Well Mongo, Come on down.... Mr. Bear is just waiting for Mongo to show up and give it a GO.... He is a very nice Spring bear right now, and would make a real nice rug.... and if you think he is big, you ought to see his Blond Daddy.... Close to 500 Lbs..... Looks like a Griz but is just a Cinnamon Bear....

Good to see that you have nice neighbors that don't mind having you there. Notice how I said that "don't mind having you there". We have turkey, deer and elk as a shtf food supply here, if needed, but don't need to shoot them unless needed.

To repel such visitors, take a two gallon garden sprayer, add 1qt of strong hot sauce, two cups of veggie oil,and fill the rest of the way with hot water, and mix well. Now spray a 4'ft wide path on the property line,or around whatever you you want to keep the woodland visitors out of.With bears sprinkle some red pepper where you you've sprayed, just for GP.I call this"Redneck invisable fencing".Though not 100% effective, this will keep most woodland creatures out,and help keep your dogs/cats in.I have been using this method to keep the bears/dogs out of the trash cans for awhile now,and it works about 90% of the time.Matt

That may work on your local Black Bears, but would be next to useless on our local Coastal Brownies. They would think it is "Seasoning" Fortunately for us, there isn't enough food, for a Brownie to live here. So, any that come around are just passing thru, and will be gone in a day or two, unless there are salmon in the creeks, and then they will be gone in a week or two. the fellow in the picture has been awake for about two weeks, and is hang'en out till the Dandelions are up and available for munching. Once he start eating those he will get "STUPID" for a while. Ever seen a Drunk Bear? They are fun to watch. They also are easy to hunt. We just setup a Lawn Chair, cooler, and sunshade, about 3Pm, and wait for him to mossy on out to the Airstrip, about dusk. You just whistle, and since he has VERY Poor eyesight, he will stand up, to figure out what you are, and then pop him from less than 200 yds. Spring Bear is the BEST Bear to eat, around this neighborhood. ....... YMMV....

Though I'm a Florida native,I lived in South Central Alaska as a working tourist for over 4yrs.Most of it was mainly primative camping,as far from other humans as I could manage.I've lived around blackies, and both brownies, and grizz. My redneck invisable fence, worked well for keeping most the critters away, except for the moose that came through the camps.Matt

The layout of the town mostly. Where you were in relation to Juneau by air and water. How close to open ocean etc etc. Pretty damn remote if you ask me. lol
