I want to ship my Ruger Mark 1 back to Ruger for repair.
What is the proper procedure for shipping unloaded (of course) firearms?

    Thank you,

    Todd Cole

By far, your best bet is to call them to make sure that you aren't crossing some silly rule.

I use USPS for rifles and shotguns, but since it is a pistol you would have to have a FFL ship using them. Might be cheaper shipping cost since I believe UPS and FedX require next day air shipping for handguns.

You do not need to use an FFL to ship back to the manufacture or other FFL for repair. You do need to ship it a certain way (I think it was USPS Express but can't remember). The manufacture can also then send the handgun directly back to you signature required.

Call them and ask about shipping method.

    edit: it was UPS overnight.

For a handgun, ship it Next Day Saver. Cheaper than regular next day air.

And as mentioned, no need to send it through a FFL.
