Oil spill cleanup was suggested in the ticker forum OP 1 hour later replies "Heard from another source that it sounds more ominous than oil cleanup. One unit drawing weapons gear and headed to Dobbins Air Force base. That unit has already had its yearly TMO "test" too. TMO=Tactical Mobiliation order...I think Still heresay and rumor stage. <table><tbody><tr> </tr></tbody></table>
One thing that's been in the back of my mind: When will Israel have enough of Iran's BS? Anyone thinks they are going to sit by while this guy makes his missiles operational so that they can rely on a Patriot ought to remember Iraq circa 1982. A pre-emptive strike is almost certain. At that point, we'll be drawn in to something, somewhere over there. Maybe that is what's coming.

The euro is screwed. The dollar is screwed. The monetary system is screwed world wide. Probably a good time for a new enemy and war somewhere. Thank goodness the Big O has followed through with his campaign pledge to pull our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan so we can confront the new enemy.
Statistics is a branch of math. Ergo, GIGO. If you believe, some industries are essentially political (or politics interjects itself) and the result is also GIGO. Now, whether you believe BP, or EXXON, or any of the other biggies when they speak of things they know (or admit they don't) once the pols get hold of it, once again, GIGO. And (I hesitate to add) once you get out of simple arithmetic, all solutions to all equations depend on the inputs to the variables. Once again, GIGO (but that, of course, depends on who is inputting the variables. If it is Congress, or antis, or obbys, well, you can see where that will go.) Believe in arithmetic, I do too. Once x and y (and z or more) get into the act, question EVERYTHING. (Curve fitting was the bane of my existence in a 500 level course. Only the pain is remembered.)
heh. I've always viewed statistics to be a way for people to try to stretch the truth of the math to satisfy some desired result.. aka. fudgey math. But you do have, if anything, this one thing correct: It depends on the person running the equation. Never-the-less.. math will never lie. People do.
Dad always said:" There's:" Lies, Damn lies, and statistics" I believe the progressive view is 2+2=5 ( isn't it "Winston"?)By the third crushed tooth its whatever the ministry of truth says it is. I think "truth" has been MIA fora long time now and methinks if the progressives get any ,more yardage, it'll be even worse. Never had any "statistics" classes so they're a mystery to me .(" standard deviation" WTF ???)
I personally will never use the term "progressive". That term describes what a liberal is NOT. That is unless you define progress as handing your liberty over to a bunch of self-interested elitists. Not picking on you Tango, just a pet peeve of mine Nowadays, sadly so-called conservatives are pushing a whole different set of lies. I have to turn the station when I hear Hannity or Limbaugh tell me that the world is soaked with oil, enough natural gas to run the country for 100 years, drill for energy independence. IMO, the truth is what differentiates a true conservative from a neo-con.
There really is enough gas to do for 100+ years in CONUS. The oil, I ain't so sure about. Drill, baby, drill!!!
Plenty off of the coast of Carolina here. Unfortunately our politicians have turned left and put unrealistic coastal protection measures in place. The same ones will b*tch at the gas companies when it costs a small fortune to heat your home. Not sure if all of that gas is economically accessible Ghrit. There's a difference between seeing it down there and actually getting it out AND making it pay.
I can't speak to offshore gas, but there's enough in the various shale plays to take care of things on shore. It's deep, but with some (more or less) recent technological improvements, it is recoverable with only minor increase in price (to levels of only 2 years ago.). One of the things impacting more aggressive drilling is nearly full storage, and troublesome dot gov delays on permitting. Plays worth watching are the Marcellus, Haynsville, Bakken, and the Barnett. The Haynesville and Barnett are well developed, but a long way from depletion. The Marcellus is under exploration and starting development, the Bakken is only prospective, but very promising. Huge. At this time, the main restraint is demand. Until demand takes the price above the current rock bottom prices, the economics aren't there. Two years ago, the price was lots higher which prompted the major companies to invest heavily in drilling. They have pulled back a bit. Point being, it's there, we just don't want it bad enough. Much the same way, we can get oil from overseas for less (money and headaches) than it costs us to get our own. Personally, I don't see the downside of using up theirs and having ours in reserve. Me, in favor of a global economy? I don't bleeping think so.
THAT is the domino that could send us into a peak oil nightmare. If and when it ever happens, time will be of the essence. The obstacles put up by government make it all the more frightening.
Even If ( using the big "if")they get the gulf leak shut down before the benzene comes a shore and wipes out all the elderly in Boca Raton..I'm not sure you're gonna see very many leases /permits issued to drill baby drill, Yeah we need it..
