I do not think that the blast was done on purpose, but I think the lack of doing stuff afterward, amd getting in the way of letting others clean up by our government is on purpose.

T3 will find someone that is sure it's on purpose, believe it. That said, deliberately letting that well go out of control would be a new high in idiocy.

Think of the children!! Think of the profits!!

zero isn't getting in the way of cleanup, but US law sure is. Restricting foreign vessels from getting into it for commerce reasons is insane. Well, he could suspend Jones for the duration by EO, I guess, so maybe he IS in the way.

I can subscribe to that theory as more plausible. It certainly feels that way doesn't it.. it's like it landed in their lap.

Right now I personally believe they tapped into something no driller was prepared to handle( completely by accident or ignorance; Ive seen numbers as high as 70,000psi at the bop( perhaps ghrit can comment on that #). If they just plug the bop . the pressure is exerted against the eroded casing( into the rock?).Yes they couldhave waived the "jones act"and brought in all available skimmers and help but obama's union buddies might question it. I would've told the EPA to kiss my furry red baboon butt and dredged up sand berms immediately off the marshes.Jindahl would have no trouble getting re-elected.and the marshes might've been spared.

Take this knowing that the numbers are approximate and make some rather crude assumptions and mental gymnastics. (In other words, without writing the numbers out, and leaving the calculator in the desk drawer.) 70,000 psi at the BOP means, very roughly, that the pressure at 18000 feet of drilled depth would have to be around 77K psi in the formation. That is way "over-pressured" in driller's lingo. "Over pressure" meaning pressure above ambient, IIRC. It is what makes a well flow without pumping.

Dunno A) - How accurate that is, and B) how realistic it could be. Got my doubts about that, maybe Minuteman can chime in when he gets settled and access established. To my knowledge, there's never been a pipe designed for that high a pressure in other than a laboratory environment. I don't know everything by any means, but I have direct knowledge of 5K psi pipe in service to ASME standards. The API standards are slightly different.

And then again, I might do a more rigorous check later. It does sound astronomical.

Back on the "green" topic, I heard very little about that during the little of the speech I could stomach after listening to how HE was going to ensure BP was going to PAY dearly for the MISTAKES they made, and how HE was upset. (Wasn't there mention of another czar to see to it that they pay?) It also sickens me that those CEOs sat and took the insults the Senators threw at them. Pussies all. I had several thoughts about what my reaction would have been if some lout of a politician told me I should resign. And those birds from the other majors just plain threw BP under the bus with the benefit of hindsight. A travesty.

Can they detect the presure in a formation /deposit with seismic studies?
I started to watch the yacking but didn't get past aboutthefirst 3 minutes of yada yada...

Short answer, no. It takes a well to find out how the formation is pressured or not. Once they know what is at the bottom of an exploratory well, they can make some pretty good guesses at the rest of the formation. Seismic will define the geology, and in great detail. (At least on land it will. I would suppose also in water if you can get the sensors on the bottom, but it isn't clear to me how they would do that.) That said, the petro guys have enough experience to make pretty good guesses at the pressures to be expected.
