CENSUS 2010: Questions or Concerns?

    Census 2010 arrived in the mail today:

    Question 1: How many people were living in this (house, apartment, mobile home) on April 1, 2010? Number of people = ___

    Question 2: Were there any additional people staying here April 1, 2010 that you did not include in Question 1? (multiple choice follows) *Select 'no additional people if applicable*

    Question 3: Is this a house, apartment, or mobile home? a.) owned by you or someone in this household with a mortgage or loan. b.) Owned by you or someone free and clear. c.) rented. d.) occupied without payment of rent.

    Question 4: What is your telephone number? *we may call if we don't understand an answer*

    Question 5: What is person 1's name? *last name*, *first name*, *MI*.

    Question 6: What is person 1's sex? *male, female*

    Question 7: What is person 1's age and what is person 1's date of birth?

    Question 8: Is person 1 of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin? *check which applies*

    Question 9: What is person 1's race? *white, black, Am. Indian or Alaska native*

    Question 10: Does person 1 sometimes live or stay somewhere else? *check which applies*


    THAT'S IT. Perhaps there are different Census forms floating around, but this is what I got. The other pages are all for additional people and ask for name, age, date of birth, sex, and relation to person 1. I used BOLD text above to cite the only questions which are intrusive and ask for specific, full name and date of birth, and phone number. Aside from this, I have no argument with the 2010 Census. I filled out everything except the bolded questions -I still do not know if I will, either.

    I don't know too much about the conspiracies floating around, or if there really are different forms for the Census which require more detail and ask personal questions regarding religion and other criteria. Ten questions really is a lot less than what I expected. Anybody else have any input?

    I'm waiting with anticipation for mine to arrive......
    Doesn't sound as if its going to be near as much fun as I had with the last one!

    Census questionnaire arrived, hand delivered. The guy was lost and needed some pointing out. What a screwed up operation, the maps are inaccurate, the addresses totally fubar, and the methodology leaves a lot to be desired. For example, this guy was working only one side of the road, somebody will do the other, or it’s already done. Nobody knows, or at least he didn’t. It took him three cross references to pin point my location on the inaccurate map and make notes of the incorrect info. Clearly, nobody spent any time at the court house with the plats.


    Along with that, the guy handed me a flyer giving references for the laws that require responses. And, of course, the reference for the paperwork reduction act. I've had two mailings, untold paper articles telling me all this, so where's the paper saving? (And the same appears in Spanish on the back. That alone simply annoys me.)



    "Laws" requiring us to respond on the questionaires --
    USC Title 13, sections 9, 141, 193, 214, and 221. And Title 44, sec 2108.

    I have a couple things needing attention today,. but will look up the USC items and see what I can see in the way of Congressional authorization by an act signed by my representatives.

    Edit for the lookup -
    13-9 Refers to privacy
    13-141 Talks about mid decade census
    13-193 is the one we are concerned with. It allows miscellaneous data collection at the direction of the secretary (dunno which secretary) but does not cite the authority for that on the site I found via Google.
    13-214 Discusses wrongful disclosure of data
    12-221 Details penalties for refusal to answer questions or fraudulent responses.

    Not so idle thoughts, but I was curious about the following:
    Q1 & Q3) what IF: people reside in one of the following and how would that then be "classified":
    Tents, RV's, home made trailers, shacks, aka: shanty's, buses, and vans!
    There are a LOT of people that WOULD be classified as HOMELESS, if they didn't have some sort of roof/covering over their heads...
    Q2) many of these people are what would be considered as derelicts or "traveler's" (aka: bums) that have no real residence, but move about constantly....
    Q3) (again!) What about the "squatters"? There are a lot of them all over the place, ususally on the outskirts of most cities and towns, even up north where my land is located.....
    Q4) even today, many of those that fall into those categories above, have NO address' much less a phone!
    Q5) the "joke" around here is that my name is: Jose' Jimenez, or lately that changed to Juan Valdez! Gonna be a lot of them! Few have ID's anyway! No drivers license's either for a variety of reasons!
    Q6) Don't ask, don't tell!??? ( glad I'm NOT in California!)
    Q7) see Q5!
    Q8) Now that's a problem, as some have NO parents, and have no known relatives living, and have no idea of their heritage! I guess they could take a stab at it, and it seems to be all a "hit or miss" proposition anyway at best!
    Q9) back to Q8! Who knows without a DNA test? I mean REALLY knows? Can you be fined for giving FALSE information if you mistakenly "assume" you are a Native American, and find out you may be Spanish or Mexican? Or Vice-versa?
    Q10) Now that's a question! Does it count IF you go out of town for a weekend or a visit at a friend or relatives place? How about a weekend of fishing in another state or some other obscure area?
    I know it sonds like I'm being a nit picking idiot, but consider, everything is relevant in one way or another...really!

    Sent mine in this morning, only Question One answered. Now we see how long before the Census Drone shows up on my doorstep....... :rolleyes:

    Strangely enough, census takers were seen, "enetering" a home, after opening a gate, and going into the man's yard ( good thing he was gone and had taken his 3 dogs with him!)They then opened his front screen door ( solid door was left open, as he had gone to the store and knew his neighbors would watch his house for him while away!) and just walked right in!
    Neighbors went over and asked what they were doing...the neighbors were "informed/advised" these "census takers" were employees of the Federal Government and could go anywhere they wanted to!
    So, I guess we know what that means!
    I think that's somewhat illegal!???
    You can bet I'd be screaming for somebody's hide!

    Stupid, leaving his door unlocked. These drones saw an opportunity to 'help themselves'.

    They try that here, they'll be explaining it to the cops - through a busted lip........

    Privacy of Census Responses
    Under federal law, all employees and officials of the Census Bureau are prohibited from sharing a person's personal information with anyone else, including welfare agencies, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Internal Revenue Service, courts, police and the military. Violation of this law carries penalties of $5,000 in fines and up to five years in prison.

    Which doesn't mean jack, since "law" can change anytime they feel the need.....even by edict of a dictator in the White House.....as one past aid said about EO's : "Stroke of the pen, law of the land.....kinda cool"

    As to mine, answered #1, and wrote "None of the rest of this meets the Constitutional requirement for an enumeration.....try reading it."

    Same answer any drone that show up will get.

    If it costs me a 100 FRNs, I'll be glad to part with it.

    So who are these "drones" that work for the census? OVERPAID typical bureaucrats I assume, wasting our money to do something once every ten years. So what do these "drones" do the other 9 years out of the decade? Just collect dust and cost us money until it's time to count again?

    The drones on the ground are federal employees. They get $11.50 an hour and mileage. And they are temporary hires. If they are all lucky, they have about 4 months of work this year. But zero created the jobs, so bow to his largess.

    Zero = "bobo the whitehouse clown" - the current "Resident" of the Oval Office warming the chair normally reserved to the President of the United States.
    The Census Drones are poor dumb local citizens hired temporarily to be the official Goobermint Gadflies to cajole the sheeple into blindly giving their personal info to The Man. I don't blame them - they need the work - too bad it's such odious work, badgering good honest tax-paying citizens. :rolleyes:

    They get question #1 from me and that's it. They have the rest of the info if they really want it, so they can work to collect it.

    For the most part, locals are hired especially in rural areas where everyone knows each other, and more apt to not give the census taker any real hassles.
    But then again.....
    Ya just never know!
