Not sure this is the right forum,, move if needed.

I'm either hiking in Estes Park, Colorado or will end up near Jackson Hole again in May. I'm going to try to do more all day fly-fishing and need to lessen my weight - will be carrying waders, food, etc. I've been looking for a good straw filter.

Also, it doesn't look like any of them really kill viruses, is that necessary for the USA or is bacteria and giardia enough?

They don't protect agains many of our protozoans like giardia and cryptosporidium. so may be of limited use... better than nothing i'll grant ya but i would still rather use the AquaSafeStraw it seems to have a better track record...

I recently ordered this one for my husband's birthday:
    Aquamira Frontier Sport Filter

It hasn't been put to use yet, but it has the same core as the Black Berkey filters so I felt safe going with it.

I'm trying to find lifestraws for sale. I can't find them online, I called cabelas and bass pro and local sports world. I've been to several other forums today asking around. If anyone knows where to get one please post it or message me.

    thanks

According to their own website, the Lifestraw is sold as part of a humanitarian entrepreneurship, but you can contact them for retail sales in your region (linked for you).

I think you would have better luck with one of the products already listed in earlier posts, but do let us know how your request turns out! I did find a site that sells them, but I am not sure how reliable they are: http://www.eco3.co.za/lifestraw_water_purifier.htm

I called, thank you. They said "maybe" for sale soon in the USA but couldn't say where.
