander, but that is just my opinion. The TV show had a great run, and if it had followed the pace of the very first episode (nudity), I would have been even more interested. The Highlander movies are fun, but I feel that too much is left out in order to cram it all in to the formatted 90-120 minutes or whatever. The TV show was easier to become accustomed to.

I really don't like all of the Star Trek shows, but it has its moments. I really enjoy TNG, and I like DS9...I don't particularly like the old stuff, but all the movies are great. I was a bit confused with ST Enterprise, but Bakula is a cool actor and I drool over Jolene Blalock. All in all, Enterprise is the worst of all ST shows in my opinion as far as storyline goes...but this is arguable. I guess that I just don't like the whole socialist feel to it all, but it is framed on an advanced society which has global government.

I watched the original Trek, got into TNG, not so much DS9, I did get into Voyager after the fact, it was intriguing.

Highlander the series was cool...the movies confused me.

I really want to get into the "re-imagined" Galactica. I thought the final episode was pretty cool.

Who was your favorite B5 Character?

Tough question. Out of all of them, it would have to be Lando Mulari. At first, he was a pompous fool, but he grew wiser (thanks to his destiny with G'Kar), and he eventually and slowly realized that they all had to live for one another and that hatred will only serve to lessen our selves. As a Centauri, and the prime candidate to become his People's ruler, he later realized that he had very little choice but to help the Humans...unfortunately, caught unaware by the Drak, he finally came to know true horror, but instead of giving in, he managed to stand with his people despite the fact that it ended up destroying him. He still managed to help John and Delenne later on in his life (when John traveled through time), and kept his bond with G'Kar, which was always strange and edgy. I recognized Lando's pain, sympathized with his burden and secrets, and walked with him through his life in character always engrossed with his plight and his anguish and love for his people. I believe that so much has been devoted to his character, that it creates a very strong focus for the show's core; the battle between dark and light, and the beauty hidden within the darkness waiting to be born. The way he dealt with the Shadows on his own was symbolic to what actually took place in the macrocosm, where the struggle to choose their own fate was entirely upon their own volition; freedom of choice being the ultimate weapon against despotism and utter destruction. G'Kar's own troubles and conditioned hatred also mirrored Lando's, and the two played significant roles in adding true depth to the show. I think that I bonded most with Lando because he was denied so much which he deserved, and he never truly aspired to become the great Emperor that he could/should have been....of course, in some ways he did.

Of course, for a time...I was quite enthralled by a certain red-headed telepath, but that's another story. ;)
