I used to have a 22-250 by ruger and it was very accurate. i had a scope mounted on it also. It was also bolt action.

We bore sighted it in and then got the scope sighted in.

    Having used a 12 gauge , 30-06, m1 carbine, 22 rifle, I liked the 22-250 best.
It was heaver than all the others but when you shot it the round went where you pointed it at.

This in one rifle I plan on having in my kit.

Anyone else have any experience with one of these ?

Those are great little varmint rifles but the problem is that as a SHTF weapon, where are you going to find ammunition? A .223 (5.56 ) has very similar ballistic characteristics and it is the most common caliber in the Country, perhaps the world. Think resupply as the most important criteria in selecting a weapon.

I agree with SC here. I tend to shoot those military popular calibers. Components are plentiful and cheap to stock up on. Ammo is coming down in price again. .223 counts for 1 in 3 rounds made in the US. It's hard to argue that you don't need a .223.

I also had a first-generation Ruger M77 in .22-250. Shot like a laser, even with Remington factory ammo. I got some handloads from a gunshow vendor that were just freaking awesome! I still have a few of his .22 Hornet loads, and I'm trying to duplicate them.
Well, the time came when I realised I really had no use for a varmint rifle, and I needed the money more than the rifle - so I sold it.

Now, I am getting back into hunting, and have even just signed onto a hunting lease - I'd love to have that rifle back! It has a Canjar trigger (I could think 'shoot', it would shoot!), and had been bedded. I used a Simmons scope, but one of the better ones. It now resides on my .22 Hornet rifle.

I still have a few boxes of factory .22-250 ammo. I hope to luck into another rifle one fine day.......

I have a Remington 700VLS in 22-250 that I love, but like some have said already, the 223 makes much more sense when it comes to survival and supply. While you may give up a few hundred fps, the 223s can be just as accurate, and much cheaper to feed.

When it comes that you have to be on the move, weight counts. If you are sitting tight, a bolt gun with heavy ammo makes a lot of sense. In any case, accuracy counts, not the fps. Or so it seems to me anyway. (I have both bases covered, so what I say may not apply. The bolt guns I have are only military accuracy, but that should be good enough for MZBs, and I can cycle the bolt fast enough for 12 rpm with military accuracy.)

The advantage of the .22-250 in a bolt rifle is, you can use a heavier bullet and get that superb accuracy another couple hundred yards downrange. [applaud]
