CNN) -- This time it was the intruder who called 911.
A man who broke into a house in Portland, Oregon, called police -- afraid the homeowner may have a gun.

The suspect, Timothy James Chapek, was in the bathroom taking a shower when the homeowner returned to the house Monday night, Portland police said in a statement.

Accompanied by two German shepherds, the homeowner asked Chapek what he was doing in the house.
Chapek locked himself in the bathroom and made an emergency call, police said. He said he had broken into the house, the owner had come home, and that he was concerned the owner might have a gun.
The homeowner also called the police to report that he had found a man in the house.

Police with dogs took Chapek, 24, into custody "without incident," they said. He was booked for criminal trespass.
They did not say if the homeowner did in fact have a gun.

    way to go!

that, or the Darwin Awards... if the homeowner was armed, and the intruder decided to take a powder....

Dude needs better security habits. The other guy who broke in to take a shower was not too bright. Nice to see the cops didn't shoot, arrest, or "charge" the homeowner with a crime.

With all the Kalifornians moving North, Oregon, and the Portland to Salem area, are the second most liberal area, on the left coast... I think to folks on the Rogue River should put up a fence to keep the loony liberals to the south...
    YMMV...

"He was booked for criminal trespass."

The story said he "broke in". Criminal trespass is a long way from B&E in most states. I don't know about Oregon, but where I live, B&E is a felony and gets 5 to 10 (not to mention possible extreme prejudice by a homeowner exercising the castle doctrine), while trespass is a mere misdemeanor and a fine at most.

When I was a boy, there was a small community called "Sadie Lou" just outside Jackson, Tennessee. There was a gun shop there owned by a friend and his extended family made up the lion's share of the rest of the community. The alarm system in the gun shop was wired to all of their houses. One evening, the alarm went off and they found that some Bangers had driven their deuce and a quarter through the front window and was in the process of loading guns into their trunk and back seat. The last surviving Banger called the Sheriff on the store's land line and pleaded that they come save him from the rednecks with the guns. When the Sheriff finally got there, there were bodies stacked up outside like cord-wood.

Actually Seattle/Tacoma is more liberal but the area you speak of in Oregon is not far behind.

There are a lot of dumb criminals out there, they must be the product of today's educational system.

I read an online news report a few years back of a guy who broke into a house, helped himself to the fridge, then fell asleep on the couch. He was awakened by the police, called by the surprised home-owner!

Here in sunny Florida, "Tresspass with a gun" is a third-degree felony. We've had guys arrested for that after coming onto our posted hunting lease to poach deer.

When it happens I'm in on the pass party. Just remember to also take Ashland out as long as the pass to it.

It gets better after being released in Portland he stole a BMW from a Portland car lot and drove to Chehalis Wa. He then went into Walmart at 2 in the morning an loaded a shopping cart. The always vigilant Walmart employees thought him suspicious so they called the police. Our hero then exits thru the fire doors and is caught in the parking lot loading the loot into the stolen car. Last I heard he is a resident of the Lewis county jail.

Hey wait a minute, I'm over here. How about if we say the safe area over here is north of Ashland, south of Eugene and where Tracy and Colt live?

Although it turned out well, my dogs would not have been as accommodating to a stranger in the house.
