Yeah I learned in high school biology that it was algae who was the main air filter, not trees, was right in the textbook. And yet the fallacy continues to persist that trees are the ones doing it. But back to birds and fish, it could just be a natural phenomenon, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is human interference.

Mortality events like this are increasingly growing more common but more often than not... I’ve noticed they’re associated with pesticide poisoning or extreme weather events. The reports of “mushy insides” weren’t making sense to me so…. I ran this one by a veterinary pathologist at Murray State since Kentucky had a similar mortality event that occurred virtually simultaneously, http://wdin.blogspot.com/…. at least the Arkansas and Kentucky mortality events are most likely attributable to folk unwittingly blowing off fireworks at the wrong time of year and day. This same behavior wouldn’t have resulted in a mortality event around the 4th of July because the species impacted would be sitting eggs or providing care for nestlings at that time not congregating in such large numbers. Try to think of your own backyards and what happens when a bird is eating at your birdfeeders and is startled by a stray cat prompting it to fly straight into the side of a building in broad daylight. Now add that this happened when thousands of birds were roosting and that the fight or flight response was triggered… after nightfall when these species don’t generally fly so they would have been beyond disoriented and presto> disaster. Anyhow…. my friend referenced the blunt trauma already mentioned by Witch Doctor. We can do without the highly invasive European starlings…. they’re vectors for WNV but we did take a heavy hit to a native species… the red-wing blackbird…which is a shame.
[FONT=&quot]Broker>Unfortunately…. these “weather” events aren’t exactly picked up by mainstream media, 40,000 crabs join slew of animal-death mysteries - thestar.com, “Now, more than 40,000 Velvet swimming crabs have wound up dead on England beaches. The possible reason? Hypothermia. The Thanet shoreline is littered with the crabs, along with dead starfish, lobsters, sponges and anemones” and 2010 record-breaking year for manatee deaths in Florida » Naples Daily News, “The freezes that started and finished 2010 added up to a record-breaking deadly year for endangered manatees in Florida. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission released figures Wednesday that show 767 manatees died from various causes in 2010, beating 2009’s record of 429… She said the freezes were especially troubling because they were severe enough to kill adult manatees, including females that are crucial to maintaining reproduction rates”. That’s just the tip of the er uh… melting “iceberg” for wildlife mortality events occurring during these catastrophic do-something-quick-fast or we’ll all end up in a dustbowl… under water… or baking in the sun “anthropogenic global warming” times…. tongue in cheek. I know this gets kinda technical but…. if anyone’s interested… non-professionals are encouraged to subscribe to Wildlife Disease News Digest. [/FONT][FONT=&quot]Just remember…. in academia there’s huge pressure to go with the flow and scientists working for the government are even less likely to speak out. They don’t have that security blanket called tenure. Professional scientific societies covered their rears- they accepted the IPCC’s most recent report as gospel with no independent scientific inquiry of their own. Even The Nature Conservancy run by an x-Goldman Sachs exec is deferring to the IPCC’s experts for the sake of funding and “partnering” to the benefit of their “stakeholders” so…. expect to see a huge jump from the GW and climate change bandwagon to the biodiversity bandwagon which just happens to be powered by NASA sanctioned IPCC climate models that just happen to assume anthropogenic global warming.

I have no clue how the Thanet Shoreline where the crabs, starfish, lobsters, sponges and anemones are washing up dead ended up in my post but... it did. Sorry.

But that's impossible because there were no WMDs in Iraq. Remember, it's all about the oil according to your other conspiracies.... [loco]

What to do when you believe in so many "alternate" theories that they start to conflict with each other?

Seriously, I posted this early on in this thread. It's typical CT linking of unrelated events. Make up a story around them to make it plausible and people latch on with a little suggestion.

What makes no sense is how it affected no one else. Unless those birds were flying at 30,000 feet (impossible) and a "malfunction" happened there, causing the residual spray to be blown clear off the continent, this theory holds no water. It's ridiculous.

Weak. You officially suck, Al. [beat]

True: No WMD's were officially located in Iraq at the time of the 2003 invasion.
True: It is always possible that WMD's existed in Iraq, especially since SH used gas to kill off the Kurds....of course, there is still speculation that it may have been Iran -but, WMD's in the middle east is still WMD's.
True: The United States has nearly always, and will continue to proliferate its "enemies" prior to attacking.
True: War = profit for the international corporations, bankers, arms dealers, and weapons manufacturers.

Also true: Al is in denial. Bad people really do work for the secret government. Get used to it. [wannamesswitme]

Weak how? By calling out the inconsistencies? One minute, GWB should be on trial for lying to the American people about WMDs not being found in IZ. The next minute you post something that states that not only were there WMDs, but we obtained them (I guess we can't make our own) and then tested said WMDs on our own soil (as well as most of Europe since the dead birds aren't isolated to one area but more like an area of some 3-4K miles). And magically, without explanation, only birds and one species of fish are affected by this WWI/II gas that clearly affected humans in the past.

No, you are right Broker.... it's the shadow gov't again....

Do you really want to go down that road? Should I post about mustard gas being used on US troops in 2007??

[fnny] Don't be esoteric in your replies. If you can't shoot straight, you're losing ground with me because it doesn't suit the rational mind. If you have something to say, then say it. Otherwise, bugger off and hound somebody else.

    Savvy?

Capische, but there is nothing esoteric. Don't wear it if it doesn't fit, but I think you already knew that. And we are in the TFH lounge, after all, so de-knot your knickers.

Seriously, though. I think we derailed this one enough. Does anyone have anything new for the dead bird issue? Are bats dropping out of the sky now or whales beaching themselves?

Just my .02 worth; birds falling out of the sky and fish floating to the surface is just wrong. I have never seen this in my life time on such a scale and I come from an area that sprays flocks of blackbirds with detergent to make them freeze to death. I have heard nothing about the cause that rings true. I keep hearing that this happens "all the time" don't buy that, it does not.

When you say you've never seen this during your life, are you referring to the recent incident or the incidents in the last 15 or so years?

The reason I ask is maybe you missed this:
Mass bird deaths in history - Google Search

It shows a time line back to the 1970 of mass bird deaths.
