    I can't figure out who, is dumber, the Guys in Black, or the Door, itself. If those Yahoos had any BRAINS at all, they would have stuck the PryBar in the 2 inch Crack they caused to open with each Blow to the top of the door at minute 2.00, and then worked it down closer to the Bar and Locks, as the pounded away. If they were really smart, they would have used Energetic Materials, after minute 3.0, and had the thing off the hinges by minute 5.0. It is amazing what can be done with the appropriate Energetics, and some Shaped Charges, specifically targeted on the Hinges, and Bolts. It was pretty obvious, this was the Cro-Magnon Knuckle Dragger Bunch, not the ones with any Brains. Breaching Doors is really Childs Play, with Energetics. Then again, a good Diamond Cutting Blade on one of those Honda powered Concrete Saws, would have made dust of that Steel Door, in much less time, as well. Getting a BIGGER Hammer isn't necessarily the correct answer to this problem. Neither is getting Bigger Guys in Black. They never did show them Getting the door Open... I can hear it now, when the guys got home that Nite. "Tough day at work, Honey?" "Yea, we spent all afternoon breaking down a Steel Door." "Oh, That is to bad, Dear, come over and have a beer, while I rub your back and neck.".... What a Hoot...... ..... YMMV.....

    We have 12ga breacher rounds for our 870's could have popped the hinges or the locks. They work on steel doors.

    I have to say that a knock and serve warrant like that is much more polite than the typical dynamic entry used by most cop-shops. If they had just bothered to take their Halloween masks off, I probably would have just opened the door and invited them in.

    Anyone notice the cops were not at the ready after they smashed the door for 5+ mins. They were probably exhausted from swinging the mall. If that door magically opened and the guy on the other side was halfway competent it would have been over for them.

    I am getting ready to build a new door for my house as the current door anyone with a 2" stone could break through. I have built several doors while working in a wood shop and came up with a designed simulate to this one pictured. However the door will be 3" thick rock maple with plate steel between the inside and outside panels (the reason for separate inside and outside panels is simple, warm are and cold air make the panels behave differently if it's a solid panel the panel will be stressed).

    It isn't necessarily the construction of the Door itself, that is the issue here. It is ALSO the Hinges, Locking System, and Door Frame to Wall integration and Strength. Hinges are really the weak link, that rarely gets the same attention, on installation, as the Locking System. Take out the Hinges, and the door falls in under its own weight. What good will all the Steel in the door do, if the Frame isn't well connected, and integrated, into the Wall System. The other thing is, many times it is easier to go thru the wall, just beside the door, rather than the door itself. A much better setup, is to keep the outsiders AWAY from the door itself, by having a Firing Port in the door, or have the entrance covered by available Firing Ports. Never let them get up next to the door, itself.

    Couldn't agree more. Both my front and back doors will be anchored into 2" hard maple jams. The locking system will be a 4 way cam. Hinges i haven't figured out yet but i am thinking 1 long piano hinge. That way if anyone tried to blow them off with a door buster they would have to do the entire door. Both sides of my doors are getting 4" brick veneer. When i'm awake i can defend my house. I'm worried about when i'm asleep. I don't want to wake up with to a shadowy figure over my bed.

    Whoever constructed the setup in the video deserves props. It goes to prove given enough time anyone can get in. You need to put that time buffer between you and them.

    I believe that most departments breaching rounds are effective up to 16 gauge (1.5 mm) security doors. Not a match for enhanced (either factory or custom up modded doors)

    I believe that enhanced class 3 doors are 3mm and class 4 is 4.5mm.

    Even the heavy 12 gauge breach rounds just sand blast the paint off on those doors.

    Also doesn't help much if the door is installed on deep recessed frame with open outward configuration.

    Short of using Highly energetic portal breach charges, chain saw or maybe a hurst tool. Those doors are pretty much going to stay shut.

    What would have been better would have been if the perp welded the door shut and used another portal for entry/exit and had a built a cage just inside the door.

    They don't ever want to do that to my door, it will explode outward.

    I've been involved in official ballistics and forced entry testing at one point in my varied career- and the tools that were the most effective were a sharp mind and a set of wedges. Once the guys on the forced entry team could spot a weakness, the wedges were inserted and sledgehammered home. Most doors of highly reputable manufacture didn't make it through the test the first time and had to be redesigned.

    I like the piano hinge idea. As long as it is secured well enough to the door and the frame, a lot of effort has to be exhausted to breech.

    Nowadays, things like battery powered side grinders with a cutting wheel is all you would need to gain access to much of anything. Of course, the sound of them being used is the trade-off. Case in point was a roll-up storefront grate. The particular test had to encompass hand tools only, and the gate passed by the entry team running out of time before a hole a certain size could be opened up. After the test, a sample of the grate had to be taken, and in 30 seconds, a sizeable piece was cut out with a battery powered side grinder and a sawzall from a previously unmolested spot. So much for that.

    Back in the day, I was involved in the design of Breaching Shaped Charges for hardened Steel Doors and Walls. The big issue was how to estimate the amount of Powder to use in any Specific situation. Turned out that was more Art, than Science. Usually the Trainees would under-load the shots, until they got a feel for the Energetics in use. After that, they tended to Over-Load the charges and turn the Door Casing into matchstickes, along with half the wall. One ExMilitary Guy, got pretty good at the guesstimation, and was pretty impressive, in that he was just dropping the doors, with only slight damage to the rest of the structure. He was one of the few that could make the system work, correctly. I do not see much of that technology in use today. I have not been in that Biz, in decades, so I really do not know the state of the Art these days, however it does work if you have the right guy doing the deed.
