I carry a Spyderco Manix I as my EDC.

If I am in the sticks somewhere or hunting, I carry a 4" fixed blade custom made by Robert Hawk.

I have some "killin" knives. They are USMC fighting types or Chris Reeves one piece design. I put them away the last time I came home. I don't have much need for a 7"+ knife here. Besides, pistols work better ;)

As for a consensus? I think everyone is going to have their own personal preference.
Kind of like asking which is the best battle rifle or best assault rifle. :)

    Anyway, limited knife selection here.

    edc
    couple of leatherman tools
    couple of buck pocket knives

    hunting
    a Gerber chameleon

    crazyness breaks out
a bunch of box cutters/utility knives
and really wicked evil Linoleum Knife
    and a WW2 Japanese Type 32 sword
    and a scythe

if i were to get a new knife it might be the
gerber 06 Automatic Tanto and possibly a Gerber Ridge (money clip style)

Swiss army, carried it for over 25yrs on a chain, 'don't leave home without it'. Also carry a Western belt knife for road kill, happens here all the time, Hey it cost someone a radiator. When camping/hiking ect.. a Kbar. I use the Swiss all the time, funny 'cuz my friends will ask me "you gotta knife?". DUH. Was at a ski patrol Brat roast last year and no one else had one to open stuff up. Had to fly and felt neked w/o one, bought one and gave it away B4 I flew back. Not PC to carry a knife, ha ha.
A blade is a very personal item, to each thier own, have some auto knives, something about that blade whipping out on its own that I find really cool. I have one Kinfolk knife that I found 40yrs ago, oh I love that one, had to make a holster for it, then had to make another, lotta time with that one.

I like the Moro, cheap to buy, long tang, NOT stainless (thus I get a spark when I strike a rock/flint) and easy to sharpen. Anyone here ever get a good edge with a stainless steel knife? I haven't, even with a goog sharpening wheel.

Very alloy dependent. Martensitic is cheap, but will hold an edge if it was heat treated correctly. Austenitic, not so much.

Man I have had so many, the only one I "carry" is my US ARMY demo knife, a Camillus multi blade style.
    I have a 15 inch nasty and a 9 inch on a field belt.
I have Gerber's gator, Case, and a host of others...skinning knives, etc.
It all depends on where I am and the situation.
