Ok maybe not. But I did have a hell of a good time tonight. Looky what I built. First time i ever built one. No extra parts left over. AR15 20" Chrome lined chamber and bore 5.56cal HBAR Chromed Carrier and bolt A2 with M4 4 position buttstock All bench function test checkout. I'm stoked. Thank God for Daylight savings time. I might get to test fire one of these weeknights.
Good looking basic no frills battle rifle. I got a kick out of the safety/selector lever settings. If you don't mind my asking (total novice on building your own here), how much did it all set you back? . We all here at Monkey want a range report as well. ....
The lower was a special (I got a real low # out of the 100 made). I paid 125 for the lower. The upper and parts kit was from Model 1 sales. 611 delivered. So I'm into it for 736. I probably could have saved maybe 50 bucks If i got a no frills lower. But these were a special run just for a .org i belong to. yes it is a no frills basic rifle. I couldn't see dropping on all the rails, lights, switches etc. Instead I went with the chrome line barrel and chamber and the chromed Bolt Carrier Group. I went with the 20" HBAR but this thing is now nose heavy for the rifle sight radius. Where as the carbine has a shorter sight radius, and well, every little bit is gonna help. But now that I have a completed lower, i can pick up different uppers for different situations, but I'm good with the one i got. I just want a stick to go bang when i pull the trigger. I do however have one goodie for it.
The "basic no frills battle rifle" quote was in no way meant to be a put down. I like the NOD you obtained as well. Nothing like being able to see in the dark! Excellent package!
Oh no, I didn't take it as a put down. I picked up the NOD at an auction over the summer. I decided well, it's got a mount for an AR, guess i'll have to build one. So that's what happened. I bought it with the completed upper assembled and head spaced to the bolt. I don't have all the tools to be an armorer so, all i had to do was build the lower and pin it together. I've got a wooden hammer that makes it nice for not marring the lower. Only put one scratch in it doing the Bolt Catch. Damn! But compared to some of the others that got assembled from these lowers, I'm happy with outcome.
Nice Job Big Vis. I like it, now I'm going to have to try it. See what this old redneck can throw together. I'm going to start looking around for parts so wish me luck.
I used the brownells website and their GunTech : How to Build An AR-15 Video - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools - BROWNELLS With those vids i was able to assemble the lower and get 'er functional.
wait a minute; putting a rifle together out of parts is more fun than sex? You odviously aren't doing something right.
