Halffast Publishing, the company that brought you Lights Out, is working on a collection of survival fiction short stories as one of its projects. We want to invite you to submit works to be considered for inclusion in this work. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2012. However, any story submitted by October 31, 2011, will receive a constructive review by one of our staff. Please submit your works to Submissions@HalffastPublishing.com . Feel free to post this anywhere you think there might be interest.
    Thank you.

    I'd be interested.

Question: what are the rules? How long does it have to be? What format? Etc.

There are no rules. No minimum length and just not so long it can't be called a short story. We would prefer it to be in Word, but as long as we can open it, that's fine.

    Thanks for your interest.

Question: are we allowed to post the story here or elsewhere for critical comments?

    Thanks

Anywhere on SM is appropriate, as you are doing in the reading room. I think David intends for completed works to be submitted. (Further deponent sayeth otherwise, a flag to David via PM when the tale is told might be OK.) Gotta say, it's easier to read and see pitfalls if the work is fini.

    Chris,

Yes, you may post the story online to get feedback. If we select the story, we will ask you to remove the online versions, though. I would also warn you that once something is on the net, it is almost impossible to get it off. You might want to think about not posting the whole thing, at least not at one time. I will say that I am most comfortable with it being posted here at SM, as you'll get the best advice from the members and I know that Melbo and crew will respect your copyright.

So, perhaps just post the first chapter or two for member review, is that the idea?

Just checking, I am half way through a pretty decent story, but quite unlike the normal survival fiction I find online ;)

It's up to you if you want to post any of it. My only caution is in posting the whole thing.

    Unusual is good!

Not necessarily, but it does have to tie in somehow with the overall theme of the book. If you want to send me some to look at, I can give you my opinion. Thanks.

Thanks....but, is there a market for SHTF from a fat old broads' point of view? That's the proverbial $$ question ;)

You'll never know what sells until it's in the market.
