    Thanks:
Always wanted todo the blanket, cup and poncho trip, because if I'm taking one of my backpacks I have plenty of room:, I might as well take my modern summer sleeping bag, If i take themodern bag I might as well take the nylon hammock; and the bug netting; and the butane stove. ad infinitum...
I substituted "DEEP WOODS Extreme 40%deet "off" repellent and a pocket head net. for full mosquito netting.

WARNING!!: Insecticides and specifically:"DEET" applied in sufficient quantities cross the blood/ brain barrier and have been attributed to aural and visual hallucinations. Never having done hallucinogens for recreation it was one weird night...Though the (tropical) Japanese fighting fish with the flowing dorsal fin eating leaves off the dark trees (moving from tree to tree@ 04:30 WAS a little unsettling.[peep][peep]:oops::oops:

The butterfly mobiles were kinda cool .( the sky was slightly lighter than the underside of the dark canopy so the spaces between the leaves had brighter triangles that changed size and shape as the breeze blew and the leaves moved. My chemically addled brain interpreted those spots as small butterflies that flaped their wings as the shape changed.and added a 3dimensional mobile effect to boot.
Kinda like looking at an optical illusion do you see the objects? or the spaces?...

Feel like crap today ; Web says I'll be fine in a few days.Once the stuff clears my system.[slow][slow][slow]

Yes: I "stealth camp" I avoid people on the way in to so I am not hassled. I get there ( the atv unloading parking lot at the trail head) and there's two new signs put up: "NO overnight camping" and "Park closed 10p.m.-6a.am.with the sheriffs dept. phone#"being as I am going to walk some of the "ice age trail" and being a scofflaw; I grab my kit and walk in and get some really long hard looks by a few of the atv'rs coming out of the trail.
So all night I'm thinking " are they gonna call, am I gonna get hassled, or find a' ticket under the windshield wiper, or a dept nat resources car parked next to my truck in the morning?"About 0200 I hear the sound of an atv idling around, seems to be stopping, and if I stare into the dark hard enough it seems there's some headlight wash on some of the trees away by where I think the main trail should be.

did I hear a real Atv? After the fish: I can't say one way or the other .So I 'm laying there in the leaves on high alert desperately staring into the dark woods and trying to hear over the frogs from the lake. Thinking It might be the dnr rangers. Should I ditch the gear and E&E back to the rig?( well they've already got my license#) so that's useless and dangerous..,

The active agent, N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET), contained in insecticides can produce acute onset of physical and psychiatric disturbances. Usually, DEET toxicity is caused by prolonged, continuous and repetitive use of insecticides. Physical symptoms include urticaria or, as in the pesent case, gastrointestinal disturbances (e.g., abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea). Neuropsychiatric symptoms include lethargy, anxiety, behaviorial disturbances, ataxia, delirium, seizures, and coma.15 DEET is rapidly absorbed percutaneously, reaching peak plasma concentrations within an hour after application.6 Normally, it is rapidly metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine within 24 hours. DEET is also highly lipophilic, thus, repeated use can lead to accumulation of DEET within adipose tissue. Metabolites can accumulate in skin and adipose tissue for as much as 2 months.6,7 DEET can likewise accumulate in the central nervous system, readily passing through the blood-brain barrier, producing lethargy, confusion, delusions, illusions, and/or hallucinations.1,2,4,5,810

They do go on to say there are only a couple of verifiable cases in adults in the records..I hope I am not prone to real schizophrenia. [loco];)[slow][slow]
As this was a highly unusual occurrance I have to attribute it to the chemical Besides topical use I managed to get a whiff or two up the nose..

    Now you got me concerned.

I like that. I've been tempted to do the same.
The gamelands here are vast, beautiful and close by. Except for deer season, they're also abandoned. Seriously, even during turkey season, there's hardly anyone there.
That is some scary stuff. I have some mystery health issues and stuff like that does not sit well with me.

    After action(Lessons learned )
Sleeping on the ground without a ground pad sucks and is getting harder. A Hennesy hammock is in my future..

Light weight Gloves even in summer are a winner

Earplugs for skeeter buzzing might help..

No matter how wide your "level sleeping shelf" is; on the edge of a hill, its not wide enough (see "hammock" above).

Even the lowly .22 is comforting when things go "crunch" in the night [peep]

A pocket skeeter headnet works and weighs nothing.

    DEET is powerful.[own2]
Don't spray your head net so you're breathing it all night.[slow][loco][slow][slow]

 T3 - you crack me up! I've never heard of DEET being a hallucinogen, or anyone having the side effects that you did, but I don't bathe in it, either ;).

Beautiful area! Thanks for sharing!!

:) I feel much better today; thanx.

"! I've never heard of DEET being a hallucinogen, or anyone having the side effects that you did"

Besides; I've had a stroke.... I get along fine; but My brain is NOT wired like anybody elses' anymore. I've seen the schematics...

I'd imagine even spraying underarm deodorant in a headnet and breathing through it for 10 or12 hours would mess you up too..

can't resist a few more pics...

I'm so glad you're feeling better!

That really does look like a nice area! Ice Age Trail? Are there fossils or special rocks to see? Is that water standing (it looks that way to me) or running?

Thewater in the picture was overflow flowing from that particular lake, albeit very slowly.

The Ice age trail follows the ,maximum extent of the glacier line in Wisconsin there's evidence several kinds of topography( enough to give a geology major "happy pants")..
its possible to hike the :1200 miles! it's the midwest version of the PCT (pacific crest trail ) or At (Appalachian trail).

A mere 15,000 years ago during the Ice Age, much of North America lay under a huge glacier. Mammoths, saber tooth cats and cave lions roamed the earth! Some of the best evidence of this glacier is found in Wisconsin such as the state’s many lakes, river valleys, gently rolling hills, and ridges. The nearly 1,200 mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail, established in 1980, traces the glacier's edge. Come, explore, and enjoy!

Perhaps Someday it'd be a nice accomplishment to hike the whole length.

I'm surprised the mosquitoes let you out alive. That place looks beautiful but infested.
