What is a good "I don't care if it gets stolen" gun?

Sorry I got it wrong. It wasn't the CZ52 that was a jam-o-matic, but the cz50! Little .32 acp piece of junk.
Funny thing is that I sold it on gunbroker.com, listed ALL of its eccentricities (being honest here) and got 3x what I paid for it!

PA63 is 8 rds vs. 6 in the p64 right? I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for both at the next gun show.

That's pretty good if you can actually come out ahead when buying and selling this kind of hardware. Funny thing is, I actually wanted a CZ-50 a while back but bought some other stuff instead :^) Perhaps that was a lucky break!

Over at SouthernOhioGun.com it shows the "European" PA-63 having 7-rnd mags and the Hungarian PA-63 having 8-rnd. Either way, it carries more than the P-64.

As much as I like the P-64, it's not without its faults. The chief fault for me are the sights - very small and hard to acquire a target. If my eyes were even 10 years younger, I might not mind so much.

I looked at (and held with both hands) a Taurus 709B Slim and fell in love. I would have traded both my CZ82s if I'd had them with me. Concealable, light, and beautiful sights. I still might do it if I can read some reviews and others' hands-on insights.

For CQB, if you are concentrating on your sights -you are doing it wrong. ;)

But, I hear you about the whole "eyes" not working right with old age. It sucks. I was out back smacking carpenter bees with a stick trying to use the force, you know...since it worked so well for Luke in Star Wars. After a few minutes, I conceded that it must have been easier to have held a lightsaber while fending off little stinging bolts of light. Thankfully, carpenter bees do not sting -aside from the Queen.

I was at 5 hits out of about 3,927 swings when I finally went inside.

I found an HS2000 (XD-9 before Springfield bought the rights) for a song $300OTD and it is my throw around. I also picked up a Llama 1911 copy for well under $300 at a gun show that was like new. Damn thing won't stop. So I would look around locally at gun shows, pawn shops, if you have anything lick Texas Gun Trader (kind of like craig's list for guns) here in Texas.
My first SA pistol was a Ruger P-89. 9mm rattle trap, but it was cheap, accurate, and ran reliably and are really common.

If I were concerned my gun might get stolen from my vehicle, I'd go with something in an oddball caliber that the typical Homey doesn't know how or where to get, and keep the ammo/magazines hidden separate fromthe gun. Then if he gets my gun, it's useless to him. [lolol]

Say, maybe a bobbed/snubby Nagant revolver.......

Don't know of a pistol I would be comfortable losing. In my mind if it's good enough to depend on it's too good to let go. Now i have a shotgun that I paid 40 dollars for many years ago and it works OK but if it had to go it would not cause too much stress. Shotguns and rifles seem to be more dependable even when cheap compared to pistols.
OK it would stress me but just not that bad. I hate to think about getting rid of a firearm, each one has a story. But with the economy and such I never say I wouldn't part with one. Sorry I drift off topic.

Magnus, I like the HS2000 too! A Glock-owning buddy has two. Like a Glock for half the price! Shoots very tight, and has been very dependable.
I have not handled the SA XD9 yet, so can't compare the new to the old.

My new-to-me Dodge Grand Caravan has the "Stow&Go" seats, and I have been thinking of removing the rearmost seats, and making a locking cover for the underfloor compartment. With some matching carpet over it, it would provide a large hidden stowage area for a BOB and a short rifle or shotgun, as well as a pistol.

I like that Idea. I have a 38S&W caliber revolver that I got for free, along with 1 box of ammo. I could just see homey get a box of 38 Special and trying to figure out why the bullets are "too long".

Can you see homey trying to find some .455 Webley ammo in a Wally World raid?

Glock makes a good product, it's just not a pistol for me. I don't like the angle of grip.

There might be some suppliers selling for less, these were selling for $250 a while ago. This is a great pistol for an economical price, even if they aren't still $250. I have nothing but good things to say about Sig pistols.

On second thought I think it was the Sig 225 (P6) that were $250.

I feel your pain. I've been paring down my collection because honestly, I've gotten kinda heavy with the guns, light with the food... I have that tendency.
My criteria is that things that will not be practical in TEOTWAWKI have got to go.
On the bright side, everything is selling for at least what I paid for it, sometimes much more.
Weird thing is that I have an odd collection of ammo leftover. Might just post it here for free or close to it.

Hey, I knew this guy in Germany who drove an ice cream/gut truck and his name was Homey. Well. That's what we always called him. Ever see a German dude try to act like he was an American gangster? It's kind of hilarious, actually.

Me: "Homey, glad ya made it you scumbag!" (all in good fun)

Homey: "Heeeey! Yo, what the F*cck you get today? Got mothaf*ccin salami, ham..."

    classic.

My EG Makarov ran well with Barnaul HP ammo.

I would look at a CZ82 or a Kel Tec 9mm. Police trade in S&W 3rd gen. All should be under 300.

I really like the cz82. They are reliable, accurate and the ammo is fairly easy to find. At $200 they are one of the best buys on the market....

I would want something that I was assured of finding ammo for if the need arose. For that reason I would go with a police trade-in fixed sighted stainless Smith 38 or 357 (~$250) or an 9mm Argentine High Power that has just came on the market in very good condition for $299.

You can find 38 and 9mm in any mom & pop hardware store or gas station just about any where in the country.

My every day truck gun is usually a 4" Model 28 Highway patrolman or some other 357 varient in 2.5 or 4 " with 3 speed loaders.

    When I travel, I travel with a pair of 2.5" 357 Smith 66's and a Rossi 16" barreled lever action in .357.

The whole premise of a "I don't care if it gets stolen" gun offends me as a potential victim of the thief and the irresponsible action of a gun-owner that would purchase a deadly weapon thinking that someone might steal it because it would get left in the car or where-ever. A weapon is meant to defend your life and property and should be as good a quality as you can afford. Just the notion that you want a cheap handgun to maybe have access to and maybe have turned against you sucks Dude. Get a good gun and learn to use it properly, carry it responsibly, and secure it safely when not in use or rely on 911; we don't need bangers getting more guns to rob us with.

That's you're opinion and you're entitled to it.

But it's also the exact same mentality that has pushed gun laws to the point where we have 30,000 some odd federal and state gun laws which do nothing more than steal away your rights.

The idea of putting the burden of maintaining the peace on the individual rather than on the justice system is contrary to liberty.
Nowadays in some states a gun owner is responsible for maintaining trigger locks and safes in his own home because society has become so out-of-hand. If a bad guy get's his gun, it's his fault. Does that sound like liberty? That's what you're advocating.

So now it's not good enough for me to leave a firearm in my own locked car? I suppose I should weld a safe to the floorboards? Would you support a law that required it?

    What next?
When they can routinely crack these safes I suppose I should not be allowed to keep a firearm in my car at all? Or wait! Microchip the guns and ID them to my hand! See where that leads?

More laws, fewer guns for the good guys, more guns for the bad guys. Less liberty for us, more freedom to rob and rape for them. That's the way it works. At some point law abiding folks are so afraid to carry that the bad guys don't even need a gun.

It's bad enough that I have worry about making sure I don't carry anything too valuable so I can avoid personal loss. Now I have to worry about ALL of society too? That's the notion that "sucks" Dude.

I am not your worry man. Be glad I'm riding with that cheap gun. I may use it to save your life someday.
