More than likely those that sent the items either knew or thought they would be and were just "testing the system". With our "wide open" southern border who knows what's come across there.
Yeah saw that on Facebook a few days ago. I'm not surprised at all, YEARS ago, forget what channel, but there was a TV news mention of (sea)ports not being secure enough. Less than 1% of the cargo containers are ever inspected if I remember right. But we shouldn't focus on that, because unlike airports, they can't take away people's personal/civil rights by searching the containers.
I was home at lunch time one day last week and saw them advertising a story on Fox News similar to that but wasn't able to stay long enough to watch it. Obviously some "things" are strreaming in through our porous borders.
Ain't it though? I have 2 thoughts 1) the .gov is not saying anything out of fear that it would create panic that these items are being found. Better to keep the masses in the dark about what is going on. 2) This guy was told to say these things, along with the off camera lady, in order keep the rouse the they actually were stopping these things and it's a way to keep the dept. funded.
Sounds like talk about the sheriff's department here. They cut the jail space in half(funding cuts), and now after the citizens are fed up with the crime, they are talking about new funding options like taxes and such. I think funding is not the problem myself. We got some punk kids in our neighborhood who have broken the law a few times, and after WEEKS of calls about them to the sheriff's department, they finally decided to do something about it and get the ball rolling to arrest them, now they're not. They wanted us to set up a neighborhood watch. I don't get why that is supposed to be a solution, if we see something illegal, still gonna have to call the sheriff anyways. And when our house was broken into several times(somehow they knew when we were out for the day and did it then) 2 or 3 years ago, never took anything that we know of, just slashed mom's feather quilt, beat the dogs, took a hammer or something to the front door knob, and trashed my room, we made an official police report, in June/July, and the deputy who took the report said he'd come out to our place and do a follow-up. And he did. The next FEBRUARY!
My question for you is why you are trying to put the responsibility back on the Sheriff. YOU are the first responder in ANY situation involving "you". The Sheriff is nothing more than a deterrent backed by law enforcement rights and a post event "cleaner upper". If I were you, I would be demanding the power to take care of business yourselves. hint hint.
That was actually kind of my point. Sheriff obviously isn't gonna protect us, they as you mentioned are 'after the fact', so why should we have to pay more in local taxes/fees for something that we don't use? Might as well pay taxes/fees for people in Greenland to have free taxicabs. I know it's up to me to defend my family/rights/property. I got plenty to accomplish that, and my next door neighbors are the same.
Yep, when you have seconds to make a decision; The police are just minutes away. Sheriff told my folks at a 'seniors meeting' that they should arm themselves and to call them when it's over. They live in the middle of freaking nowhere. Ok State police post is 10 miles away, but they are busy giving speeding tickets to tourists. Local sheriff is in town 8 miles away dealing with in town mischief. They are kind of on their own for the first 10-15 minutes. And that can be a long 600 to 900 seconds. So if the sheriff is telling them that, wonder what that means. I told them to get a gun and go practice. As for why we pay taxes, hopefully if you kill the intruder, they will clean up the bulk of the mess. If by some miracle and grace of God they survive, They can provide housing for the intruder until they succumb to their wounds or those inflicted upon them by their cell mates.
Well out here, unless the sheriff is nearby on another call, expect around an hour for them to get here. At the meeting with the deputy and the neighbors, the deputy really wouldn't say that we all have the right to defend ourselves without getting locked up, which is why I think the kids got off. That wouldn't stop me from standing up for my rights, but the couple the kids threatened, they're elderly and frail, the wife is on oxygen and just got diagnosed with breast cancer, husband isn't much better off. Rude part is the kids won't try their sh*t with me(downside to having fun on occassion by making people think you're a bit psycho). And does anyone here know if it's true that you can't cite constitutional law in court, only case law?
No swamp, but there's a creek down the hill. Oh and I should mention that whoever was breaking into my house, I think I surprised them once, was home alone doing yard work, and 2 guys were coming down through the neighbor's property to a gate between ours, and looked startled to see me there, and asked some weird questions. I started chopping/splitting firewood next to the gate and I think they got the message. Women aren't supposed to do firewood my fat 'white'...well you get the picture.
