NA Arms 22lr

Anyone tried the lanyard holster that hangs the NA Arms 22lr right at your breast bone? In theory, this sounds pretty good except for the fact that the barrel is pointed at your chin!

I've always thought the same thing. I've always one with a kydex holster as a necker would be great until I thought about it some more. I've actually seen those holsters in the past.

Then again, I often carry a handgun with the barrel pointed at my femoral artery .

I always thought those were pretty cool little guns. Anyone with experience?

Although I don't like the idea of staring down a barrel, the NAA design is pretty safe. As safe as a human can make something, because we all know that we make bigger idiots every day, and these idiots have a tendancy to hurt or kill themselves or others in ways we couldn't imagine.

With that out of the way, the safety on the NAA mini revolvers consists of notches in the rear of the cylinder, between each cartridge rim. That is, directly between each and evry round. The hammer, in the forward position, rests in the notch. This guarantees that the cylinder cannot turn until you pull the hammer back to cock it. It also guarantees that the firing pin on the hammer is as far away from each cartridge rim as possible.

Actually a pretty good system. I carry one in .22 Magnum when hiking or boating. The snake shot is pretty powerful. If I'd get another, I would pay up and get the interchangeable cylinders of .22 lr and .22 Mag, because .22lr doesn't fit in a .22 Magnum chamber; it falls down into it.

Even knowing that it is a safe pistol, I still don't like the idea of it pointing at my head. I usually carry it in a pouch or in a pocket holster.

I got one in .22 mag and shoot .22 LR snake-shot in it regularly. Seems to chamber .22 LR just fine.

I wish I had yours then, because neither of my .22 Mags will take .22lr. The cartridge falls into the cylinder a little bit and will not set the rim properly.

The rim DOES allow .22LR to 'fit' in the .22 Magnum chamber - but the case body is smaller, and the pressure WILL balloon the case, possibly splitting it. Been there, done that...... can get messy.
Bullet size is NOT a factor, as these 'convertible' revolvers have one bore. Difference in true .22LR and .22Magnum bore is negligible.
My old Tanfoglio TA76 western-style revolver (ancestor of today's Heritage Roughrider) has the .22 Magnum cylinder with a ".22LR" marked barrel - I think the PO lost the original .22LR cylinder.
I regularly shoot the primer-only 'Colibri' ammo in it. At the range they think I am shooting a pellet pistol - til I pop off the .22 Mags! Hehehe......

I have never tried .22 LR in it, only the snake-shot. Haven't had any problems with that. I imagine that Seawolf is correct about the case splitting with full-powered loads. I keep one loaded with .22 snake-shot for my wife to shoot snakes that get into her Koi pond. She does not care for snakes in her pond. I'll try some CCI mini-mags in mine today and let you know if they get stuck.

I've fired LR in a mag cylinder of a single six. Yep, they split, and no, they don't fall in. Not very accurate, tho' --

I wouldn't say negligible. The .22 mag bore is larger than the .22 LR. Accuracy suffers when shooting a .22LR from a convertible .22 mag. Would it matter out of a NAA with snake shot.... no. Would it matter when making a head shot on a rabbit from a convertible revolver at 50 yds...... definitely. For the NAA, I wouldn't worry too much about accuracy.

I am curious of the accuracy that people get with these little revolvers.

Years ago a buddy had one for CCW - I kid y'all NOT! He got pretty fair with it, and could consistently hit a soda can at 15 feet. I couldn't shoot it worth a darn - in my big mitts, the whole pistol would 'stovepipe', sticking straight up! Hehehe......
He finally got rid of it and switched to a .380 semiauto for CCW. A scare with an armed 'dumbazz' at the range convinced him he needed a bit more firepower.......

Here's some pictures I just took. The .22lr is a dud that I kept for future demill. You can planely see the difference; .22lr falls into the chamber and rolls around, the rim not fully seated like the .22 Mag next to it. It also sits lower. I wouldn't doubt that you could fire it, the firing pin on the NAA is pretty long, but I don't think I'll bother.

I don't lie about the stuff I post. If I don't know anything about what is being posted, I'll ask a question or keep my mouth shut.

Off topic- the only thing I'd like to do to my NAA is put a stainless steel sling swivel on the bottom of the grip. Then I could attach a lanyard for when I go boating and not worry about loosing it. I can find all kind of blued steel swivels, but no stainless steel ones.

Didn't even imply you were lying, dude. Just mentioned that I shoot .22 snake shot out of mine with no problems. Just fired a cylinder of CCI Mini-mags out of mine and it did expand the cases a little but did not split them and they were not any problem to extract. I can try to get a picture of them.
As for accuracy? I get definite "get your ass off of me" groups with mine.

No, it was just that it had been a few years since I tried putting a .22lr cartridge into the cylinder. About all I could remember is that it fell in and rolled around. Not normal for a shell in a revolver! You guys got me thinking so, I had to try to remember why for myself.

I'm seriously considering a Ruger Single Six. I was curious about the accuracy of 22LR out of it vs the 22MAG. Anybody have one or shot any 22LR through one to check for accuracy? Would it be better to just get one in straight 22LR?

Sorry for the hijack! Just curious.

To continue the hijack a bit (if it goes any longer, we'll start a new thread) I have a Convertible Single Six. It shoots better with LR than with magnums.

This is an exception. I have owned two. Both were mediocre with LR compared to any other LR pistol. One of the issues I had with shooting magnums was the lack of variety. Ghrit, let me know if this could be your problem as well. When you only have a couple brands on your Wal-Mart shelf, it's hard to tell if it's the gun or if I haven't found the right ammo. With LR, you generally don't have that problem.

For these reasons, I have moved on to .22 LR dedicated pistols. I may get a magnum dedicated one in the future, but no more convertibles for me.

Terribly sorry for the obvious hijack.

Hold the gun with your right hand the best you can and then...

From a previous post I made:

"You have to know how to shoot one of those beasts. Your left thumb cocks the hammer and then holds the gun down above the grip next to the hammer."

    Fire then repeat.
