    hey everyone

i'm looking to get a new gun for rabbit/bird/other small game. i was thinking .410-20 gauge, but if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. i use an old pump .22 for squirrels, but i'm in need for some variety.

Good God! Here we go again. Go buy a Remington 870 express in 20 gauge. You can get one for as cheap as $200 or so on gunbroker and have it delivered to a FFL holder in your area. Shotgunnews.com on their home page has a link to FFL holders who will receive for a low fee in your area.

I am not new here. Don't be fooled by the low number of posts. All gun questions draw a ton of replies. I have edited my prior post here that was written in jest to lighten that particular situation. I am absolutely totally biased for the Remington 870 shotgun above all others. The reasons are legion. I shoot a 12 gauge 870 and have 3 barrels for it. I bought my first 870 in 1969. It was my go to gun. I have shot many other brands. The 3rd 870 I bought was a 20 gauge youth model bought for the then female of the household. She is no longer around, but I still have that shotgun. Even with the shorter stock I have found it easy to use, and it is so much lighter I often go to it instead of grapping the 12. Price wise for a pump 12 or 20 gauge, only the Mossberg comes close in price. Others cost a good bit more. The 870 is lighter and smoother in action, thus faster to me than the Mossberg. It is a reliable good value gun! Sorry about the .416 Rigby joke that was misunderstood. I think an 870 in 20 gauge will suit you however. [boozingbuddies]I will not post further on this thread, I have stated clearly my 2 cents worth. Buying guns is always a very personal thing anyway.

Drat, i was gonna suggest any high speed air rifle. .177 or .22.
But ya can't go wrong with a scatter gun. 20 gauge is a good choice, change the ammo and you can hunt something different. All my deer have been shot with a 20 gauge single shot. Venison nom nom nom. [drooling]

Go the .410 and experiment with a heap of different solid and shot rounds. I do personally like and recommend this little shotty.

I started out with a savage .410/.22 over and under, Great gun. But there are so many choices these days. The modern day air rifles are fantastic for rabbit or squirrel either one; heck they even work for grouse and quail, dove, and if your quick enough
pheasant. the .410 to me would be the best shotgun load for your quarry. So really the choice is up to you for your choice of gun to do this. Now as for our coy newbie in here whom says he uses his and i quote" Second-hand 416 rigby" to shoot rabbits.
dude your showing an attitude, you are new here, it would serve you well to not to get smart alleky right now. Get to know poeople first, and try to show a little respect to those whom hav e been here longer.

Previous post here deleted by poster. I also favor the Remington 870. YMMV. As said above, buying firearms is a personal thing. I don't think you can go wrong with a 20 gauge Remington 870 pump.

Good Lord. Another attack on a poster! It was suppost to be a joke for Heaven's sake! Even if it was just attitude (yeah, I know a few who might try that for that matter, so who knows?) it was nothing to get bent about! If the mods here think he was out of line, report the post and let them decide.

I was going to recommend the Savage 24 .22/20, rifle barrel for sitting, shotgun for running. There are many excellent air rifles out there, also air shotguns, and even big bore air rifles (.45 and up) if you want. The Rem 870 Wingmaster/Express is a great gun too.

I know, why don't we keep the posts about what the thread is about and PM others if we think (I guess some don't, think that is) there is a problem? That would make things more civil here anyway.

I vote for the 20 gauge.. ammo is more plentiful, easier to reload and cheaper to stock... 2 boxes 20 gauge to one box .410...

I rabbit hunt with beagles. My favorite gun is a youth model 20 gauge. Light to carry and short enough to move around for shots in heavy timber. Just my opinion.

slingshot, no bang for someone to hear
ammo is free, takes a lot more practice than a gun
    and is never boring
besides, there is no govt push trying to take slingshots away

Ill also say the 20 gauge 870 express. I have one and its a great shotgun. I have both the short barrel for home defense and the 28 inch full choke for birds and other hunting application. I use a .22 for rabbits. I hate shot in the meat. KF
