Gosh. Another piece falls into place. In a press conference last week Obama was not wearing his wedding ring nor his watch.
When noticed, his staff said his ring was out for repairs. No reason was given for the missing watch.

So ? Is it just a coincidence that Muslims are forbidden for wearing jewelry during the month of Ramadan ?

Can't be that, because although he hasn't gone to a Christian church service since entering the White House, till Sunday ...

Just got this in an E--Just friggin unbelievable--even for the kenyan.
Guess who preached Sunday where Pres Obama finally went to church

It was widely reported that the president and his family trekked across Lafayette Park on foot to attend St. John's Episcopal Church. We all thought it was because the polls show that a significant number of the American people see this president as a Muslim and he was trying to improve his image. That's what the media and the White House wanted you to think.

Now we find out that the speaker at St. John's Episcopal Church last Sunday was:

Dr. Ziad Asali, M.D., a Muslim, founder and president of the American Task Force on Palestine, was the guest speaker. He was there to speak on the subject of "Prospects of the two-state solution in the Middle-East."

Dr. Ziad J. Asali is described as "a long-time activist on Middle East issues" who has testified to both chambers of Congress about Palestinian interests, increased U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority, and "Israel's disproportionate use of force" in Gaza.

I am not quite sure why Americans are so obsessed with the personal religious beliefs of the POTUS??? Is the POTUS exempt from or not protected by the First Ammendment to the US Constitution's clauses on freedom of religious belief??? If the POTUS chooses not to wear jewelry or personal adornment, AT ANY TIME then that's his personal and private business.

In Australia we have a childless, unmarried (but with male partner) female self professed atheist Prime Minister, and her Ha Satan is a Catholic former seminarian amateur boxer. (perhaps it was his way of protecting himself from priests who like boys). Australia hasn't gone to hell in a hand basket, indeed, its economy is doing quite well thank you, with its A$ topping the US$ at times in recent weeks (Perhaps no great achievement given the US$'s slide in value).

Perhaps the US needs an atheist head of government to get the country back onto its economic feet.....just a suggestion.

Yes it does make me wonder…..wonder why this thread is in the Faith and Religion forum instead of the Tin Foil Hat Lounge…..it seems that the thread has little substantively to do with faith and religion, and more to do with confecting indignant self-righteous outrage and doing a little grubby ad hominem politicking at your President’s expense. Yep…I can just feel the Christian love oozing through this thread….

Are you seriously suggesting that there is a conspiracy among White House staffers to secretly conceal that POTUS is in fact a Muslim double agent, posing as a Christian….hmmm; Wedding-ring-gate sounds like it has the ring of undeniable plausibility about it (pardon the pun). Yep….of all the possible explanations for the absence POTUS’s wedding ring and watch, that he is a closet Muslim is the one and only credible explanation…ABSOLUTELY!!! It must be so…..just about every loony blogger is saying so…so it MUST be true. *Chello hands -06 a beautifully hand crafted tin-foil hat* you’ve earned it, wear it with pride!

I can’t speak for POTUS, but certainly FLOTUS has been seen several times without her wedding ring, apparently, she chose not to wear her wedding ring, on the occasion of her husband’s inauguration, as well as on several other occasions when she elected to wear alternative accessorised jewellery instead. Tensions in the First Family marriage relationship??? The POTUS consigned to the presidential couch instead of the presidential bed???....I don’t think so. Sometimes, as a fellow Monkey explained to me…. “A banana is just a banana”.

Does the POTUS need a reason for not wearing a watch??? It’s not as if there’s nobody around him that isn’t wearing a watch and it’s not as if he doesn’t have a small army of advisors and minders hustling him around to a time schedule, unless of course none of his secret service agents are wearing watches either. I can’t imagine that the President’s football carrier wouldn’t have a watch, perhaps POTUS is just forgetful about watch wearing, much like Clinton was careless when he lost his “Biscuit” for a couple of months. On balance, I think I’d prefer a POTUS that neglected to have his watch on him, than neglecting to keep his “Biscuit” on his person.

