    Any slingshot shooters here?

ive been hunting with one fore more years than i care to remember, suprisingly its still legal here and i regularly hunt with one, provides a fair few meals i can tell you.i take all manner of animals from squirels to geese.

just the other day after a busy afternoon on the coast we got back and i took the dog out with a lamp for a run, heard some movement in the ash tree and shone thelight up,well as it hadnt been long since sunset i quickly shot both, one in the head and one in the flank.

I myself, when I was a younger lad, had a back pocket dedicated to sling shot, and front pocket to good ammunition. When I got older, "Wrist Rocket" sling shots became popular and are markedly deadlier. I recently picked a new one up along with some steel shot and converted a surplus rifle magazine pouch to carry my stuff. Amazingly, a "Wrist Rocket" has sufficient power to drive a steel ball through a car door at 50 feet, and other than the "thwap" sound it makes, is completely silent. I have been target plinking with mine, but now I think I'll be doing some opportunistic hunting on my walks. Thanks for the inspirational pictures, fish!

I have hunted off and on, my whole life wih Flippers. Most of my early ones were wooden framed with flat gum-rubbers and a shoe-tongue pouch. Rabbits in the vegetable garden were my primary prey.
Later, I got wrist-rockets with surgical tubing and that was a vast improvement both for accuracy and lethality. Your 210fps has me thinking about breaking out the wrist-rocket and chronograph this weekend. Those are nice looking flippers you make but I find it hard to believe they are faster than a wrist-rocket.

Buh-BYE, chrony, you were a good companion --.

But seriously, the results of that experiment will be anticipated. [drooling] Don't forget to record the weight of the projectile, the energy will also be interesting to know.

hey seacowboys i would like to respectfully ask that in order to fairly crono the wrist rocket you would need to use the same sized and weight ammo as used in the tests by joerg sprave,15mm steel ball weighing 12 gramms ,it would be interesting to see the reading,i would guess a speed of 170fps.
if you would like a hunter catapult free of charge to test just pm me your address and ille pop one in the post monday.

ps ime not wantng to get any backs up.

Joerg's Cougar looks pretty sweet. Something I have noticed, perhaps you could answer for me Fish...is the fact that all of these bands are attached to the leather pad directly, where the leather only has holes with no reinforcement. Have you found that the leather may rip, or does the band wear out long before that has ever happened? Thanks!

And your own ergo2 Hunter looks pretty darn stable as well. It, as well as the Cougar offer the same fps power (unless I am mistaken), and they are equally impressive (and fully functional) works of art in my opinion.

I'd love to do a comparison on them with the chrono and a variety of different weight projectiles. I have some steel 12mm bearings and some .36 lead balls. I'll PM you my addy and I will also gladly buy one of your Flippers to test; they look like the ones my grandpa used to make me.
I'll make a quick trip to Wally World to see what other projectiles they have. I reload so I have digital scales to determine the projectile weights.

all those years ago I did some hunting and plinking with slingshots and .50 cal lead ball ammo. I took out my fair share of cats back then and it was real fun shooting the trains as they rolled through town, every once in awhile i'd knock the ever-lovin crap out of a bird or a snake. but it has been quite awhile sence i've shot one........Daddies going to get him a new toy.

I purchased two new wrist-rocket type slingshots this evening, one has surgical tube bands and the other has latex tube bands and what passes for Daisy brand slingshot steel ammo. The steel balls are 1/4" in diameter but I haven' weighed them yet. There is a gunshow in Mobile and one in Pensacola tomorrow that I will attend and search out further suitable slingshot ammo. We will have a variety for comparison and I'll take lots of pictures. Box-o-truth, move your ass over!

that "w" slingshot is very Impressive.......I wonder what it will do with a .50 cal lead ball.

hello matey, the leather poches dont rip,i have spent a lot of time testing over 100 grades and types to use,i narrowed it down to the chrome tan stuff i use and the kangaroo leather, the kangeroo leather is utterly ace but far too expensive and hard to get here! the design spec for the hunters is to be as powerfull as a well built chap can pull and be semi disposable in price, you dont want to be chucking a £100 catty in the bushes in a chase!

i have the sole license to distribute the cougars here in the EU and i fit them with the hunterbands as standard, heres another tuber vid you may like of the cougar in action:
