So..a friend here has gone out of town for a month. She has 4 dogs and shipped them over to her daughters. I tried to tell her what was going to happen, but she wouldn't listen.....

Went in there to feed the fish?? Only 3 days after she left? FLEAS everywhere! My feet were covered from the front door to the tanks and they're in the front room!

I've searched the site and haven't found anything about this...And I'm worried with the fish tanks we're going to have to shut off the aerators and also cover the tanks....But no idea what to use...??

Anyone here ever have this problem and have a really good solution? I"m afraid after a month they will never get out of there! At least it's a small apt....and only 2 bedrooms...Most if it is Tile, and only the BR's have carpet....

    Open to any suggestions......

    Thanks y'all!

If you're going to use any fogger type device, definitely cover the tanks and unplug all aeration devices. If there's anything else living in the space (plants, hamsters) - put them outside. Fog again in 3-5 days, if possible.

Now's a good time to kill everything, while they're gone. Tell the daughter to dip the dogs while she has them.

It's still Summer, in Florida..Hot, Muggy...and in a shut up house with the AC on 86....
I have tried Foggers before and they never worked...But just maybe there's one out there that's new...I haven't had them in years....I keep my pets clean, and use Advantage or Frontline on them...year round. And I take them to the Vet and make sure they're in good healthy....
I love this lady to pieces, but don't think she's quite as diligent in her pet care....Is that a nice way to put it?

Names? Anyone? Anything that worked? Ferris?

    ;)

I have no clue about brands. I have hardwood and Advantage on my pet. I just know how to (and not to) kill fish ;).

If I were to have to shop for foggers; I'd be more apt to go to the farm store than the grocery or drug store. Hopefully, someone else will have a good, really-works brand name for you to use. :)

Being like I am, I'd simply wear boots and continue feeding the fish. It's hard to believe that your friend is oblivious to that many fleas, and may have been hoping you would cure the problem. (But I would give her a heads up as soon as I could. If she wants to put her fish at risk, she can tell you so.)

Here's a good article on flea abatement - Home flea control - We'll start with Indoor Prevention..

My mom used a flea trap once when she had a problem. Worked okay but not as well as advertised. I like the idea of the Diatomaceous earth and the boric acid products. I use the Diatomaceous earth on slug prevention - works great.

A friend moved into an apartment like that once. You could walk into the place and feel the fleas hitting your feet and legs.

They tried everything and ultimately had to burn it down.

    Great.....

I've been to her house many many many times...Never saw a flea on me, or felt one....But when you take the 4 dogs out?? They have nowhere to go...and they breed like CRAZY!

Going to try RH's link....sounds good to me. And if that doesn't work? I'll call her in Delaware and ask for her Credit Card number for an exterminator.....It looked like my ankles were moving, I swear...ugh...and they leave bites that itch so bad you lay there at night scratching.....

I don't really suggest burning it down. :)

Son once brought home a bunch of kittens after the mother had been killed by a car...they were all covered in fleas....soon so was the carpets! I sprayed them with a liquid flea killer/insecticide, waited 24 hours, vacuumed, sprayed and repeated. No more fleas!
I use "ADAMS" plus, flea and tick mist, in the blue bottle. Not cheap, but it's the best I have ever seen for both dogs and cats!
    No problems for many years!

I am gonna second the diatomaceous earth and boxax. Have used both with good results. Have to repeat the treatment (which is sprinkle on all floors, leave 24 hours and vacuum) ... I did it once a week for 4 weeks but that is because I am OCD. :D

Routine treatment is every 2 weeks, in order to kill off any newly hatched buggers.

Be sure and empty the vacuum cleaner bag after each treatment. Also be careful because this stuff will scratch some laminate flooring.

    Good luck!!

    Thank you!

I went there today to feed her fish and OH MY GOD! I had to run out of there..! She had the mother dog, her 2 puppies, and a mixed breed something , in there...and I'm betting every single room is like the living room....that's as far as I got! I had to wash down with the hose and make sure I didn't bring any in to my car so I wouldn't take them home with me.....I've never ever never seen a flea infestation like this!
She has tile floor everywhere except the bedrooms, and they're carpet.....I may just call her landlord.....;)