Where did you get this nonsense from??? What are your evidential references for this rather extraordinary claim??? From what I have been able to research, although there are some limitations on what Male Muslims may or may not wear…at any time, let alone during Ramadan, the restrictions upon Muslim females is somewhat less restricting. Although some communities, particularly in very conservative Muslim countries may frown on immodest ostentation in wearing jewellery and adornments, there is no universal ban on wearing jewellery, other than what is declared “haram”.For instance, for males, wearing jewellery made of gold (of any kind) is “haram” AT ALL TIMES”, not just during Ramadan, or especially during Ramadan.

Gold watches are also “haram” to the faithful, though there’s little restriction on any other kind of watch….except possibly wearing a pig-skin wrist-band with a watch which is sure to have the Sharia police frothing at their collective mouths.

Can men wear silver jewellery like rings, chains etc ?

Praise be to Allaah.
With regard to men wearing rings of silver: this is permissible and there is nothing wrong with it. (my emphasis)
Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wanted to send a letter to the Romans, he was told that they would not read any letter unless it had a seal on it, so he took a ring of silver. It is as if I can see it shining on his hand, and engraved on it were the words ‘Muhammad the Messenger of Allaah.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5537; Muslim 2092).
A similar report was also narrated by Ibn ‘Umar (al-Bukhaari, 5528; Muslim, 2091).
Shaykh al-Islam (Ibn Taymiyah) was asked about men wearing silver, and he said:
As for rings of silver, this is permissible according to the consensus of the imaams, for it was reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had a ring of silver and that his companions wore rings. This is unlike gold rings, which are forbidden according to the consensus of the four imaams. It was reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade that. As for wearing silver, there is no general statement that it is forbidden, and no one has the right to say that it is forbidden if there is no shar’i evidence (daleel) to that effect. As the Sunnah permits wearing silver rings, this is evidence that wearing silver is permissible…”

Suggestions for Muslim women concerning wearing Jewellery during Ramadan…..

“…..Accessorise

Uma also suggests wearing scarves, trendy crochet shrugs or chunky necklaces to cover up plunging necklines and bangles and chunky bracelets to cover bare arms. "Rather than wearing many layers of clothing or accessories I would recommend that this is the best time to take out the kaftans, ponchos, full sleeve kurtas, oversize tops and loose linen pants in your wardrobe," says Uma. "You can accessorise the tops with belts. And don't forget to wear your smile and confidence," she adds…..”

The following website lists permissible and impermissible things that a Muslim must be aware of and observe during the Hajj while in a state of ihram. You will note that wearing a ring is permissible. If wearing a ring is permissible during the Hajj, it is doubtful that the same concession wouldn’t be made during Ramadan.

“…Permissible Things

A pilgrim is permitted to do the following things while in a state of ihram:
1. Taking a bath and changing clothes.
2. Covering the face to keep out dust.
3. Wearing shoes (for women).
4. Cupping, opening an abscess, pulling a tooth or cutting a vein.
5. Scratching the head and body.
6. Looking in the mirror and smelling sweet basil.
7. Wearing a money belt on the waist and wearing a ring. (My emphasis)
8. Wearing kohl.
9. Sitting in the shade of an umbrella, a tent, a roof, etc.
10. Using henna.
11. Killing flies, fleas, and lice.
12. Killing the five vicious animals (crow, kite, scorpion, mouse, and rabid dog) and others that are harmful…”

Firstly, Barak Obama, has attended formal church services at least 3 times during the term of his presidency, which makes -06’s statement above, false.

Secondly, who determines what constitutes a “committed Christian”? If regular attendance at church is the criterion, then one would have to conclude that there would be far fewer “committed Christians” in this world than is presently claimed. As far as I understand, one may be a Christian by the act of allowing Jesus Christ into their heart and accepting him as their saviour. There are multitudes of hypocrites who regularly attend church and piously perform the rituals of their faith, who wouldn’t have a hope in Hades of reaching the pearly gates, simply because they don’t “walk the walk”. I know that this may seem strange to say, but to those who believe in God, only Barak Obama and God knows what is within Barak Obama’s heart concerning his commitment to his faith. To those, like you who are carping critics of his spiritual beliefs or his expression of them, all I can say is Honi soit qui mal y pense.

