New Microsoft campaign to kill IE 6 and advice for users stuck on old PCs. IE6 Countdown I've spoken to some here at the Monkey that claim their PC is too old to run Firefox or Chrome. Here are a couple of extremely lightweight Modern Browsers that should be fast and efficient for older systems. K-Meleon TheWorld Browser I have tried both of these. I prefer the page rendering of K-Meleon but the options and controls of the TheWorld Browser (It has Tabs!). They are both extremely small downloads and you can test both to see which one might work better on your system. Make sure you unselect "Make Default Browser" while installing K-Meleon for a test. **Note: TheWorld Browser seems to be hosted on a very slow server and the download is quite slow. Then again, if your reading this, maybe you experience the Internet at this speed and won't notice
They just found another security flaw in IE this week. It's a dinosaur. OR, did Bill leave the Gates open on purpose? It has fueled a huge IT business, and I'm sure the government Sunstein hackers love it.
I find chrome to be a superior browser in every way. At first I didn't like it.. but now, I won't use anything but.
I have not used Internet Explorer for quite sometime, seems that Firefox is the preferred browser around here. I have never tried Chrome.
back it up or stop with the misinformation. All I've ever seen has been tracked back to some "guy and his blog". I work in the software field and I have a hard time swallowing a lot of this type of garbage. The only thing Google is guilty of is trying to force people's private lives into to the public. Software collusion has yet to be found in any of its OPEN SOURCE code. Believe you me, if ANYONE in the software (OSS) community detected a hint of anything like this, it would be game over for google. There are many people working on the project that are not American.
» Google Comes Under Fire for ‘Secret’ Relationship with NSA Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind! http://www.pcworld.com/article/188581/the_googlensa_alliance_questions_and_answers.html If you trust nsa, then it's ok.both nsa and google promised to be nice. your browsing, your choice.i stated my opinion.
Seen source code? Debugged source code? No? you say.. thought so. None of those articles cite any anything but "some guy with direct knowledge". Really? also, the pcworld article clearly lays it out.. NSA has no authority to investigate while DHS does. I've seen no empirical proof here, just a bunch of "suggestions". Well ****, I could suggest that this website is in collusion and I can become "that guy on the internet" who said so. What makes you so sure that FireFox isn't doing the same thing? or the myriad authors of plugins you use? Get me some source code and prove the allegations or cease spreading mis-information.
lol..i don't see what your problem is? i'm not spreading misinformation, i'm just giving my opinion and why i don't use chrome. i don't care what you use, and people here are not children. anyone can make their own minds about what browser they want to use and what info or misinfo they want to believe. after all, if there is something fishy, guys in US would be the ones to suffer, not me.peace!
you made a clear and direct statement " too much cia-nsa stuff in it ". That's an assertion of fact, not opinion. My problem is that I keep hearing crap like this without any empirical evidence to prove this. I will throw you this bone, that google, the COMPANY, as well as many other software vendors that are international, have ties with the NSA by law. Things like google mail (g-mail) are known to have access to the system by the NSA, by law. But the unfounded assertion that their browser has some back door code for the gov't, while not out of the realm of possibility, has not been proven to exist. Once and when that is proven, I will be on board with anyone looking to boycott its use. Otherwise, stuff like this just serves to enforce paranoia. If you really want something to make you think, see this: http://www.zdnet.com.au/openbsd-has-fbi-backdoor-contractor-339308038.htm As for Windows 7, I'm HIGHLY suspicious of these claims as well... especially having worked for the man that practically wrote the book on Windows Security.
as you wish.you keep waiting for empirical evidence.usually, by the time that evidence surfaces, it's already too late.just like those terrible wmd's in iraq, or like vaccines.personally, i'm not waiting, nor do i care for their evidence.i have multiple choices,so i'm using them.if i have suspicions, i steer clear.
I would just like to NOTE, here: This is the same rational that the Man-Made Global Warming folks used to spread their BS...... and "We have to pass this bill, to see what is in it"... BS
GO for it. I encourage you to do so. Just make sure you clearly state your opinions instead of trying to assert facts where there aren't any.
From the simplistic point of view of somebody that does not have much knowledge on the technical aspects of what you are speaking of. If the CIA or NSA is truly watching us through one web browser, I would imagine .gov would be doing the same with all web browsers. You guys (BTPost and UGRev) might as well just give in and admit you are wrong. sarcasm intended
are you saying that you would also allow your children to receive vaccines even though there's no "solid empirical evidence" that they can cause all sorts of very bad problems? ok. your choice. i'm wondering, if i get this much fire from people here over an opinion on a lousy browser, what will happen if someone dissagrees with me over someting more serious? instant ban? expulsion? no problem. i wont post anything else and either go back to lurking or leave completely. my best to all.
So, calling you out and asking that you back up your statements is receiving fire from members. Dude, you need to grow a thicker skin. One thing you will not see here is being banned for expressing your point of view. Disagreements happen all the time amongst many of the members here. As long as it is kept civil and there is not any name calling, the discussions are allowed to take their course.
He wasn't banned for expressing his view. He was banned for being a reincarnation of a formerly banned member.
I will answer this question, since it has a DIRECT bearing in MY LIFE..... I have an Autistic Grandson, who is now 13 years old, and doing High School and Advanced Placement Math and Science in Middle School. He is a JOY to have around, but he will ALWAYS be Autistic. He diagnosed at 18 Months., and his mother, my oldest daughter, and my wife, (an RN, and alaskachick on here) learned everything that was available on his condition and started a 18 Hour/Day Early Intervention Routine, and worked with him until he entered Kindergarten. Then my daughter learned everything that the FEDs Required School Districts to provide for Special Education students, and worked to hold the School District to those REQUIREMENTS, for her son. She got so good at it, that she was appoint to three successive Governor's Council for Special Education, in our State, and then moved her family to Texas, where they had better Programs for her son, when he entered Middle School. Did the MMR shot he got at 6 Months cause this? No way of telling, PERIOD... Look at the Research... The REAL Research, not the Propaganda, Hype, and BS, that floats around, on the Internet. Read the Peer Reviewed Journals, and look at the creditability of the guy who first postulated this connection. Then you can decide for yourselves which way to deal with your family, and children. My wife, the RN, did just these things, as well as ALL my children, and they ALL have had their children vaccinated with the MMR Vaccine. We read and made our choice, and you can do the same, if you really want to know.
Wow! If I didn't have a limit to 10 options in this poll, I'd add WinBlows and/or if/then sucks, NSA (dis)trust, the Google Behemoth and Vaccination to the mix. Maybe even toss in a picture of a chicken clucking and a link to my favorite zombie game as well as a few re-runs of The Office and my recommendation for a good blend of coffee to pair with any of the above. Maybe web browsers are too sensitive to discuss here? Bane had a way of doing this to threads and thats why he was banned a second time. It's not a vote against argument, it's a vote against being argumentative about everything in every thread. I may clean this thread up or lock it or both.
