Anyone ever heard of using a popbottle as a suppressor in a. 22 I've heard if you put it over tge end of your barrel it quiets it down quite q bit. Id try it but ain't got ni pop bottles.

if you get caught it and someone was having a bad day you could get charged with manufacturing a suppressor. I don;t think it would work anyways unless your Mark Walberg. Get your guns threaded and but material for shop projects. When shtf then you can tinker. Until then either dream about it or pay for a tax stamp.

Due to federal statutes I will only state this. I have seen with my own eyes a rig that worked very well. It was a ruger bull barrel pistol with a B-Square receiver clamp on high scope mount that allows use of regular sights under. This was used to raise the aimpoint red dot scope above the pop bottle silencer. One screw removes the front sight. You must cut one slit about 3/4 inch long from the open end of the bottle to allow it to slip snugly on the end of the .920 barrel (fluted or slab sided barrels will not work). a couple of wraps of black electrical tape ensures the improvised silencer does not blow off. Some people fill the 12 to 16 ounce plastic pop bottle with cotton balls as well. Surprizingly these do not seem to catch fire even with multiple rapid shots. I didn't notice much difference between bottles without cotton balls and those with. To prove how effective these improvised silencers were, they were demonstrated in a trailer park with trailers within 30 feet of each other. At 2am the owner of the pistol stepped out on his porch and emptied 10 rounds into the flowerbed, changed magazines and did it again, and once more. The action of the semi auto cycling made more noise than the firing did. I was impressed. No one woke up in the adjacent trailer, or any others as far as I could tell. This weapon/combo was used by a gator poached in SC. in the 1980s with great success. I miss the gator meat. The pistol owner was my neighbor. He is now dead, so the feds can dig him up to either prosecute him or kiss his behind. Don't discount pop bottle silencers for use on .22 rimfire rifles or pistols. I have seen them work quite well. Tape wrap can be used on non bull barrel weapons also to adapt this to any .22 rimfire with the front sight removed.

they work okay... as long as you use sub sonic ammo... I've tried it and after a couple, three, shots the tape gives and they blow of the end and you need another bottle... more a gimmick...like making a tennis ball canon... fun to try but not that practical

    I do not lie!

I have serious doubts that 2 or 3 well placed CB longs out of my 22 rifle would kill a 10 foot gator or that one would drop a fat doe with a head shot. I would have greater confidence in a full house 40 or 45 grain 22 long rifle lead pill. They have proven adequate on the gators, that I know for a fact. YMMV
    .
I fully agree that CB longs are more than adequate for romantic cats raising enough noise to raise the dead at 3 am. I would hesitate to use them on anything over 20 pounds. Also they are very quiet without the improvised silencer.

There were several suppressor makers making a threaded adapter that had the same threads as a standard pop bottle. I believe they ran into legal problems with the classification of the bottle as a "consumable" piece (like the older style baffles and rubber wipes) and the adapter as the serial numbered "suppressor". I guess it was too much of a stretch for the ATF to approve.

There may be a way around it, as I've seen the adapters (pictures) at certain manufacturer's websites. I guess there is not a big enough market (if you can even call the legal, class II suppressor market big) for these items.

Personally, I think they would be a hoot. Yeah, the bottle wears out quickly, (you can use some water to help it last a little longer and a little quieter as long as you don't tilt the gun too much) but where wouldn't you be able to get another bottle? They are practically laying around everywhere. It would be a very discreet device.

In the picture I seen, they were made of aluminum and anodized to any color imaginable- plain silver, orange, green, purple, even pink. If someone would see it laying on a table by itself, it would look like a bottle cap drink tube adapter- not a suppressor.

If I get a little time in the next few days, I'll look around some of the manufacturer's websites and try to find you guys a picture. Maybe talk to someone and see if they are legal for class II purchase.

Sounds like a great game of: "Where's Waldo????"! [aiw]

Statute of limitations has long ago run out.

Should anyone want to sic the Game Management types, or SPCA on me, or be reading this, .... I left SC in 1988. Haven't ate any poached gator since then. I am pretty sure the Statute of limitations has run out. Down here in sunny florida you can openly buy legally sold gator meat at a somewhat inflated price for a piece of common lizard meat. My bull barrelled KP 512 ruger was stolen from my house and reported to the local sheriffs office in 1999. The knowledge of all that occurred prior to 1999 remains firmly ingrained for future reference in my tiny pea brain. That is still legal I think! ...?