-06, I’m not quite sure what to make of your post, but Forrest Gump would most likely say of it, “…stupid is as stupid does”….

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[IMG]1. Referring to your President as the “Kenyan”…..showing a little racist bias??? Although there have been all kinds of shonky forgeries and weird claims suggesting that he is other than a citizen of the USA, none of them have withstood scrutiny. But hey, if you WANT to believe any and every conspiracy theory about POTUS’s nationality…you have the tin foil hat to wear that will protect you from reality.

2.POTUS and his family attended the 9.am Choral Eucharist at St John’s Church, and listened to the sermon delivered bySt. John’s rector the Revd. Dr Luis Leon. At the conclusion of the service the POTUS and his family departed the church at 10.03am and walked back to the White House.

Dr Ziad Asali apparently did speak at St John’s Church, though he did not speak at the Choral Eucharist service which POTUS attended. Dr Ziad Asali delivered an address at a Forum held at St John’s Episcopal Church Lafayette Square….Starting at 10am. It is not clear where within the Church Grounds the Forum was held….but ringthe Parish office on 202-347-8766 for further details. POTUS was well on his way back to the White House by the time Dr Ziad Asali had probably even opened his lecture notes and cleared his throat to speak.

http://www.stjohns-dc.org/article.php?id=

It would seem that you owe your POTUS an apology for making the false and defamatory inference that he had anything to do with attending an address by Dr Ziad Ali. Being a committed Christian, perhaps you may wish to consider the state of your spiritual health, and repent of the sin of bearing false witness….I understand that the Commandment “…You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour…” is of relevance to your claims against Barak Obama.

In your defence, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you denied Barak Obama, and suggest that you were not motivated by malicious intent, just that you uncritically believed what you wanted to believe from a dubious (Chain?) e-mail, without checking the facts first. Negligently passing on misinformation doesn’t get you off the “bearing false witness” hook though.

Well, don't know where to start so why not start at the beginning.
...."Both these posts seem to exhibit elements of xenophobia and religious intolerance"......
An unreasonable fear of foreigners or strangers--Our constitution requires that the prez be native born-for reasons.
Religious intolerance--This country(unlike your penal colony origin) was basically founded because of religious persecution in other countries. It was not founded by nor molded by muslims whose goal is domination by the sword if necessary.
......, relying on supposition
When one lies continually I "suppose" he will not change.
......, innuendo
Didn't imply anything-He is a liar.
...., misinformation
When one goes to a church for 22 yrs and says he did not know what the "preacher" believed in-he is a liar. When he robs my grandchildren's future to save his buddies financial butts-he is a thief. When he says "I am a Christian" but praises, quotes from the koran, and lies about muslim imput into the world, he is not what he says.
....., assumption of guilt by association
When your presidential campaign is "kicked off" in the parlor of a known terrorist, much of your support comes from "shady" areas, and you highly enlist ACORN to do your dirty work--you are guilty.
...., and the denial of the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise
When the media gets out of bed with him and starts doing what it supposed to, his past records are brought to light, and the full extent of this pillaging of our economic futures comes to light you may have to retract your statements.
I stand behind every statement above in full confidence. The quotes in posts #1 & #2 were from other sources. If you look carefully you will see that they are questions. So now, you know exactly where I stand about the kenyan muzzie loving, socialist posing as our president. And, I know where you stand. We can agree to disagree or continue to spar. After all, it is my country that is in jeopardy and will continue to suffer from poor leadership. His policies are bankrupting the nation, contributing to the rise of muslim populations(and sharia law), and socializing every aspect of the nation possible.
You may put up with being a subject but I for one do not like the idea. Our nation's freedom came at too high a price to let it go. Your country stood by and let the gub take your ability to defend yourself and country away. It will not happen here as long as the precious blood of freedom runs in the veins of true Americans. That word still means much to lots of people here.
