VAVOOM! I sure don't remember seeing that scene on the Saturday Morning TV show! Hehehe.... I kept waiting for the croc to appear to menace her......
I like the one where Tarzan is swinging on the vine and slams into the tree. Then he slides down slowly..... oh wait...that was a cartoon..never mind.
i dont remember ever seeing that scene either and i watched tarzan religiously of course if it had been in there, mom would never have let me see it...lol i miss the old tarzan movies, need to look up copies of them
My favorite scene was when ol' Johnny was riding that rhino a d stabbing it at the same time. Rode it right into the ground.
That scene was actually filmed three times; nude, topless, and with the jane suit...I video taped this years ago (VHS) and still watch it once in a while...what a babe! and they got away with this in the 40s. For an infamous swimming scene in this pre-code film, alternate footage was shot of Jane in various stages of dress, ranging from totally nude to fully covered. According to film historian Rudy Behlmer: "From all evidence, three versions of the sequence eventually went out to separate territories during the film's initial release. One with Jane clothed in her jungle loin cloth outfit, one with her topless, and one with her in the nude."[1] Maureen O'Sullivan did not play the naked Jane in the alternate footage; she was doubled by Olympic swimmer Josephine McKim, who competed in the 1928 games with Johnny Weissmuller. A version with alternate footage with Jane swimming nude or topless was restored in 1986 by Turner Entertainment for its video release. Like other Tarzan/Weissmuller films, the elephants were Indian and not African. Large ears and tusks were fitted onto the animals in an attempt to make them look authentic. Tarzan rides a rhinoceros in one scene - a first for film. The rhino, Mary, was imported from the Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg, Germany. Weismuller did the scene himself, sustaining only minor scrapes to sensitive places from Mary's rough hide.[2]
i would love a copy of that whole film Johnny Weissmuller has always been my fav actor and tarzan my set of movies
Those jungle and water scenes were filmed near here at Wakulla Springs. That water is COLD!! The lodge has a bunch of pics of Johnny abd crew doing the Tarzan scenes. I still remember him 'fighting the lion', using what looked even to my eight year old eyes like a poor bedraggled stuffed toy that had been dragged behind a bus on the studio backlot......
Yep, had it been here, it woulda been a scandal! The Olde South just wasn't ready in the forties for that stuff......
Tarzan has been my hero for many years.A distant cousin,Glenn Morris, won the 1936 decathlon in Nazi Germany and supposedly made a big impression on Hitler. He played Tarzan in one film,Tarzan's Revenge.Critics panned it unmercifully, but Tarzan isn't supposed to be heavy literature.Johnny Weismuller was the ultimate Tarzan in my opinion.I haven't seen the early early Tarzan ,would like to.
i think most of the worlds holds those 2 names synonymous tarzan-weismuller i have never heard anyone say otherwise (and will thump anyone that does...lol)
Yep, nobody since Johnny W. has done the part justice. That series in the 70's was laughable...... though that actor did do far better later in a campy version of Doc Savage.
Thanks Sea, watching that video brought back many good memories of my childhood watching Johnny W. as Tarzan on Saturday afternoons.
