This afternoon, the relative quiet was shattered by very loud and very low flying aircraft.
They came in fast, from the north east, circled once around the 2 mountains just to the north of us, and set down.
    CH-47 types. (confirmed)
    They as in : 4.
No one was seen walking over/around the mountains, and it was determined it was in our own best interests not to venture out and introduce ourselves....
After an hour and a half they departed, low and fast, heading back to the north east, just as they arrived.
    Maybe a training mission?
They may have been on BLM land, but we were not going to make a point of asking!
Earlier, we were told that 4-6 humvees were seen going over the mountain ridge....
Just to the immediate west of us....
No dust up here ( thank heavens!) all muddy right now.
Can you imagine what kind of dust storm they would have created?
All the vehicles and helo's were painted a sand/tan.
Makes one wonder.... what the heck those guys were up to!??

Probably scouting the illegal immigrant highway route and working on a better strategy to increase the flow of traffic.

I don't know. Could be nothing. Might be everything.

Just how close to Area 51 are you, anyway?

You know, I never thought of that. But, I lived in Henderson back in the 80's, and that was only 90 miles to the South-ish from Area 51. Never really watched anything too strange happen. I was just a kid though.

I imagine that Arizona being a bit further from there, I don't know why they would be out there doing maneuvers. Closer to the Hoover/Boulder dam than Area 51. So that would place him at least 200 miles, but I am only guessing.

hoover is a "higher security" area for dhs now, they stop all vehicles on the way, and then wave you through(on a touring bike)the dhs checkpoint. To take a raf trip leaving from the bottom of hoover you get off your raft company tour bus; go through a bag search before boarding a second searched&(cleared) bus for the4 mile trip to the river from the outfitter.

2 Huey's came in today, some sort of an emergency "rescue" up there!
I figure since there is a base in Flagstaff, about 50+ miles to the east, we may have a lot more going on around us than we ever knew about!

Ah, not too far from Kachina Peaks, are ya?

Yes, military bases will sometimes run drills, sometimes with the assistance of local law enforcement. I do not know any of the specifics of your area though.

I wonder if they would recognize a Solothurn from the air ---

YOU must have nice convenient "LZ" there somewhere.

That was one of my concerns when I bought the land....
Just "outside" the 2 mountains that enclose the "horshoe" we are in, is a wonderfull flat and open area where one could alnd a LOT of helicopters...in the winter anyways!
Now, in the summer, it would be a disaster, due to it being a giant dustbowl out there!
We have discerned that there are some "larger" military-style (shall I dare to say it?) compunds close to our location.
Some are 4 miles away some are more than 12.
Not only do they exist, but they are "manned" .

Check on google earth. Do they show up there? (You might do this from some other computer than your own.)

Nothing new shows up on google maps, in fact they recently had a new entry for my area, that was so far off base..... it was hilarious!
    But, I'm NOT complaining!
If I were to try to find my own place by their map, I'd end up in Key West!
    That's a good thing!
Due to weather conditions, I have gone a circuitous route, using the county tax maps and records to locate others in the area....
    It really works!
In fact I love their system!
Weather permitting, "we" are going to do some serious recon and using our digital cameras and 1500mm lens, I expect to get some very realtime intel!
Never thought I'd see the day I'd praise digital cameras.....
Today, I have changed my attitude.
Besides that we also have the old and newer versions of what they called the Cam-Roc.
1 is a rocket that takes a photo on film of a large area from 1500-2500 ft elevation as the rockets chute deploys' at apogee.
The second is a 10-12 second digital recording that begins at liftoff, from the ground up, and can be easily downloaded to a laptop or pc for enhancement and enlarging!
    Can't wait!

That rocket might not be a good idea. Depending how established they are, and how security conscience. Arty with a proper radar and computer can do counter battery computations as to launch point of a threat, and either fire on your position, or at least scramble choppers and a reaction force. Could ruin a persons day in a real hurry.

That's where we have a distinct advantage!
All these "model" rockets are of paper tubes and balsa wood construction!
They are very fast, and return in less then 90 seconds after they are launched.
All that is required is to determine winddrift and determine the best angle of launch and recovery area/s.
We can be as close as 30 feet or as far as 1/2-3/4 of a mile away when the rocket is launched...
    But you know nature.....
    And then there's Murphy's law!

9Gots to be an underground ufo base!!! Got any cattle mutilation incidents in the area?? (knew it all along!)

  19. dragonfly

    dragonfly Monkey+++

Only mutilations I am aware of is from the coyotes!
But then we recently "bagged" another dozen...
They multiply faster than we can take them down!
Must be a larger pack than first suspected....
We figure a den is close by too.
Since the snow fall increased, little activity around...
Too wet, too cold, and too muddy!
