Well, we are haveing an overcast day, and just went out to check what is happening with my solar. I am getting 66 amps incoming at this moment. It is just like the cloud effect, and it sure is nice. Sometimes, solar will really surprise you with what it can do. Even a small system like mine.

What do you power with your 1500 watts? How many panels do you have and how much $$$s invested. Going to have to start slowly as money is very tight. Thanks for any info.

Morning all . I run my entire house with my little system. Cost ? Let see, I bought my solar panels the first few years for about $400.00 ea which were Kyrocera 85 watts ea, then last year the 4 sharp for about the same price ea, and also the 4 used kyrocera's 125's used for about $225.00 ea. I also have two amorphous uni-solar (I think) 64's for $300.00 for the pair. Store going out of business. I bought my batteries for about $50.00 about 16 years ago, which my newest ones are now about $125.00 ea. ( 18 ) total. My Trace 2512 pure sine wave inverter, re furbished last winter for $625.00. Of course there are lots more little nickle and dime expenses like the wiring , battery cables etc. I also run 4 trace c-60 charge controllers which with the led covers are close to $300.00 ea. Two of them are for my wind generator..

Anyone that wants to see my "on the cheap" 1500 watt system, yesterday, I was finally able to get pic's up. Not the best, but you will get an idea of what it looks like. No 'pro' installation for sure. But it sure works. Keep in mind that I actually have 3 back up generators also, Again, on the cheap as I try and find good used running units. I found my Kolher 7k twin out of a motor home, that had been sitting for about 20 years for $200.00. It took another $160.. to have a guy clean and tune it up and it has worked perfect ever since. When I got it last year, the gennie guy took it apart and said it looked to have no more the a couple of hundred hours on it total. Fantastic deal.

Thanks Nadja, money has been a problem the last two yrs but my intention is to go solar asap. Figure it will pay for itself between 3 1/2 and 4 years. A bud has about 8K of panels and put in a Propane backup/boost genny in to insure his AC works fine. He is nearing retirement and getting soft like the rest of us--lol. He has had a small diesel back up for years. He only has about 10-12 batteries. Possibility I can get some fork lift batteries(@300# each). Ever seen anyone use them or large commercial batteries? Thanks, 06

I loaned a close neighbor, a used 32 Vdc Traction Battery, (forklift) to run his outfit, and it worked just spiffy. We split the bank into two units. One was 24 Vdc for his OutBack Inverter/charger and the other was 12 Vdc that ran all his cabins small electronics, and was the Starting Battery for his 4Kw Lister/Kohler Backup Genset. When he moved last spring, he left the battery bank for another neighbor to use. We are waiting for his new Outback setup to arrive.... .... YMMV...

Have they been holding up for him ? And, is their a lot of maint. issues with them like with normal deep cycle batteries ?

Took this two days ago at 5 pm. Still making some watts and a few amps. The batteries were fully charged.

What I discoverd over the past 2 years was that my "el-cheapo" amorphous panels ( harbor freight) work ok, not anything to brag on...But when it's overcast and even raining they seem to work better than the blue silicon types? Not sure why that is. I prefer the silicon type over the amorphous anyday, but I just thought that the difference was a bit odd.

Yeah, I stumbled across a site that tells how much of a scam this DIY Solar Site is. People suck. :(
