Well it has finally happened... My daughter has gotten engaged... all spare $$ has dried up... the boy in question lives in a no carry with out grief area (Boston) and seems to really love her...

I guess preps get sidelined for the near future.... any suggestions? I thought all of my basics are covered for 12+ months but they don't include rehersal halls, bands, and peite fores for a hundred, wedding gowns, etc... If it was just the rehersal dinner we could have rotated rice, beans, and Mac and cheese... you know newley wed food.... [dunno]

    I guess all i can do is...

I have two daughters and they have now been married for 15 and 17 years ,we di the food for both ourselves and saved a lot. It will still set you back a few years .
I hope you get as lucky as we have been with the new SIL ,I couldn't have done better if I had picked them . LOL

The SIL seems like a good sort... they have a farm in western Mass... he works for a major software company as a project manager... she is starting work on her Ph.D. so no worries there... looks like the wedding will be out of state so i won't have everything that i have here to work with....

I told my older daughter that it's against my principles of prudent living to spend too much money on an extravagant wedding. I proved it to her by showing her my wedding which was held in front of 27 people in the front yard of my property, We exchanged silver wedding bands and ate some local BBQ and drank beer and cocktails from the card table bar that my brother worked for us.

I'll hand her some cash and tell her that anything she doesn't spend she gets to keep. Just like my parents did for us. I don't feel obligated to create her a fantasy based on the amount of cash spent when I have such fond and vivid memories of my wedding which cost less than $2000 11 years ago.

Have a country wedding. It's cheaper to landscape your back yard.

LOL, your name is most appropriate. [applaud]
I lived in Massachusetts for several years. It is a very beautiful state, and I actually enjoyed most of the people, too. For a northern state (cold, therefore the people are expected to be withdrawn and not open) there can be a lot of love and kindness shown. The Boston area is a tough scene, especially for those who grow up there -but one thing they do have is a strong sense of community in the outlaying areas, albeit slightly left-leaning and sometimes controversial. There are annual food drives and routine fund raisers, and the people are remarkably open, surprisingly..at least from my own finding. As a younger man, I suppose the state is a fine area to sew some oats and have a little fun; yet, I must admit it is not very gun-friendly and focused on the foundations of the traditional republic. We can blame the many decades of left wing control and the highly proliferated police force for this if we choose, but that may only be a part of it. Out west of the Worcester area it is very nice still, and the borg collective have not yet sucked the minds of the people dry entirely. There is fight in them yet.

Yep getting rid of daughters, can be an expensive Proposition, alright.... Momma and I told ours,
    1. We only pay for the first one.
    2. We keep the expenses below $2KUS Total.
    3. If they elope, they can Keep the whole $2KUS.
    4. Morman (LDS) Preachers don't cost anything, and neither does the use of the building.
5 My sisters put on the Receptions, and did the flowers, for both my daughters. Both keep within the $2KUS budget, with money left over.
Now when my son got married, we just had to show up, and I did a dinner with the New In-Laws, a few days before. They blew a pile. First, and only daughter.... and the Mother was repressed in a previous life..... Oh Well.... TMMdV (Their Milage did Vary) .....

Could be worse. My only daughter was raised a tomboy with an SKS for her 14th birthday. She ran track and could outswim, run, climb most any boy. But then she met this orange/green/yellow headed tree hugging liberal demoncrap voting nerd of a jerk and fell in love with him--talk about opposites attracting. Now they live in kalifornicate but about three years ago they both got their concealed, started taking martial arts classes, and spend lots of time at the range. They even apologized for voting for nobammy. There is hope.

Well Bro...my two cents. Your Tacos for the rehearsal dinner and your dirty rice for the reception...Pool party at your house to follow immediately afterwards (convince them to have the wedding at the farm) Just sayin...BTW, I'll throw in 50 lbs of rice as a wedding gift...:D

I sent my 3 off to a JP and paid only $30-$35 each! Not that I'm a cheap #^%@(*&^ or anyhting like that....But they soon discovered why I did that...Their divorces were on them and that was expensive!
( I had a "few" practice runs myself!)
The most I ever spent was $300....the last was $40 ( 22-23 years ago)
I'm still learning! ( tough to teach and old dog new tricks they tell me)

Cephas, they have lived near Phoenix the last several years but they finally made it to one of our gatherings and met some prepared folks. I think he started "seeing the light" and has been a different husband since. Told him when they married that it took a worthless human (man) that could not defend his family. He is still a multi colored hair nerd but is making a great living and now has the determination to be a "man" instead of a wimp. Getting right proud of the gent--now to work on that hair style--LOL.
