Please Read, SM Site rules update

Hey All,

As some of you were aware, we had a few issues during the past couple weeks. The site saw a few infractions of the Survival Monkey Code of Conduct. It also saw the Staff react in an inconsistent manner.

You ever get stung by a bee when you meant no harm to the nest? I think that is what can happen here at times. The bees in our Staff started out as the only ones here. We had a team of 14 very tight folks that came over to a brand new site and started sharing ideas and thoughts. Sometimes a few in the hive can get nervous over a perceived threat and sting-- Especially when the Queen is out.

In the end, we all want the same thing here, (I presume). Information shared, some good discussion and debate, a few laughs and tears, etc.. We want this to be smooth and unrestricted. The reason a board like this can't be totally unrestricted or un-moderated is that First we consider ourselves a family friendly place.

Secondly, we have to limit the extent that certain things (and there are only a few of them) can be posted so that we don't get blocked by content rating firewalls and lose a portion of our readers. The Public Library in my town blocks SM for Violence and this is a new rating for us. I'd like to see us able to pass some of the Work, School and Library firewall tests in the future. (I think some parts of the Military block us as well).

I take full responsibility for a few of the misunderstandings of the past as I never set out a clear SOP on how we as Mods should handle situations as they came up. I think we have nailed it down to a more clear ond concise Code and added the violations and penalties as well.

Please don't see us as heavy handed if you have a post moved or locked or edited. The Staff here has been given clear direction to Moderate in a fair and friendly way. This starts now and we hope to have a great relationship with all of the Family at SM. If you have a problem with an act of Moderation here and want to talk about it, feel free to PM me anytime. I try to remain impartial in most of this stuff until we need a tie-breaking vote.

Try to keep in mind that the Staff here is trying to protect this site so that it can thrive. We have 14 Moderators here and that means (we hope) that at least one is online at all times. We can forgive errors in judgement and slips in taste but if a Mod thinks that a post can hurt this place, they have the power to do something about it so long as it isn't just because they don't agree with the opinion or subject of the post.

Read this Updated Code and see what you think. It can be changed and if you see something that we have overlooked, PLEASE let us know. We want it to be perfect and clear so that we have no surprises on all our parts.

Voort, those new and newly banned people were new spammers or worse. Seems like we get more of them than real people, and we try to keep the welcome mat cleaned up. Welcome aboard.

yeesh. I can see this thread needs, um, adjusting.

 

I think we are all on the same page now. This is the clydomatic way of lightening up a serious thread. Well, I for one just don't feel like banning peope that follow the CoC. So for those who want to sell something, put it in the buy/sell/trade threads. If it is placed in multiple threads, goodbye.

 

I actually 'banned' (in title alone) myself hoping to blame it on Quig. Didn't work and now I've had to come back and stir the pot a bit.

I have been on a bit of a 2.5 year unintended separation from internet monkey-business.
