I can't verify this, everything seems to point back to this article, but it has gone viral.
Obama Couldn't Wait: His New Christmas Tree Tax

nObama has decided to add a .15 cent tax to all "fresh Christmas Trees".

I don't get it?? Hopefully someone here can debunk this.

And this from a government that is actively trying to equalize all holidays and religions. So what are they going to tax for the kwaanza believers? Pagans? Jews? Any others of whatever stripe?

(Couldn't find any confirmation or denial.)

I can say for sure that it most certainly is not true at the supplier level.

The one business I still operate is 10 acres of Noble Pine and Douglas Fir Christmas trees that we ship down to California starting in a little over a week. We have processed initial orders with no notification of any such tax...and we sell more than 500 trees by a substantial margin.

They must be charging it at the distributor level then...I have received no notification of any such fee or tax on growers.

    Artificial trees...Bah!

This was lobbied for, by the Tree Growers Association, to the DoA. I always thought that CONGRESS, had to PASS on ALL TAXES, at the Federal Level....
Where is the Statutory Authority, for the DoA to impose ANY such Tax...... without a VOTE in Congress? Inquiring Minds, want to know....

Oh, and by the by, I just go out and find a nice tree, somewhere around the cabin, and cut my OWN, Christmas Tree, each year.... and then burn it in the wood stove, after New Years....

Pax, I hate to say it, but it's time to sent a message to DC.....I say we all not use a Christmas tree of any kind this year and use an untaxed Christmas pumpkin instead....seriously.....it's time to let these weenies in DC KNOW we're tired of being punked all the time.

You know that gal in CA that started the "move your bank account" thing last week ? Well this could go just as viral with a little effort. I know it would hurt growers, but damhit, at SOME point, the tea has got to go in the harbor.

Lemme see here. The grower's association wanted the tax to fund their own promotional materials. Sooo --- The tree is taxed, which (while not expected to affect retail pricing according to the grower's) will certainly be passed thru, so dot gov can fund the grower's association. It's time to boycott the trees. Maybe that grower's association will get a message faster than zero does.

Pax, I regret that this may affect you, and I really hope you aren't a member of that shallow minded operation.

All "Hoilday" trees should be taxed, and also regulated. Or mabey the government should provide the trees since everyone has then anyway. But what about the greeneis should a tree die just for some decoration, what about trees rights. OK plastic trees, nope they likley made from fosiel oil, no way. How do those snow white trees get displayed at malls, those are raciest trees, you dont see any black trees.
What about that really big tree they put up at the white house, what if someone doesnt like trees?

I'm not a member of any association...though I get mail from them now and then wanting me to change that.

I grow the trees because it's easy and people keep buying them. My years crop is usually paid for in October and ships in November on trucks hired by the customers.

I also have no dealings with the Department of Agriculture and have never found a reason to contact them. My customers buy FOB my field and (I assume) deal with any legalities with the People's Republic when they transport them down there.

I only sell just over 2K trees a year and I doubt anything could hurt sales much...and, if there is a slow year, it just means the average size is bigger the next year.

It's really not a bad gig if you have a couple of spare acres that pine will grow on. Very little work involved...especially if you sell them standing.

Becoming ever more tired of being "milked" to feed those who have not, do not, and will not work. The leaches of society have had their day in the sun if some have their way. Something has to change--and not his change either.

FGS cut the growers association some slack.....they really need the funds to promote Happy Holiday trees.....I can see that the tax free black market cigarette smugglers now have a potential sideline of selling black market tax free HH trees.....capitalism wins yet again!!! ; )
