Personal Experience in Idaho: Take them to your local small claims court. File the suit. They are not allowed to have an attorney present. So the local store manager has to show up. The judge here ruled in my favor. They laughed at this at UPS. The same afternoon I filed a "mechanics lien" against them. Three days later the hearing was held, they also found in my favor. About two hours later a Sheriff's Deputy drove me over, said "pick out something and I will call the numbers in for a warrant." I got the license plate number off of their shiny new shop pickup and the deputy ran a 28 on it (vin check). Fifteen minutes later I had a seizure warrant in hand, and the deputy and I walked in and notified the store manager. He got an attitude, the deputy placed him under arrest for "interfering with a LEO in performance of his duties" and stuffed him in the back of the cruiser. We then got the keys and I left with the truck. They booked the guy, then OR'ed him with an order to report to court two days later. UPS went berserk at the main office in Boise. They went to court, and the judge told them he would drop the charges if they paid me. If not... So they wrote me a check, I went to the bank and cashed it, and we all lived happily ever after. I took the truck and drove it over six hundred miles the day after I got it. At redline in low gear down the freeway. I don't ship UPS anymore, and ask people not to ship to me either with them. I spent three tours of duty in a Ranger Company in Vietnam. When I got out I said that nobody else was ever going to jerk me around again. Ever... Rich

That is an *ss kicking if I ever heard of one. Did you know the sheriff? I doubt I'd find a LEO in this town willing to do that. Isplatu: That's called punitive damages - self administered.
"Revenge", is a dish best served COLD! Personally: I Love it! UPS delivered my order to the wrong address, and said they put it on a porch, then it was a patio.... I have neither. They sent out an investigator. He was confused about the address mix up as well. I lost some $900 in machining tools, and the guy that got them, sold them! I had to cancel the 1st order, as the company tried to bill my credit card twice for the one order, and they had to make it up...That mess remains unresolved to this day. Cancelled my credit card, and made UPS run around in circles for several months. What a piece of work.
Nah, the sugar is too obvious, even though very effective. Engine wear is difficult to pin down, or at least it used to be. I believe it is possible that some US vehicles have factory electronics modules that can record lots of data that is occasionally used to prosecute individuals in fatal accidents. I wonder if they would show engine rpms and the gear the transmission was in? You ever hear the one about the drunk driver going home, unhappy with how fast his vehicle was going, so he shifted into Race. .... seems the transmission immediately self-destructed. .... go figure.
Shoulda parked the truck in Tijuana, and let UPS go down to get it...... or what's left of it........
That's great. I bet a hundred dollars this story will make the rounds of the internet and I'll get it from at least 4 or 5 other people saying they are the ones that did it. Like fortunateson said, I doubt I'd get enough interest from the local LE to get anywhere near the results you did.
Dang, Quigley, just saw this. What a great story. Like others, I doubt I could find anyone in law enforcement or the courts with enough interest to actually get a seizure and force a payment. All the same, nice work. Once in a while the little guy wins big!
