You know I have been so firm in my decision to bug in only that I have made no plans what so ever to bug out. Some of that is because at 60 with some medical problems, bugging out is something that just did not seem likely to turn out well. On second thought however it might be smart to have a small cache of food, weapons, ammo, water, etc within a mile or so of my bug in location, as well as a bug out bag. If it became obvious I was outgunned seriously a hasty retreat might be a good idea, with the intent to return with help and or to snipe and or otherwise harrass my former evicters. Just a thought.

    It's a good and doable thought...I like it...I'll steal it... :D

I'm an onery old hag ... Something, errrr.... someONE tells me I would burn the house down and die here before I would leave it behind for someone else. I would like to think I am smarter than that, but he knows me pretty well ... dammit!

my opinion is that bugging out (the preparation of it) is many more times expensive for most. unless you are an apartment dweller, you already have a house. getting a second place , at least the the michigan economy is still cost prohibitive. I can store a lot of stuff here and around the property, can keep an eye on it myself. I've got good neighbors and a few prepper friends with in a few miles.

    so i'm staying put.

I think you might be misunderstanding my intent. I also have several good neighbors and like minded prepper friends I could rally for a counterattack and rout. The cache would be close but not too close and would allow me to beat a hasty and wise retreat if necessary and to return and observe prior to taking the fight back to them. I had no intent to just quit the place.

[slow] No, yeah, I can be remedial sometimes! :D I wish we had several good neighbors, but alas, it is not so. One fella (who can shoot the eyes off a fly) is welcome here but the rest of the neighborhood is on their own.

Unfortunately, if push came to shove, it would be left to me to defend what is here. I got my first taste of being the wife of a LEO on 9/11 -- exactly one month after we married. I have no illusions as to what is going to happen if he is not retired before things go south.

All I can do is prep, wait and pray ... But, that is better than the alternative, which is stick my head in the sand and do nothing.

The secon SHTF happens, I consider myself retired...or self-employed...

LOL You and me both. Wait...I'll be self employed in less than a year. A rancher. Go figure. Back to the ranch for me. I grew up on a horse ranch, went off into the service, got the big city bug. Now I am sick of the city, the people, the scum, and headed back out to where the air is clean and the stars come out at night.

I wonder how many people this is true of. I was a country girl who couldn't wait to get to the city. Came to the city, made my way, rasied my kids, married reasonably well (never been known for doing things the traditional way LOL), and now I want to go back to the country.

My city boy husband has no idea what is in store for him, but he has bought into the notion so I am making hay while the sun shines, as they say!

Bugging in here too. Frankly, I'm more concerned about the .gov coming for folks like us than about losing everything to hordes of refugees. Having read a lot of history, I believe in making a stand, pretty much regardless of the consequences.

If, throughout history, people had stood up to tyranny, we wouldn't have most of our history.

Bugging in... i have a small farm around 30 miles from any big town (25k+) with family around adding cattle pigs, turkeys, chickens, and over 1500 acres to the equation.. at my age with older parents/in-laws/family members depending on me i need to stay here... if necessary I have a second place to head to with shelter water and land but it's closer to one of the towns (5 miles) but i have 2 caches with a few goodies where i can get to them...

I got a strange call last night...
And when I tell you, you'll agree it is STRANGE.....
It seems that the "locals" up north, but some distance from my land/sites ( I now have 3) Have taken to an idea that I will be their "fallback".
In essence, "they" figure "they" will come running to me, to "protect and serve" them and theirs...Oh Joy!
From what I've gleaned about this conversation, that took place between some 9-12 people ( not privy to those all involved), I am the ONE they figure that could save their bacon, IF and when, things get nasty.
Well, I have my druthers, and serious doubts about that!
I for one have NO intentions of trying to: house and feed and protect that many individuals. Now, it would NOT be a bad idea to have many defenders, but they will be leaving their own homes and sites and IF so, that means they are being persued! That's NOT a good thing, not for me anyway!
The people in question have little to no experience in anything much more than "elbow bending the brown bottle"! Not all drink mind you...Up there it's a hobby with many though! What these individuals do not know and do not realize is that I have my own plans, and since I have 3 parcels,... I may NOT be where they think I am, IF and when they come calling!

Did some snooping outside my city and found some small villages around I haven't heard of...Asked around and it turns out that there is plenty of land, even with small houses on them for almost nothing! A square meter for 2-3 euros! I scoped a property on a high hill from where you can see the city on a plate with a small 3 bedroom mountain type house...Now I have to find the owner...

I am not sure what you could do in this situation, but I suspect a lot of us are in the same lake with you. Most of us really don't know who or how many people have in the back of their minds that we would be the one to run to. Our oldest daughter and her husband plan on driving the motor home out here and just parking it on our land figuring that we will feet and house them. Would we ? Of course we would. They are family, but the others, not likely. As far as family showing up, I would just figure we could use the extra hands, and they would have to help a lot. Growing, tending the chickens, cooking and of course guarding. None of them have any knowledge but actually when your hungry , you can learn fast. You have more then enough acreage that you could inspire your closer friends to "homestead" a small area, build a community type farm, and share in all the other responsibilities that would be needed. Do any of them have any skills that might be particularly handy ? Are they young enough that they could be taught ? And most importantly, are they willing to work and learn ? That is my 2 cents worth.

I've run into the same thing. Everyone keeps saying they are coming to find me if something happens and I just ask for their $5,000 deposit so that I can include them in the logistics. They don't know what to say to that and that pretty much ends the conversation. Family would definately be hard to turn away and the work aspect at least makes its doable.

That is an excellent response Cheney, but still in the back of their minds, it is you that they are counting on to keep them fed and warm......
