For anyone interested in construction or engineering. There is still alot of talent in the USA

All in the name of security to keep random access off the dam itself. Hm. But it is a hell of a neat project. That looks like a post tensioned concrete arch. I think I'll look it up, pretty trick construction.

That is cool Saw that in september on our way into las vegas on the bike ... traffic slows to a stop as people rubber neck the bridge..I think this was built off site.

There is a security (DHS?) checkpoint before you cross the dam you have to go down to one lane and stop (but; they waved us through without any hassle).

    COOL pics.

But if the purpose of the new bridge is to bypass people from driving over the dam, they why run it in front of the dam like that. First thing I thought of was what if someone with a should launched rocket stopped and shot at the midpoint of the dam.

I dunno, guess I have my tin foil hat on today.

Struck me the same way. Some things don't compute. maddd "Stimulus" maybe, but it started well before zero hit the wallets of all. I think there are a slew of other projects around major infrastructure that are supposed to serve a similar purpose.

it would take a tactical nuke to hurt that dam.I got to go all over and in the dam when I worked there on the transformers movie and it is sturdy.

Currently, trucks are not allowed to pass over the dam (since 9/11), and they must go far around to reach Arizona. Also, it's not a short trip for cars having to go through (it's probably even longer now with all the rubber-neckers trying to look at that $@&! bridge :D

I haven't been there since the 1980's. I did get a tour when I was there, and that dam is incredibly sturdy. It was the crowned jewel of the depression, a lot of sweat went into making that baby.

I watched a Discovery Channel special on the dam (Hoover/Boulder Dam, I keep forgetting which it is called now) -and there are super secure "off limits" areas deep within. The cameras had to be turned off in order to continue down to the base. Pretty fishy stuff if you ask me. I wouldn't doubt if it housed some secret government center or was used as a secure mega-safe for elitists.

    That bypass bridge is amazing.

Yeah I watched a documentary on the building of the damn and watching them poor the multiple football fields wide mid section I don't think any shoulder fired missile made today is going to do much to it. A truck bomb on top wouldn't do much either. But you know terrorism is the new thing so you have to take it seriously! Whether it's any kind of threat or not. Be afraid people! Spread it around...or you're just un-American! Psha! [ROFL]
