If you live under a rock, you may not have noticed this latest "prediction".

You can read about Harold Camping's prediction here:
The End of the World As We Know It? Prediction of Saturday 'Rapture' is Fuel for Faithful, Doubters - FoxNews.com

Harold Camping came to this prediction from reading 2 Peter 3:8-
    Source: JUDGMENT DAY

2 Peter 3:8 is often taken out of context. Here is a passage from a sermon preached in 1862:

    Source: http://www.spurgeongems.org/vols7-9/chs447.pdf

What Rev Spurgeon was arguing then was the interpretation that throughout the Bible, days are actually = 1,000 years. It's easy to misread what was written if you take that single verse out of the context of who Peter was writing to and what was going on with the early Christian church at the time.

Here is a few more verses for more context:

In context, what Peter is saying is that the Lord is patient. Patient for the purpose of trying to save more of His children before the end. This is clearly different than a prediction of time.

There is another aspect of this. Read Matthew 24:36-
Harold Camping knows no more about when the end will happen than you or I. The scripture is clear in this regard. Rev Spurgeon addressed the misinterpretation of this verse nearly 200 years ago. Here we are seeing the same thing again today.

    Thoughts?

The Jewish wedding was a fore shadowing of the 'rapture'. I wonder if Camping will stand still for the stoning that is for false prophets of GOD. He has said the same type of thing in the past and hasn't been stoned (with rocks) yet.
There is the other side of the coin, what if he is right?
Sorta spooky stuff but nothing really new. The Millerites sold all thier stuff and wore robes on a moutain and nothing happened except they were poor the next day.
I do believe that the SDAs came from this.
Gotta go, batt is dying, will continue later, maybe if I am still here.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why anyone still tries to predict Jesus' return. Matthew 24:36 says it all. Not even Jesus knows the exact date of his return- only God. It can't be that hard to understand, it is translated into (the King's) english for us so many years ago.

Trying to predict it is futile, and taking your time and energy away from what you should be doing- praising and worshiping God.

I think the only one "leaving" will be Camping and his core followers who are keeping an eye on the millions they have in donations.

How do you think Camping's followers feel right now? He was "guaranteeing" that this was going to happen. He claims the Bible guarantees, but it really was his twist on the Bible. They are all Christians. Now they are broke, humiliated, and their faith is shaken...

I guess there is the chance that they are such blind followers that they will buy whatever excuse he makes this time. I have been waiting on a statement from the group.

    What do you guys think?

This is a problem that has faced believers throughout history. People who want to interpret the scripture. Scripture interprets itself where needed and in most cases is crystal clear. It means exactly what it says. Instead of understanding scripture it is mans folly to try and make scripture fit his understanding.

"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
Behold, I have told you beforehand.
If therefore they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the wilderness; Do not go forth: Behold, he is in the inner chambers; believe it not
    ." Mathew 24:24-26

"But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, neither the Son, but the Father only." Matthew 24:36

"Watch therefore: for you know not what day your Lord cometh." Mathew 24:42

"Therefore be ye also ready; for in an hour that ye think not the Son of Man cometh." Matthew 24:44

    And one of my favorites;

"Jesus is coming! Everybody look busy!"

Predicting Christs return is folly and we are told not to do it. IF this guy was a true student of God's word he would know that and would not do anything to shake the faith of his followers. One day these types of false prophets will stand before the judgment throne of the almighty and I pity them that day.

"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do mighty works?
And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
    " Matthew 7:22-23

Interesting but not as memorable as waking up on 1/1/2000. :D

Even an inaccurate prophecy can hit the mark!

It just goes to show, that failed prophets can still accrue great profits.

Family: Man shot for mocking co-worker's rapture beliefs

Originally printed at Family: Man shot for mocking co-worker's rapture beliefs | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | KOMO News | Local & Regional
By Associated Press June 28, 2011 EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - The motive in a workplace shooting in Eugene is reportedly the ribbing one employee took from a co-worker after the predicted May 21 rapture failed to occur.
The mother of the victim told The Register Guard that her son said Dale O'Callaghan took it personally when he was needled about his belief that he would be taken to heaven by the return of Jesus Christ.
O'Callaghan is accused of shooting Jerry Andrews on Friday at LHM Hydraulics, where they worked. Andrews suffered a fractured shoulder.
His mother, Robin O'Brien, says her son didn't want to speak with a reporter about the shooting, but she said O'Callaghan had expected to be taken up in the rapture.
The 39-year-old O'Callaghan is being held in the Lane County Jail on an assault charge.

I cannot bring myself to laugh at Harold Camping and this whole thing. I don't think he was a false prophet either, I think he was just misguided. This is all probably why God isn't going to tell us or anyone else the date... just think of how everything would map out if we really knew when he was coming.

And this woman who lost "her" inheritance? It wasn't her money to lose. It was her aunt's money. I don't get why people don't get that. She got 25k which was more than I've ever had in my life and she still has to complain about it. Boo hoo.

I'm just saddened by the children who were hurt. These little children aren't going to hell. Why in the world would their parents think.... that's just sad. What did their parents think they were saving their children from? The Glory of God?
