What it is actually, is getting close to the edge of civility.

Don't assume. And if you want to banter back and forth, send me a PM. This forum is not meant to be used for personal attacks and getting kicks from insinuating, sizing up, and insulting others.

    Thanks for coming out.

A false premise would result in a false conclusion. This would normally be thought of as an error in logic rather than a lie. That sentence doesn't really make any sense.
I am military, active. I feel that I am more able to comment on today's Marine Corps (not other branches) than a retired SgtMaj. I know what is going on today, and Brokor's descriptions are wrong. Plain wrong. To build on your belief that someone who once worked for an agency would know more than someone who never did, someone who currently works for an agency would likely know more about its present state than someone who once worked for that agency. Surely this is obvious. No assumption was made, I read what he wrote.
It shows the false premise, which renders invalid the conclusion. The whole tenor of the article is conspiratorial, which begs the question of intent.
I disagree fully with your understanding of the article and refer you to the thesis statement.
Something averred without supporting evidence would generally be considered to be an understanding of fact. Moreover, not all opinions have equal moral or logical value. Also, some opinions are wrong. “I like chocolate” would be an example of an opinion that cannot be refuted whereas “People should do whatever each thinks is right” is an example of an opinion that is easily refuted. Finally, you proffer opinion to refute not only my opinions, but also my statements of observed fact, yet I believe you to be untrained in logic and critical thinking rather than lazy.

I can only speak to that which I have observed. With LEOs, I have observed about a 50-50 split. I reserve judgment and maintain my armory.

Ultimately, I agree that there will be some in military and law enforcement who will do whatever they are told (note the Nuremberg trials). Some will be those of moderate intelligence, some will be conditioned, and some will be willing. But absent a societal acceptance of the fundamentals that gird these orders of which we speak, there will not be enough who follow them to form a critical mass. Therefore, whatever the military and law enforcement do is merely a reflection of society writ large. Military and law enforcement, remember, come from society. And regardless of what the movies show, neither is very good at indoctrination or "brainwashing". Perhaps in the future someone will come up with a method that works, but so far nobody has.

Gentle hints didn't work too well, so this thread is done. Anyone that wants to continue offering opinions and guesses is welcome to start another thread. This thread will remain up for reference, but is locked.

I could engage in verbal and intellectual sparring with you all day long but it serves no purpose and my ego does not require it. I simply refer you to the opening page in F&L forum and look to the bottom right under the heading "Moderator".

It is my job to try to diffuse threads that are starting to smoke and to subtly if possible douse any sparks before they become flame. But at times it takes more of a full out hosing to extinguish.

This thread is veering off topic and bordering on incivility and I won't allow that. You made your case, Brokor made his response and that is the end of it. Henceforth I will edit out anything that is not directly addressing the topic at hand in this thread. Anything remotely personal will be deleted. And if the thread cannot continue without the vitriolic verbiage then it will be locked.

It seems that Ghrit has a lower tolerance than I.
