Any sales coming up? Specifically on Mountain House?

Uh not that I am aware of, as the last word I got was that they are way behind and only distributing to their best sellers. One "rumor" was that the gubers had taken all they could get in one fell swoop...I have heard this before, but who knows?

Hi Magnus. We do plan to still have three sales this year--25% off can cases. However, as you may know, MH food (as well as every other major emergency food supplier) has been overwhelmed with orders over the last several months due to a surge in demand that has to be described as panic buying in this market niche. MH is so locked up with backorders that they have had to take draconian measures to try to work thru them (to include whacking 92% of their dealer network to try to reduce orders coming thru).

Bottom line--at this point, the best we can hope for is sometime in the summer when things may be more under control. But I suspect it will more likely be fall when MH's new production facility is done that we will be able to throw open the floodgates and conduct a sale. Our sales always bring in levels of orders that by themselves jam up MH for weeks.

Point of interest: Did you know that MH produces 60% of the freeze dried food in America? They aim to double their capacity by fall, after coming to the conclusion that the current situation is no anomaly.

Not true about the government. This current panic buying is 100% civilian driven. I was, for one, sounding the alarm about 6 months ago when all hell broke loose in our industry. Demand is absolutely berserk, and every week it gets a little worse (or better--demanding how you choose to look at it.)

Terror threats rising as FEMA orders $1 Billion in dehydrated food - National Finance Examiner | Examiner.com

Terror threats rising as FEMA orders $1 Billion in dehydrated food
Terror threats appear to be on the rise as FEMA has rushed a $1 Billion order of dehydrated food in the event of attacks on domestic targets in the US.

This is also coming on the heels of one of the largest terror drills performed by the US Navy on American soil, as Operation Solid Curtain is taking place this week.

In an article Tuesday from the Beaufort Observer, many of the largest suppliers of dehydrated foods in the country are dropping their distributors and customers to dedicate their resources to supplying a billion dollar FEMA request and purchase.

One of the nation's largest suppliers of dehydrated food has cut loose 99% of their dealers and distributors. And it's not because of the poor economy. It's because this particular industry leader can no longer supply their regular distribution channels. Why not? Because they're using every bit of manufacturing capacity they have to fulfill massive new government contracts. Look, the government has always been a customer of the industry to some extent. But according to our sources, this latest development doesn't represent simply a change of vendor on the government's part. It's a whole new magnitude of business.

    And that's not all.

Apparently, even though they've cut off their regular consumer markets, the industry leader I've just mentioned still can't produce enough survival food to meet the government's vast requirements. How do we know? Earlier this month, FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) put out a Request for Proposal, or RFP, for even more dehydrated food. The RFP called for a 10-day supply of meals - for 14 million people. That's 420 million meals. Typically, FEMA maintains a stockpile of about 6 million meals. Why the sudden need to increase the stockpile by 420 million more? (And that's in addition to whatever our aforementioned industry leader is supplying.) It almost seems like they're trying to stock a modern day "Noah's Ark," doesn't it?

Single functions or events such as FEMA requesting a purchase of survival food might not stand out as peculiar when it is their responsibility to ensure they are mission ready for unforseen events in the US, but couple this with other pieces of the puzzle, such as the Navy drill of Solid Curtain, which is intended for:

...nationwide "drill" involving all military, and it's a drill based on a severe terrorist attack.

and the public had best be aware of something major potentially occurring on our soil in the near future. Global events across the world such as the revolutions and protests, the rising spike in oil, the falling dollar, food shortages, and unrest in Wisconsin and Ohio, are bringing us to the point where crisis may take place, whether from domestic or foreign sources.

Terror alerts have been raised by FEMA in the past month, and this new special order of dehydrated food, at the magnitude of $1 Billion dollars in taxpayer money, should be a call for everyone to prepare on your own for any potential crisis.

Actually, you'll find my comment at that linked article. The Examiner sites are not usually worth the pixels it takes to project them.

In this case--the author had a few rumors and old near-facts mixed up and tried to put it all together into a conspiracy that would get some attention.

Really--I think the truth is far more interesting--that real people all over North America are diving into preparedness feet first. I'm telling you--it's absolutely beyond belief the way there has been an ongoing, ever-growing deluge of panic buying from people across the spectrum. And from where I sit--it is especially noteworthy how folks with a little, to more than a little money are throwing it all at once into an effort to get fully stocked up by yesterday.

It's those huge orders for food that are coming in continuously that are doing the most damage jamming up Mountain House.

your right, people are finally waking up! I have talked with tons of folks who now see ( like me) craps coming and its going to be life changing. I my self woke to the reality of this in january and started preping right away. I have done ememrgency essentials and there backed up 3 weeks and more . Its time to get the goods and hunker down for whats coming, I my self ordered 16 more #10 cans of powdered milk and 18 more pounds of hashbrowns and tools this week again. ( they are having a sale LOL )

So if they make 60% now and they double capacity then they'll be making 120% of the freeze dried food in America? [LMAO] That should solve the supply problem.

Seriously, when I talked with them two years ago during a similar shortage, they said that the capital investment required to increase production wasn't even close to being worth it. I bet they wish they'd gone ahead and expanded the plant back then...

I have to clear something up here since I misstated something. I spoke with Melanie at MH this past Friday again and got more detail on the production expansion ...

They are NOT building a new facility after all, as yet. That is on their radar now though. What is going on is expanding the capacity of their current facility with some new equipment and modifying/upgrading their present equipment.
