Ok, has anyone else had this happen.

Go into gas station. Ask for 125.00 of fuel (31 gallons). Attendant says. Sorry I can only authorize 100.00. WTF? [loco]Dude I'm paying cash.

I ask, OK can i do 100 and then come back in for 25.00 more?

answer. No. A customer is only allowed 100.00 of fuel.

Fine, I get a hundred here. then drive next door and fill up my 6 gallon gas can at then next station.

Something seems squirrelly. This was a BP station.

Anyone else had a similar issue or have i got a effed up station rule. I forgot to ask the neighboring station if they had that rule. I'll do that on Tuesday.

I'm not sure why, but it was a common occurrence when I drove my moving truck across the country this past month. Restricted when paying be debit / CC. I can't say for cash. It sucked because I was less the 26K lbs and would have to beg to go through the trucker side. Limited to $100 on one side and commercial only on the other... go figure.

??? I drive truck and see small box trucks and even pick up trucks in the side that I use all the time.

My experience was different. I stopped trying after a couple times and just started using the other side or the RV fill up. The couple times I drove through the truck side, I needed a truck number to begin CC purchase and pump. After running inside, getting a hard time for using the 26K+ side, I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. I filled up early once and then just kept it full at every rest stop we stopped at.

If I owned a diesel pickup, I don't think I would go through that hassle on a weekly basis... sheesh.

To add to the OP, I don't know if the CC / debit purchase restrictions are based on credit protection or if it is rationing. Maybe someone with an inside on gas stations can provide more input. It could just be individual station or chain policies as well. I don't recall *every station having the same issue. My little jeep doesn't use enough to know if there is a limit around here.

Well they are not rationing to tractor trailers I typically buy 80-100 gal/day

If they rationed you guys, the grocery stores would be empty

I think personal transportation would be rationed to extinction before trucking. Afterall, we are one of the few countries with 2-3+ cars / household. My family is down to one auto and have one additional bicycle and 2x road tires / rims on the near future list. A motorcycle seems to be increasing in possibility. I already purchased my wife a trailer / child carrier for the bike. She's quite pumped about biking v. driving :)

ETA: I have no idea if rationing is going on, but rising fuel prices are the reasons for my family's change. A decrease in dependency also influences the decision. Anyone know why the stations are restricting purchases? Is it a company, industry, or gov't deal? Is is simply "we don't carry over $100" b.s. station policy?

OK, I got pissed off and called the station owner. Yep, he was pissed that I was calling him late on a Sunday Night.

He stated that it is a store policy to prevent losses from drive offs. I mentioned that i wasn't asking cashier to turn pump on and let me fill up and then pay. I was attempting to prepay 125.00 because I knew how much i was going to need.

He stated that it was their policy but it may change in the future, Especially since the summer season was coming up. Whatever.

They don't offer diesel and I never see the lawn contractors going their to fill up their lawn equipment, I think I know why now.

That makes sense now. That's probably the case elsewhere as well. I bet as the gas prices rise, drive offs increase and this sort of thing will become more common. I really can't blame them. It still sucks that they wouldn't allow the pre-pay.

My fave station has a 50 frn limit unless prepaid with cash or credit card. With the rash of counterfeit 50s and 100s in this area lately, I expect cash over 50 won't work much longer around here.

If prices keep going up like they are, and since gas stations are obviously run by fascist morons, you might be able to get 2 gallons before tripping the cut off of $100.00 because it never crosses their simple chimpanzee-like minds that $100.00 only equals about 25 gallons today (if you are fortunate).

If it were me, I would remind the station manager that they should adjust their policy to suit an increase in taxation and inflation.

Heck, I could have bought about 125 gallons of gas with $100.00 15 years ago.

The "drive off prevention" thing just doesn't wash anymore. Using cash here, you MUST pre-pay and the pump stops at what you've paid for. Using CC, you've already given the machine your bonafides, so it'll charge you regardless. Only one station so far has shown a limitation - $50. It now takes about $65 to fill the van from the 'empty' light, so I was miffed! I like to top off in one swell foop.
Gas prices locally have dropped thirty cents a gallon in one week - supposedly because of lowered demand as people throttled back on driving and buying gas - I don't know if that's true. Usually they'd bump it UP just before a major holiday, after folks have already set their travel plans in stone.

I agree, but if they started rationing me then there wouldn't be much of a reason to be in the truck, because if that truck isn't moving I'm not making any money. If I'm not making money then I need to be at home, doing things I enjoy. If Obama changes the hours of service like they are talking about they won't have to ration fuel to tractor trailers because they will have a hard time finding anyone to drive. If anyone continues to drive the country will be on extreme rations of everything within 2 weeks. If I'm only going to make McD's wages then I myswell get a job at McD's and be home with my family.

What happened with the Mexican trucks the goverment was going to be letting in from the south? Sorry i cant remember which part of the fair trade deals that came from. It was blocked for the longest time even by the unions but last i read it was okayed or am i not remembering that correctly? I am surprised the wages of truck drivers haven’t already started to crash like every one elses.

On a more personal note, I still have my job (so far, can change any quarter) but we physically ( the company moved) moved last year. I went from driving a couple blocks to driving the interstate every work day. The gas prices are killing my budget. top that with great reviews and no raises.
I am really grateful to be employees but everything is getting so much more expensive.

As far as I know Obumer has oked them to come in. I really haven't noticed that many of them though. As far as wages go they have been pretty steady, it's freight that will kill you. You can get paid 1.00/mile but if the company only gives you 400 miles in a week you still only made $400 that week. I have talked to others that make more per mile than I do but they don't get the miles I do so it pretty much equals out. I hate just sitting around at a truck stop. I have told my boss multible times that if I'm siting I better be at the house, and for the most part she makes sure that happens. But I have seen freight slowing down the last few weeks so our recovery that they keep telling us about isn't going as well as they would have you believe.