I have used the 'primer-only' Colibri load on a late-night home-invading Possum - put the rifle barrel nearly on his nose and pulled the trigger....
Doesn't get any more 'point blank' than that! Right 'tween the eyes.......
He shook it off and ran for the hole in the trailer floor (where the drier hose went down. I did find him dead under the trailer a few days later (pheewww...) but it was NOT a 'quick kill'. Them critters have thick noggins...... [aiw]
I did not want to wake the neighbors with a full-power gunshot at Zero-Dark-Thirty,

Appearently, the BATF allows their manufacture on a form 1 or form 4. None of the manufacturers said they produced them, but several said they would make me one, for the sum of $35.00... Plus the $200 stamp tax. Pretty cheap suppressor, if you ask me.

I'm sure it will cover up the sights on just about anything you attach the adapter to. If I had one, I would have to try different sized bottles depending on what caliber I was using. You might get away with a smaller (in compairison to a 2 liter bottle) water bottle party full of wire pulling lubricant for or stuffed with fiberglass insulation, for .22lr.

If you don't like what you did with the previous bottle, do something different on the next.

As a kid growing up barefooted on a dirt road farm I used plastic bottles on many a squirrel. Finally got hold of a one foot piece of copper tubing, drilled it full of holes(evenly), wrapped it in insulation, slid a piece of conduit over it, and slid it over the barrel. Worked like a charm and killed many a crow and squirrel with it.

We had a guy locally - a Class II Manufacturer, purely legit - doing Ruger pistol and rifle mods for sound suppression. His worked very well! But it wasn't a can - he used the barrel as an integral part, drilled and formed as part of the suppressor system. Not cheap either! Nice thing is, it kept the overall length shorter and handier than hanging a big piece of pipe on the muzzle!

Gee, I wonder, think that pop bottle would work on a .270? Or how about my 12 gauge Mossberg's?
    No...I doubt it.
Anway,...AWC here takes the barrels off the Rugers they "suppress" and put their own on, that have been Modified ( the whole barrel!) Being in their place, (in New River Arizona), I was privy to see and hear one being tested. I heard the bolt slamming forward, the brass hitting the floor and the bullets impacting downrange. No other sound, not even so much as a pop or a hiss was evident in a indoor range! That's suppressed!
Now IF you ever get the chance to drop by their place, take a look at their suppresor for the .50 cal! Now that's IMPRESSIVE!
If you want something "spectacular", take a look at their designs for the SEALS weapons!
Not only are the very very silent, they fire underwater!
If all you are looking for is a way to quiet down your .22's, then use 1 1/2 inch diameter schedule 40 pvc pipe, 2 end caps and cut out a lot of cardbaord wafers/washers, to fit, pack them inside, glue one cap on (AFTER pre-drilling the center/bore hole) use a rubber stopper in the second cap ( under size drilled) to fit onto the barrel, then align it with a cleaning rod...They have been used for more than 100 rounds of standard .22lr (not sub sonic) ammo and they work, very well. Some prefer to leave an inch or 3/4 of an inch of clearance, where the barrel enters to allow for an expansion chamber. Some people instead of drilling the cardbaord discs, prefer to use an "X" cut, essentially making the discs into "wipes" like the OLD style. Some use pvc rings as spacers...and red rubber discs, with an "X" cut and they work ok. Not as quiet as stacked cardboard pieces though. If you are inventive, you can take a "pringles" can, and using tape, cardboard, and TP, make yourself one heck of a suppressor! I made one in half an hour for a kid here, that wanted to shoot his "ANGEL" paintball gun that was full auto.
Now that was fun! Not a sound!
(except for those danged paintballls hitting the trash dumpster!)
Now I know, they are NOTat all like bullets, but conisdering the amount of C02 that was expelled from each shot fired, it worked.
Just Watch out for shredded the hi speed TP particles!
(IF you ever choose to use ANY type of liquids in your pop bottles, I wish you GOOD LUCK!) It won't take but a drop or 2 to enter your barrel, and yeehaw!
Houston YOU have a REAL problem!

They work quite well and I doubt that any .gov agency is omnipotent enough to give a rats ass about some redneck silencing a .22 to shoot a doe with. They won because we let them intimidate us so and ARF.com adds fuel to the fire with all the .gov trolls there. There was an episode of Magnum P.I. where he used a pop-bottle suppressor to attempt to assassinate his nemesis, Col. Trang.

Steven Seagal's movie "On Deadly Ground" was a bit of a farce though...
He put a plastic soda bottle on his .45, by pulling the silde to the rear so it would fit over the barrel, then taping it in place...He aims it at a window in a door, knocks on the door, a guy comes and looks thru the window, and pop he gets it right in the old kisseroo!
Uh...ok. So a .45 will fire with the slide moved back about 3/4 of an inch huh?
    HOLLWEIRD strikes again!
But what the heck right? I mean in in one of the "aliens" movies, they shoot a shotgun underwater! I want ONE of those! AND EARPLUGS!
