My boy got two to add to our weapons cache. They were $199 through the end of the month!
Now he is wanting to get parts and add this and that. Our others are plain Jane stock ones so now, We NEED to have something different...LOL He will call me after he cleans them and we will go from there! But what a deal. Go out and get some!!!!

My SKS is a great little rifle; only mod I did was have the trigger reworked at Kivaari's. It wasn't very expensive 4 or 5 years ago. The SKS has notoriously bad "out-of-the-box" trigger.

The other thing I'd like to add is the Tech-Sights rear sight, but I've gotta spend on other things right now.

Thanks for the link to Cabela's special.

Problem is, my 2 "Yugo's" dont have the chromed barrels...firing steel jacketed ammo thru them will wear them out in no time....If I ONLY use copper plated ammo, then everything is ok.

Glad I got mine back when they were $159. I really like the M59/66 - very accurate when using good commercial or handload ammo. Becomes a shotgun with Wolf......
Totally different feel from my Chinese military Factory /26\ SKS. The Yugo is heavy - feels like a RIFLE, while the Chinese is a lighter CARBINE.
Both are accurate (with good ammo) and totally reliable.

So what ammo brand do you shoot or like? We just keep ours clean and reload lead cast bullets. I have shot whatever and now I try to be more careful only have a few spare barrels. They might need to last until Y3K!

Awesome. I went to find some in Postfalls and they were out quick :( I know where they are 300-400, but 199 is a sweet price!

Used to be ( long long ago here...) $79.00 each, wrapped in waxy/oily paper and swimming in cosmoline! I quits shooting any and all Russian ammo as I was told what it would do to the barrels...and being careful, I took a magnet to all my ammo...YIKES!
I sold it all and bought S&B's ammo! Copper ( not copper washed/plated steel jacketed ammo) and their cases are RELOADABLE brass!

The Russian ammo has copper jackets with a soft steel CORE. Not a problem. That's what your magnet is picking up.
Even 'steel' jacketed isn't really a problem - it's a much softer steel than rifle barrels, but I haven't come across steel-jacketed 7.62X39.
Cleaning after using ANY surplus ammo is SOP. Even when they claim 'non-corrosive' I clean anyways. As far as I have determined, the only truly noncorrosive surplus is Swiss GP-11 ammo for our K31 Carbines.

    Question:
There are 2 models of the YUGO SKS...1 has the regular sights, and 1 version has the night sights. We have 1 of each, but where can you find the replacement for those night sights? No one seems to kknow what they are or if they are a liquid chemical ( looks like it) or similar to tridium?
They appear to be very tiny glass vials!

The earlier night sights were a luminous paint - mine has this type. The later type was tritium, that by now is long past it's useful lifetime.
I have read of these being replaced with new tritium vials, but it'd be more expensive than it's worth, I think.

You forgot the even earlier Yugo SKS - the Model 59 with no grenade launcher or night sights. My buddy has one of them and the later M59/66 with G/L.
