Busting down a pig out of the new cooler

Added an "auxiliary" kitchen this past year to the back of the garage for canning and meat cutting, and used it summer/fall while I gutted the house kitchen. One of the things I put in was a 6x6' walk-in cooler, but just hung the door this summer and left it. Got a 'regular' walk-in door off Craig's list, and then did the walls inside with 2 layers of 2" foam board, and finished with 4x8 sheets of thin, white, fiberglass board on a tile floor with floor drain.

Set a 12,000 BTU Samsung window AC ( 100 bucks/Craig's list ) and got a Coolbot controller so the AC unit will go down to 33 instead of the normal 64 it will cut off without the external controller.

Killed two pigs been raising since Sept, skinned out, and halved....hung halves in cooler yesterday.

Broke one down today. ( I ain't fast, but the bones are pretty clean before they go in the bone barrel... :D )

    Boston shoulder roast:

Buddy ( owner of one of the pigs ) vacuum sealing chops.

Me deboning and cutting into cubes for the grinder:

Same buddy stuffing the grinder, making sausage. My wife on the output end catching it in bags. He put most of his into sausage ( except a few roasts and the loin chops ). Got 87lbs of sausage.

    Finished bags:

Nice pictures and I'm glad you got that extra 'kitchen' / slaughterhouse built. Looks like you're putting it to good use!

Yeah.....may even get the room finished one of these days.

Still lack doors/drawers on the cabinets, been sort busy with the main kitchen and haven't finished up the auxiliary one yet, but I'll get around to it. Done enough for using.

Last spring, cut a hole in the back wall of the garage. Cut a slot in the garage floor for a floor drain that I should have put in 25 years ago when I poured it.

New addition is 12x22. Poured a footer, laid block up to bring up to garage floor level ( lower side drops off STEEP to creek below, about 30' ), built a chimney flue for wood cook stove, poured pad on top.

After pad, framed walls ( lumber off my Woodmizer, from logs here....2x6 walls ). The hole in the back wall between ladders is where the window AC for the future cooler goes.

Framed roof, tied into existing garage roof.

Partitioned inside, cooler on left, walk in pantry storage on right, open room for rest. Added 60amp subpanel ( on wall left ) to take care of this room.

Shot of that side of room, now finished with wood stove installed:

From cooler side of room looking to other side. As you can see, I see lack some stuff. Put a 20 gallon electric water heater out there that I can turn on when we plan to be out there. Also put hose connection on it, and keep 15' of hose in that cabinet so I can hose the whole place down with hot water when we're done.
Sink is a used, 2 compartment deep, commercial sink I found on Craig's List...was free standing, but removed legs, cut hole in counter top and dropped in. Dishwasher was the old one from the house kitchen....still worked fine, but is 10 years old, so we replaced in the remodel there....and moved out here. Even the window is the old house kitchen one...recycled to here....put a little larger one in the house kitchen.

Old, main house kitchen, Ver 1.0 ....you might remember it, Melbo. Did us pretty nicely for the first 25 years, but my cabinet building skills have come a ways since then. I'm all most up to pro standards today...except for the fact I'm slow as cold molasses....ahahahaaa.

Ver 2.0. Added much needed exhaust hood, new counter tops, gas cook top in island ( which was a trick getting the gas line in a concrete floor ! ), rebuilt all the cabinets, etc.

Put wall oven, and cook book shelves where laundry closet used to be.....moved laundry down the wall some.

Moved fridge down to end of counter, ran LED lighting under cabinets, and over head in recess lights.

Rebuilt pantry storage, headed down hall out to the garage.

This outa do for the next 30 years here....be the next guy's problem after that.

Thanks. Bit small for a dream kitchen, but still quite handy. Grinder is a 1hp Weston.....supposed to do something like 300lbs/hr, though I don't know how you'd ever stuff that much down it that fast.

You cut that granite from the back 40? ;)

Next time I'm back in TN, (only once in 3 years now) I'll have to stop by for supper. I'll bring some tea, salt and pepper.
