That' PURE and unadulterated BS! Someone is going to get all the money for the fish, and personally, I call BS on them and the Government bureaucratic a-holes for ripping him and his crew off! Now, why are other companies and many in Japan allowed to NET any and all fish? BS on the NOAA people. That's NOT their claim to fame and shame anyway! "Dirtbags" is about the nicest thing I could call them! Now I may be wrong, BUT why do the fishermen have to buy the permits in the first place? Double jeopardy! It's ALL a CROCK!
Look at it this way, IF you go out and get a legal license and tag, to hunt ANY animal, be it a deer, an elk, a rabbit, or a skunk,...you PAID for the license! So you go out, get yourself a trophy sized "whatever" it might be, and then along comes the FEDS, (NO such license or tags) and confiscate it? NO way Jose! That's a crock! Someone needs to go after these CON artists and have their guts for garters! No wonder people are up in ARMS over the PTB!

You need to put the BLAME for this squarely where it belongs... On the "Greenie Idiots" that wrote the Statute, that was used to legally bust the guy. Research the Statute and SEE , just WHO lobbied for it in the first place. Greenies, Pure and Simple.... If you think this is bad, you should hear some of the Dastardly things the US Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Folks do up here in Alaska... And they are ALL Federal Offenses... THe only way to fix this is to CHANGE the Statutes, not the Enforcement Folks....

To bad the enforcement people did not learn the meanings of "spirit of the law" and "letter of the law" when going through their training. Might change their attitude before they go missing after a bear attack, if you know what I mean.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Office of Law Enforcement? Since when does the NOAA have law enforcement? are they now just another one of this counties alphabet agencies that pop up and nobody hears about until they confiscate something? Way too much government....

I think it's OK in .gov-land for a protected group to break the law against another protected group.

For example, in this case, if the captain and crew had been Muslim pirates, breaking federal law by netting the tuna would be OK as long as they did not have dolphin hostages...hey, they're just trying to make a living and for NOAA to intervene would be racist, hate-profiling.

So, a spotted owl and eat a near-extinct creek chub and that's OK. See how this works?

Any bets that soon after the local NOAA chief suddenly had a boost to his bank account? He knows where the markets are too.
