seeking non-toxic mosquito repellant ideas I found some anecdotal information that using listerine mouthwash in a spray bottle helps with mosquitos
( an in formal net poll found 62%who tried it had "some sucess" )

I've found Vicks very useful as the mosquito repellent. What's the annoying chemical in it for mosquitoes? For other insects such as house flies, I found mint leaves dipped in a bowl of water are very effective.

—Guest irfana aamir

http://chemistry.about.com/u/ua/summerchemistry/naturalrepellentsthatwork.htm

At our last camping trip, my Mr. tried vinegar (info. from another thread here). The first night; they got him (apparently, it hadn't gone through his whole system) and the rest of the time he was left alone.

    Co-ink-ee-dink? [dunno]

I'd be more apt to try the Listerine. - Did you know it works for dry scalp, too?

Eat a few match heads the day before you go into the bush. Then you'll sweat sulfur and keep skeeters away.

    Or

Seriously - does anyone know whether this is dangerous or not?

not dangerous. not that bad with a swig of water.

You will actually smell the sulfur in your sweat, btw

Conversely you could load up on garlic, which is high in sulfur, it is good at keeping blood suckers away.
