oregon for me...maybe the southwest quadrant. not too cold, not too hot, not too many people (yet), water, sun, trees.

On the property would be fruit trees, chickens, wells driven by wind, electric, and hand. water catchment tanks, bass / duck pond, a sand pile (to catch lead), blueberries and grapes growing wild, veg / herb / spice garden. maybe a chopper pad for the black helicopters... no?

PV, solar hot water, and various antennae on the metal roof. A 12v setup (wall outlets = cigarette lighters?), wood burning oven, root cellar, DIY library, greenhouse.

Tons of tools in the shop...a still, a chemistry lab.

My nearest neighbors would be... butcher, dentist, deep cycle battery maker, mechanic / engineer, nurse, veterinarian, welder / machinist/ gunsmith, contractor / electrician, surgeon, farmers, blacksmith, bear grylls, and hugh hefner.

Well, at least in theory... which isn't worth much. I'll admit I've cheated off a few of your posts.

Here's the real trick: getting my wife to buy in.

I would like to build into the side of a hill and make a home in it. Near running water. I have two 'brother like' friends and we are developing a 'spot' on some land near a river.
My lady cussed me out this week for buying 40 3 liter bottles of Ozarka water for a dollar each in refillable bottles. One drop of chlorine should preserve them. 40-50 days worth.
She called me paranoid, stupid, and so full of negativity to think that could happen here. She is the handicapped yuppie Patriot Nurse talks about.
When I leave to bug out, I'll leave her some. seesaw

Never mind what she says, if you feel it is right to prepare, then you should do so. I let no one tell me I am crazy or whatever for prepping. They will be very hungry , very soon, as I will NOT feet or house them.

I would like about 10 acres near the outskirts of Vancouver (this is where I grew up)
The climate is good the growing season is long but i'm afraid it will all be underwater soon :p

You and me both...I found what my dream place is when I went there with a friend once a couple years ago. It's a decent spread of land, really out of the way, river runs through it, it's off-grid if I remember right. Anyways, when I got out of the car and looked around, the place was just beautiful to me. I felt...I felt like I was home. And the only way I could ever afford to buy that place from current owners is if I won the lottery. I hope if I did they'd sell it to me though. If I had that place I'd never sell while I was alive, and have it in my will that my heirs couldn't sell it either.

Ah my wife buys into it already, and lo the perfect place for us would be - An earth sheltered home with reinforced concrete walls - bullet resistant windows and of course FAR off the "beaten path" with water, wood, fertile soil, and plenty of room to stretch out.

How many people out there wishing to move/buy a bol would have the skills to power their place, farm it with primitive means and in other words sustain with their current rate of knowledge ?

Nearly none.....which is why I've always said "bugging out" in time of a real, long term SHTF situation won't work. The only thing your BOL will do is let you starve over a longer period of time, in relative peace :D

What a person should do is move to their "BOL" today, while they can still make up their inevitable mistakes made while learning, by running to the store as a backup plan.

SOMEday that luxury may not exist.

It takes years and years to learn to live even halfway sustainable.

Well, I for one would not NEED power. Not that I want to become Amish or Luddite. As long as power can be generated (in my case with a Lister or Listeroid genny set), I would be perfectly happy to keep my animals, raise my heirloom seeds, and shoot trespassers who did not give the approved "high sign" to let me know the are not aggressive foes.

Well, just one little question though, where will you get your fuel after the first 6 months or year ?
