Well I decided to give the bearded axe Bear very kindly sent me a little test out today.

I split willow with no problems although the axe splits wood better when the wood is long ways rather than splitting it from the end.

I also split some well seasoned cherry wood with the axe without any problems, this wood was 4" thick.

Sharpened the end of some willow as you would making tent pegs or a basic spear.

De-barked some willow and made a feather stick.

The block of wood I was chopping on is Oak and the axe went through the wood I was chopping and into the block, there was no rolling of the cutting edge on the axe and at the Finnish It still held and edge.

I think this axe is going to make for a very good camp axe.

From what I have found out about this style of axe they were used for building long ships and Viking houses.

Well Bro you must have done a good heat treatment on it as I really walloped it into a seasoned oak block and there was no rolling of the edge and it held the edge very well,I was more afraid of the shaft breaking than anything else.

Thank you Bear for the wonderful axe because I will be having a lot of fun with it,by the way everyone thats seen it absulutly loves it and I have shown it to a good few people.[boozingbuddies]

I can trace my family in the UK back to before the domesday book and they were of Viking blood.

Imagine having both Viking and Celtic blood, what a mix[booze]

Bro the Isle of Man is not Ireland, its an isle between England and Ireland but the people there are of Celtic blood and nobody knows who the first King of Ireland was and if they did I doubt there was just one king as there was four provinces Ulster,Munster, leinster and connaught which all had there own King.

The first king of Ireland to unite the tribes was Brian Boru.

Yes, but it was the center of the Kingdom of Mann which included Ireland but as you mentioned and I had to research, only parts of it. See, this is the cool part.. have to constantly research and update my history. Great fun!

Its really hard to nail all the facts from history but all we can do is try to piece it together.

But the only true fact we can be sure of If your blood line comes from Ireland-Isle of man you have Celtic blood running through your veins.

One thing I have noticed about the modern English man is that he is proud of his Viking-Anglo-Saxon heritage but forgets about his Celtic blood because before the Vikings,Romans and Normans we were Celts.

Im really glad you enjoyed the little bit of history of the rune stone on my blog, that has made my day.[boozingbuddies]
